Ranveer dumps Shaad Ali's film
Though a very close friend of the filmmaker's, the actor chooses to do Band Baaja Baraat director, Maneesh Sharma's next.
Ranveer Singh is on a career-high. But, his climb to stardom has unfortunately alienated him from many.
Says a source from the industry, "Band Baaja Baraat has changed Ranveer's fortunes but he has now made himself completely inaccessible to prospective producers. Even the most prominent moviemakers are expected to go through Ranveer's business manager, while still risking being turned down."
According to sources, Ranveer always consults his mentor, Aditya Chopra. The actor has apparently told his close friends that he will not do any films outside the Yash Raj banner for at least three years. Ranveer's next project involves the Band Baaja Baraat team. But, the actor seems to have forgotten about a project he was to do with another Yash Raj director, Shaad Ali.
Surprisingly, Ranveer and Shaad go back a long way. He assisted Shaad in directing Jhoom Baraabar Jhoom and soon the two became close friends.
Says a source, "Shaad showed Ranveer around in the industry, introduced him to important filmmakers. Ranveer has come this far partly because of Shaad's support."
Shaad's last directorial venture, Jhoom Barabar Jhoom, was a colossal failure at the box office. At a time when Ranveer's support could have pulled Shaad's career out of the doldrums, the actor has chosen to do Maneesh Sharma's, Ladies V/S Ricky Bahl instead.
Meanwhile, the spokesperson for Yash Raj Films says, "We never announced a film with Shaad Ali featuring Ranveer Singh. Everyone else did. Yes, Shaad is going to make a film for Yash Raj but no timeline or cast has been finalised as yet."
All attempts to get Shaad to comment on the matter were futile.
