Award ceremonies are like a circus - Emraan Hashmi
By IANS, 13 January, 2011

Emraan Hashmi was nominated as best villain for his role in " Once Upon A Time In Mumbai" at two award ceremonies but the actor says such functions are like a "circus" and prefers audience acclaim any day.

"These award ceremonies really don't make a difference to me. I have got my acclaim and awards from the audience... I don't really see that (award functions) as something I ever really believed it. I generally don't approve of these nominations," Emraan told us.

"If you see any award ceremony, they are pleasing everyone. There are three categories for every actor... it's ridiculous... and three awards given to music. I really don't want to be part of the circus. The whole industry goes and claps for it but I don't want to be part of it," he said.

Set primarily in 1970s Mumbai, "Once Upon A Time in Mumbai" captures the changing face of the Mumbai underworld seen through the eyes of a police officer.

Directed by Milan Luthria, the crime thriller follows the rise of Sultan ( Ajay Devgn) and his eventual fall when his protege Shoaib (Emraan) challenges his supremacy and usurps power to rule the murky underbelly of the city.

While Emraan was nominated at both the Star Screen Awards and the Apsara Awards, he did not bag a prize for his performance. Emraan has won an award for his work in " Murder" at the 2005 Stardust Awards.

He was amazing in the film. Def better that guy from Dabangg. He is right, awards aren't everything. If the audience appreciated you, what more can you want esp in a place like bollywood awards that are a joke, I wouldn't want an award from them either.

Emraan is 100% right. Its been 2 yrs since I last saw an award show.

Until every award show stops awarding the Bachchans and SRK with some lame award, I have decided not to see an award show.

I think everyone has ageneralidea about these awards and each one of us has adifferent opinion but when you keep saying this award is crap and repeat that many mant times then you will be the man who are diying to win and make peoplenotic you .In simple words many actors tweets like what emraan did and its silly because in simple words if yoy dont like these award just ignore it and dont accept anyaward or attent any festival like Aamir khan .You dont care about it then you shouldnt care about headline from you about it .

the point is, it is dis-hearting for the actors, directors and technicians who put in gr8 performances and get acclaimed for them, to never get the recognition they deserve from awards.....while others with lesser merit and more PR get awarded....its like losing a deserved promotion or scholarship to someone not as worthy....the fact that prominent actors like ajay, aamir, etc dunt take them seriously is justified.
