"Chennai Express" which was released on a grand scale at the worldwide box office on Eid is continuing its record breaking spree.
The rom-com starring Shah Rukh Khan and Deepika Padukone minted ?12.62 crore on the first Monday. The film had the second highest non-holiday collection on Monday after Ranbir Kapoor-Deepika starrer "Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani" (YJHD) which fetched ?13 crore on its first Monday.
"Chennai Express" shattered all previous records by other big hits and set a new benchmark at both the Indian and overseas box offices.
Adding Monday's collection, the film's domestic earnings stand at ?113.04 crore, according to trade analyst Taran Adarsh.
The breakup of the film is: ?6.75 crore on Thursday's paid previews, ?33.12 crore on the opening day, ?28.05 crore on Saturday, ?32.50 crore on Sunday and ?12.62 crore on Monday.
On the overses front, "Chennai Express" opened to a flying start. The Rohit Shetty directorial even broke most of the previous records of Shah Rukh's past hit films.
Shah Rukh has a huge fan following in international markets. The actor dominates the overseas box office chart with six films and "Chennai Express" will soon join the league.
The overseas opening weekend collection of the film is ?50.47 crore ($ 8.25 million).
The country-wise first weekend breakup of the film according to Adarsh is:
UK: ?8.78 crore ( 9, 34,118) from 126 screens
US-Canada: ?15.15 crore ($ 24, 75,000) from 196 screens
UAE-GCC: ?12.88 crore (AED 77, 30,000). It had the biggest opening ever in this circuit.
Singapore: ?2.20 crore ($ 3, 60,000). It registered the biggest opening ever for a Hindi film in the country.
Pakistan: ?1.84 crore ($ 3,00,000)
Australia: ?2.14 crore (A$ 3,85,262) from 21 screens
New Zealand: ?60.05 lakh (NZ$ 1,23,478) from 10 screens
Fiji: ?16.52 lakh (FJD 51,702) from two screens
The combined overseas and domestic collections of the film after the opening weekend is ?163.51 crore.
