A 70-year-old woman was killed when she was knocked down by a Land Cruiser owned by Bollywood actor-filmmakerArbaaz Khan, police here said Monday. The Khan family says that they would not pay any compensation to the victim's family as she was disowned by them.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. Sunday near St. Andrew's Church when the vehicle was headed towards the home of the Khans at Bandstand.

The woman has been identified as Chandra Bala, police said. She was rushed to the Bhabha Hospital by a police constable and some autorickshaw drivers in the vicinity but died from her injuries.

The car was being driven by Dhananjay Pimpale. A top police official supervising the investigation said Pimpale came and reported the accident case to the police station shortly afterwards.

"We have recorded his statement and also the statements of two eyewitnesses who were present at the scene of the accident. We shall record the statements of the vehicle owner (Arbaaz Khan) and Sohail Khan (who has been using the vehicle)," the official told media-persons.

He confirmed that nobody else was present in the vehicle and also the fact that Pimpale was not intoxicated at the time of the accident.

"However, we shall send his blood samples for analysis to further confirm this," the official added.

Pimpale was later presented before a magistrate here Monday afternoon.

After a brief hearing, Pimpale was remanded in police custody till July 9, but soon afterwards, he applied for and secured a bail on an amount of Rs.10,000, his lawyer Zameer Khan told media persons.

Arbaaz's father, Salim Khan called it an "unfortunate" incident and told IANS: "The woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police."

He claimed that the woman, apparently frail, was not "crushed" as claimed in some quarters, but fell near the vehicle.

Meanwhile, Salman Khan - brother of Arbaaz - said that they won't pay any compensation, but would attend her cremation.

"We are not paying any compensation to the family members of the victim as we got to know that her family had disowned her," he told media outside his residence Galaxy Apartment in Bandra.

"She was sleeping on the streets that shows that her family had disowned her. Now those who will come to claim her body, they won't necessarily be her family members. But I hope they come to claim her body."

"When we'll come to know that her body has been handed over for cremation, we'll make sure that we three brothers and our father are there," added the star.

Salman Khan reacts to woman's death by Arbaaz's car

The Khan family was not paying any compensation to the 70-year-old woman who was killed by a Land Cruiser owned by Arbaaz Khan as she had been disowned by her family, the filmmaker's brother and Bollywood star Salman Khan said Monday.

"The accident happened by mistake. I spoke to my driver and he said when he was driving, he saw something like a black polythene bag on the road, but it was the lady who was completely in black. I would request everyone not to sleep on the road," Salman Khan told reporters at their Galaxy apartment home in Bandra here.

"We are not paying any compensation to the family members of the victim as we got to know that her family had disowned her," he added.

Salman Khan's sibling Sohail Khan said that he was "shocked" when he came to know about the accident.

"I was at home. I did not know what was happening. Only driver was there in the car. The car was coming home and they did not know who the family was," he told reporters.

Sohail Khan also said that "the news has been hyped a lot".

"Instead of focusing on who was in the car, people should focus on the fact that a woman died. I got to know about this incident after an hour. This accident happened by mistake," he added.

The value of a human life, esp if you are from a lower strata of the society is very low in India.

Not to worry, if you have money and big people backing you up there is no way, the accused will ever face punishment.

Salman Khan's sibling Sohail Khan said that he was "shocked" when he came to know about the accident.

"I was at home."

Didnt an earlier article say he was shooting? covering his tracks well, I can see.

My disgust for Bollywood and the ego headed stars, has reached an all time low.

I was of the same opinion that salman gets dragged unnecessarily. But in this case there is a strong and obvious connection, dont you think so?

One more loophole-

From an earlier article
Arbaaz's father, Salim Khan called it an "unfortunate" incident and told IANS: "The woman suddenly came in front of the vehicle and fell. The driver immediately applied the brakes and reported the matter to the police."

Whereas in another article Salman says the woman was sleeping on the road. The least these people can do is get their false stories right.

Disgusting.

Let me see. 10 years ago an accident happened involving Salman which is still in court.

Present day - Salman's brother's driver while driving meets with an accident and an old woman dies. Brother was not in the car, only the driver was in the vehicle. It's still not established whose fault it was, it could very well be the victim who was at fault. People over here start screaming for the head of Salman's brother for the big crime that he committed - being Salman's brother.

Yes, made perfect sense to me. Very intelligent people, they grasp all the facts even without going through the article. I wish I was that intelligent.

I'm with you on this one...

This one reeks a cover up like never before.

Besides the changing stories about his whereabouts...the thing that is the most blatant to me is his statement that he learned about the accident ONE HOUR after it happened.

Are you freaking kidding me???
Was he in antarctica???

I mean who would the driver 1st called when something of this magnitude happens? his boss I will presume!

In this age of cell phones and text messages ...you really want us to swallow the idea that you learn about this accident an hour after it happened!!! seriously???

To me...that statement is the most incriminating...and leaves no doubt in my mind that there is a big cover up taking place...

Who do these celebrities think we are??? Morons who will gobble anything they tell us.

They think we cannot read between the lines...and see discrepancies in their rehearsed statements... Puh.leaze...
