Producer-director Suneel Darshan's is gearing up also for the launch of his tall, strapping, 21-year-old, good-looking son, Shiv. A chat with the filmmaker. You are launching your son? It's true that I will be launching Shiv in 2007. I saw him taking great interest in acting so I thought why not launch my own son? We are looking for the right script. My banner will produce the film and though I would love to direct my son, but we haven't yet finalised the director.
Shiv is preparing for the launch by going through rigorous training in various faculties — dancing, fighting and building up his physical appearance and body. Why in 2007? All the mature actors are working in prime cinema this year, if I launch my son this year he will be lost amongst the mature actors. 2007 will see yet a new generation of actors coming in. Mere Jeevan Saathi is releasing on February 3. Nervous? Not at all. In MJS I have been able to communicate and achieve what I set out to do. It's a love triangle between Natasha (Karisma) a business tycoon, Vicky (Akshay) an emerging rock star and his love interest Anjali (Amisha). It's a very passionate love story. Why was it in making for so long? There were hassles between the producers and financiers. Then Karisma's marriage and pregnancy added to the delay. Even though it was three years in the making. But the look is very contemporary — costumes, make-up, presentation — everything. Karisma's role has shades of grey? Yes. She plays an obsessed lover in the film and obsession is a grey emotion. MJS will be a feather in Lolo's cap. Amisha too has been very cooperative and disciplined. When she was signed the film, her world crumbling around her but despite her personal crisis she maintained her professionalism. Will this be your last film with Akshay? I have left it to destiny… I don't expect anything from anybody today. After completing Jaanwar — my first film with Akshay — he said to me, 'promise me you will make 30 films with me.' I have stuck to that promise — in seven years I have made seven films with him. I am not a user. I haven't used Akshay Kumar or any actor nor do I intend doing so. Are you hurt about what happened? No. There are disturbances in human relationships and those that stand the test of time and withstand all trials and tribulations are the true ones. What's happening with Manish's film? That will happen this year. Manish was completing his prior commitments like Karan's Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. Now he's gone back to his scripting and should be setting up the project soon. And I will start my next directorial project very soon after Mere Jeevan Saathi releases. |
