Your first film releasing this year is Kurbaan. What was it about Kurbaan that drew you to it?
I'm very good friends with Karan and we have a comfortable relationship. So I walked into his office thinking it's going to be this love story between Saif and Kareena, I didn't know what kind of role he was going to offer me. It's Karan who's always been so sweet to me and so I told him straight away 'I don't want to do just any role, I want to do a role with some meat in it'. He started laughing and said to just read the script. So I said ok and read it immediately'I couldn't believe it! I read it twice over and said 'Why me man?' and he said 'So now you think it's too good?' I said no I was just so touched and amazed that he chose me and he said that he's always believed that I'm a fine actor and that this would be the chance to show the world exactly what I'm made of. I was so touched by that belief that he had in me and that was it, I promised him I'd make him proud.
There are people drawing similarities between Kurbaan and New York, what do you have to say to that?
It's chalk and cheese. I truly believe that my director Rensil D'Silva is absolutely brilliant and I believe he is the next Mani Ratnam.
