Some interesting articles worth reading about the success of Gadar...

There was so much written about it back in the day, it was a surprise success because it released on the same day as Lagaan, and there were many protests against it for being anti-Pakistani. Sunny Deol's and Anil Sharma's careers were on decline, and people thought Ameesha was ruining her career after KNPH's success. Surprisingly it worked in their favor, the movie revived and started careers. It is the biggest blockbuster since Sholay. Although it's kind of sad that the film is left unacknowledged today, even at that time it was ignored at awards.

Trying to say she's ousted from Wardah & Sanju's camp? Or Sanju is not a big star?

She talked about her friendship with Sanju in the interview. Stop over analyzing everything she says.

Gadar was a huge box office success...but thts abt it...its not the kind of film that would be remembered 10 or 20 years down the line for its quality...(like Lagaan, or DCH are, which were released in the same year or like sholay is...the best thing abt it was sunny deol's honest performance and he was the main reason why the film did so well anyway...tht man had huge mass following back then.

one of the article says -
After adjusting box-office figures for inflation, Gadar - Ek Prem Katha, at an estimated Rs 2000 crore, is Hindi cinema's biggest-ever grosser. On the completion of ten years of the film, director Anil Sharma crows, "Those were the days when the best theatres had their costliest tickets priced at Rs 25. The film did Rs 267 crore nett business a decade ago

2000 crores😲😲

It's not remembered because it doesn't have Aamir Khan or it's not a Yash Raj production. Come on, Gadar is played on TV all the time. Filmfare lists always ignore it and we all know why, the same reason they ignored handing out any awards for it.

It's definitely melodramatic, larger than life, and the action is unintentionally hilarious in some parts, but it's still a very well made film. The acting, the dialogue, the cinematography, the locales, the songs, the costumes, etc - everything was pitch perfect. It's a beautiful film despite its flaws, and it's evident they worked very hard on it. The movie was shot within two years and they did a lot of research before they began filming. Too bad nowadays periodic dramas are not appreciated, all you see is modern rom-com shit by YRF and co.

People created chaos at the cinemas to watch it for the umpteenth time for a reason. Half of the audience at the theaters stood for three complete hours. You don't see that kind of craze on any film today. Not even on a SRK, Aamir, or Salman film. No matter how much the media publicizes Ek Tha Tiger, the craze around it is nothing compared to the hysteria that was Gadar.

People can discredit Gadar all they want, but they can't snatch history away. Whether you hate the film or not, it won't change the fact that it is Hindi cinema's biggest blockbuster ever!

umm..nope...its one of those films which is a blockbuster but isnt considered a classic by many...movies which are remembered down the line, or are acclaimed as "classics" have an impact on popculture or set a trend...DDLJ set a trend of romcoms in hindi movies...sholay set a trend of western style action dramas...mughal e azam set a trend of opulent cinema...Lagaan set a trend of slicker production and technical values (music, cinematorgraphy etc)...Satya set a trend of mumbai underworld gangster flicks (without a yash raj banner or aamir khan backing it up)...

and ofcourse it didnt win awards because that year had dil chahta hai, Lagaan etc which were much more deserving...especially lagaan...

gadar did not set the trend and neither was it path breaking...it was just a huge hit of its times...it worked big time then...thts all...
kinda like housefull, rowdy rathore etc...huge hits...but people wont remember it 5 or 6 years from now...
