The He-Man of Bollywood, Dharmendra, made his comeback withYamla Pagla Deewana. He is also set so make his small-screen debut soon. The actor really looks geared up for future projects. He is not somebody who likes to talk about his work, because he would rather let his work speak for him. We talk to Dharam Paaji about his films, family, and more.
Yamla Pagla Deewana
We never thought Yamla Pagla Deewana would become such a big hit. I am glad that the audiences loved it. It feels really good when audiences like what you do, because we make films for them and to entertain them. I got so many messages, flowers, and fans' comments on the film, and I really appreciate it.
Televsion debut
I am soon making my debut in television with India's Got Talent.Everything just happened. I hadn't decided to make a debut in TV. I guess I was offered the show because audiences still want to watch me. Before this too, I was offered many other shows, but this show somehow touched me, as it produces some fresh talent across the world. India's Got Talent is something which is not done before. I fell in love with the concept the first time I heard of it, and since I could connect with it, I took it up.
Sequel?
Yes, we are working on the sequel to Yamla Pagla Deewana, but it will take time, as the script is still being written. Once everything falls into place, we will start shooting for it.
Esha Deol
Both Esha and Ahana are very talented. They were good at studies, and are now in their professions too. Esha is making a comeback to Bollywood with Tell Me Oh Khuda, and Hema (Malini) is directing and producing it. I worked with Esha in Tell Me Oh Khuda for the first time, and we enjoyed it so much. We used to be together from morning till night: eating on the sets, shooting, and chatting. It was an emotional time of bonding for us while working for this film. I still remember how Esha use to follow me on the sets when she was young. She has wanted to be an actress since then.
Tell Me Oh Khuda
Tell Me Oh Khuda is about a father and daughter: how their emotional bonding and relationship happens. It's a very touchy film, and I am glad to be a part of it. It will be something different from what I have done till date, because it's an emotional film, and I have usually done comedy or action films. The release dates are not yet fixed, as there is still some post-production work left. I hope the film will release before December.
Hema Malini
It's almost after 14 years that Hema and I are working together. The members of the film resembled my family. So, I would leave home and go home during the days of shooting. I must admit that Hema has produced and directed the film really well. She is very strict when it comes to work, and perfect at what she does. She wants everything in place, and she has done a great job. She understands the camera. She knows what the audience wants. It was great acting under her.
Future Projects
Currently, I have finished shooting for Tell Me Ohh Khuda. Some dubbing is left. Apart from that, I will be seen in a movie called Cheers with my younger son, Bobby. After that, I will start working on Yamla Pagla Deewana 2, once everything falls into place.
Favorite newcomers
I think Ranbir Kapoor is a real gem. He doesn't need to learn anything, as it's in his blood. He gets better with each film. I think Deepika Padukone is really nice too. The new lot is impressive, and I like Anushka Sharma, Ranveer Singh, and Imran Khan as well.
