I can understand audience knowing everything about him because we see clips that the housemates don't. That because despite of having less fan following he is in top 5. He got max footage in this season. It would not be wrong to say that BB16 belongs to Shalin Bhanot.

Neutral audience has actually started liking him. Initially almost all of us used to dislike him due to his shady past but now either some people like him, some find him confusing, some find him irritating, some find him as a clown but that hatred is been reduced. This is what he has achieved.

I was aware of his past but I did try to judge him solely by his performance inside the house. Yeah he has gotten max footage but for bad reasons: his aggressive stints against many female players (throwing stuff at or around them or coming up right to their faces and screaming) be it Sumbul, Tina, Soundarya, Archana or Priyanka solidified his shady past image. Not only did he try to contact every housemate before the show began but he also tried to concoct a fake love story first with Soundarya and then Tina. He has been reduced to a clown because of bashing from Salman and Tina giving it back to him tenfolds 👏.

And regarding him being in top 5, he would have left right after Tina if BB makers hadn't hatched a plan to first get Sumbul and then Nimrit evicted by doing shady things on their end 😆 cause both of them have bigger fanbases than him.
