Salman Khan refuses Sooraj Barjatya film

Sallu refuses Sooraj Barjatya's next, because it wasn't a lead role

Salman Khan and Sooraj Barjatya have worked in various movies in the past but when the director recently approached him with a role in his next, the actor turned him down.

Industrywallahs are wondering if this will affect the two-decade friendship that the director and the actor share. The pair first worked together in Maine Pyaar Kiya (1989).

A source in the industry says, "Sooraj has been working on his next script for some time now. After the success of Vivaah, he wants to direct again.

Once again, in true Rajshri style, it is a very simple, sweet family drama that has a love story. There is a pivotal role in the film that Sooraj thought was perfect for Sallu.

He called the actor for a story narration. Sallu showed up." Sooraj is known to give long and lengthy narrations.

This time too, it was no different. After the narration ended, Salman told Sooraj that the lead of the movie had to be someone young and he wasn't suited for the role.

To his surprise, the maker told him that the role he intended to give Sallu was not that of the main lead but that of one of the characters in the film.

The source continues, "Salman was not impressed with the role offered to him and said no straight off. He also told Sooraj that come what may in his career, he would never do silly character roles.

He feels that if he did so, he would be betraying his fans as they still want him to do the main leads," concludes the source.

"Salman was not impressed with the role offered to him and said no straight off". No beating around the bush! He said it straight. IMO he did the right thing.

Well its stupid firstly soraaj b has always said that he would never offer salman a film thats not for him...secondly salman needs to remeber it was rajshri that started his career and for me the best film of his carrer. Come on does not want to do silly films whats all the david dhawan comedies.

Personally i think its false news...give me a few hours will find sooraj-jis quote 😛

i think that this is false because Sooraj B has already said in an interview that he wont offer Salman small roles - only substantial ones.

Didn't Salman do a small (non lead) role in Kuch Kuch Hota Hai? Also, many other actors including SRK, Abhishek often accept smaller but interesting roles in films. Salman shouldn't forget that the Barjatya's have a big hand in his success and I am sure Sooraj would have chosen a good role for him albeit non lead.

well, possibly this is false news..
but i don't agree with this.. just because they gave him his first break, doesn't mean he should do roles that he isn't comfortable in.. otherwise, he won't be able to do justice to them.. and i don't think he is going to do that again what he did in KKHH.. that was long ago..

Its his choice - maybe he just didnt like the role or he is getting a bit sensitive since his movies havent been doing well lately

Here is the quote and i think it clears up both of their point view it was a while ago things may have changed but i doubt it since i do not sense any problem from salman he even mentioned sooraj-ji in his blog he had:

Audiences thought you were going against your cinema in "Main Prem" and Hrithik was acting like your favourite Salman Khan.
That's true. I take full responsibility. I tried to give a certain feel and flavour to my characters. The equation worked with Abhishek's character. But something went drastically wrong with Hrithik's... Salman played my hero Prem in my first film "Maine Pyar Kiya". When I first sketched the character, Salman was very much a part of it. When you start off together you are bound to grow close.

Will you work with him again?
Of course! But it has to be a film and a role that allows both of us to go beyond what've already done. The best thing about Salman is, he isn't afraid to experiment on screen. After "Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon" I was going through a period of creative uncertainty. I had ideas for five films with Salman. When I narrated them to him he liked some of them. But all the ideas were in gestation.

"Vivah" was one idea that had concretised in my mind. It kept coming back to haunt me. It had to be made first. And my father is very excited about it. I trust his judgment completely. "Maine Pyar Kiya", "Hum Aapke Hain Koun" and "Hum Saath Saath Hain" were subjects chosen by my father, "Main Prem Ki Diwani Hoon" was chosen by me.

Now you know why trust my father's judgement. I went up to him and told him about the ideas for my next film. He straightaway selected "Vivah''
