Maharana Pratap Singh -Reign 1572-1597
Maharana Pratap Singh was only seventeen and Maharani Ajabde of fourteen,(other sources say she was 15,i am not sure which one is correct) when their childhood love culminated into marriage. It was 1557 AD. He had ten other wives, notable among them were his marital alliances with the Chauhans through his fourth wife Jasobai and eight wife Alam De Bai.
He married Phool Kanwar Rathore, Princess of Marwar to prevend Akbar from marrying yet another Rajput Princess.
Maharani Ajabde was the favourite wife of Rana Pratap.Ajabde has studied the astrology to develop the 100 year calendar of Rana Pratap's life.
Ajab De proved to be a perfect consort to him. Not only was she a graceful Rajput lady, she was also earned in astrology and vedas.
She could foretell his future and when he was in a dilemma she stood by him and urged him to continue his fight for his motherland. Maharani Ajabde was led Maharana Pratap to take the right decision using strategic wisdom and the core values.
She was the lifeline of the brave warrior, and sacrificed and struggled with him at many a times. She supported him to raise an army against the Mughals. She was the Maharani of the greatest Maharana of Mewar and their love was beyond the rules of kingship, and systems of creed and caste.
Unfortunately, after 24 years of being married to Rana Pratap Singh and taking active part in his decisions of court and all his political alliances and other marriages, Ajab De died leaving him much aloof from the matters of the court.
Some reports say she had prolonged illness but there is no trace of anything in history except the fact that those few years were years of lesser activities on Pratap's part as a Maharana.
On her death bed, she made him promise, reluctantly, to marry her sister, his nineth wife.
He shifted his capital to Chavand during this time.Even after her untimely death, he refused to place another queen as his consort in court, proving his undying love to her.
Being Ajab De's son Amar Singh always got the favor of his father and his subjects who loved their queen for her down to earth warm nature and patriotism.
Ajabde had one more son Bhagawandas. The relationship betwen Ajab De Punwar and Maharana Pratap reflected love beyond their castes and creed and how a commoner became a perfect queen adored and admired by her subjects and her warrior husband.
She also understood and performed her duties as a mother to the soldiers of Rana whose heads bowed with sheer reverence to the lovely queen. She was one of those women who stood tall and invisible behind a great warrior king's successful and famous name and work.
Now that Kuwar Pratap and Kuwarani will become Maharana Pratap who fought the Mughals and safeguarded his people until his death and Maharani Ajabde perfect consort to him who urged him to continue his fight for his motherland.
I hope we get to see the journey of Maharana Pratap as a brave warrior who had unbreakable determination and courage and Maharani Ajabde as a mother to the soldiers of Rana whose heads bowed with sheer reverence to the lovely queen.
