Chapter 15
Hakim Khan aka topchi was a well-known for his principles and values. HE lived deep in the hills on the border of Mewar as he found the place quite strategic as well safe. An entire village resided with him from elders to new-borns as well as families even though he was surrounded by many people he was still a lonely man as he did not have any special one in his life and his parents were long dead but he had responsibilities which he took seriously. Now he stood overlooking the valley that separated the Rajputana from the Mughal empire thinking about the latest development - Kunwar Pratap of Mewar had left Chittor after his own family had tried to hurt his beloved princess of Bijolia, no one knew where he was or what he was planning but the way Mughal forces had started to slowly creep forward made him realise that even the Mughals had gotten the news and now planned on attacking the kingdom but the more important question for him was that whom would he support- Mughals because of their same religion or Pratap who was in every sense as a noble man like him
On the other hand a young man dressed in black with a sapphire blue waistband with a sword in it stood looking at the Chittor palace- the entire place was covered in darkness even the flames of the lit torches were not sufficient to bring in light to the place. Drowning in sorrow was the entire city where no one lit any diyas since the departure of their beloved Baujiraj- Kunwar Pratap a man of principles one who followed every order of his elders especially his father Rana Uday Singh had left Chittor after he learnt the horrifying truth about the third queen DheerBai the vapid woman who brought the darkness upon the entire kingdom. Suddenly sounds of anklets is heard and the man hides himself but as he sees the woman it takes all his self-control to not to run to her and hold her tight. It had been so long since he saw her close but did she not realise the dangers that lurked outside at this time and here she was going on and about doing God knows what. The woman slowly moved towards the dimming torches trying to make them light a bit stronger but it was of no use she knew that but her innocent heart wanted to still try after all that was her duty- she needed to make sure her family stayed safe and darkness looming over them was scaring her when she felt his presence- she had always felt his presence back in the day when he would try to scare her from behind and she would let him as he would give her a big smile after it but today she couldn't let him go without seeing him so she turned but found no one there. Tears threatened to spill out of her eyes as she stood silently and patiently waiting for him to show himself but he did not come. So with a last look of longing she turned around and went back inside
The man stood silently looking at the departing figure and whispered please forgive me Maa
Chapter 16
Phool Kanwar was not eating anything since her return she had turned into a zombie of sorts no longer did dressing up interest her nor did buying new things or receiving gifts. She no longer demanded for anything from her family and she had not spoken a word since her marriage was cancelled with Kunwar Pratap. The moments of silence had been enlightening as she understood the wounds she had given to her friend her impulsive reaction to the entire situation of Pratap confessing his feelings in front of the family and then DB and UD's talk had her so confused that she lashed out at her thinking that Ajabde was the guilty person when in fact she was innocent and now they had all gone in different directions not knowing if they would ever again
Subhagyawati knew about Ajabde's inner turmoil her friend was still worried about Princess of Marwar and was still maintaining a distance from the man she dearly loved but not anymore as Ajabde needed to understand the ground reality about everything
Ajabde: He told me he would kill and lay down his life for me
Subho: So what was your response Ajabde?
Ajabde: I was stunned and speechless
Subho: He confessed his feelings for you once again and you were speechless please tell me you at least gave him any indication about your own feelings?
Ajabde: Everything is so new to me Subhagyawati I mean never in my wildest dreams did I ever think that someone like Kunwar Pratap would ever like a girl like me- I'm no special I'm not even as beautiful as Phool or the other princesses besides my own father despises my birth blaming me for killing my brother, I have been reminded of my commoner status well enough in Chittor by his Choti Ma that I'm scared that if I follow my heart than I will get hurt
Subho: Are you telling me that Ajabde Punwar the strongest girl I know and love is scared of falling in love? Ajabde Kunwar Pratap loves you the way you are he is not concerned with physical beauty and least of all your commoner status.
Ajabde: I don't know what he sees in me?
Subho: Well he sees a well-mannered, polite, soft-spoken girl who sings in the most melodious voice and makes mouth-watering food. He loves the girl who makes sure that everyone is comfortable and doing well before her own needs and desires, he loves the girl who does not need expensive gifts to be happy rather she finds happiness in moments making them priceless. He loves the simplicity of the girl who does not ask for new things for herself but makes sure people of her city are well fed and clothed
Ajabde looks at her friend stunned and then glances at the man of her dreams who was busy planning out the next leg of their journey. They were going to the hilly areas by the border of Mewar to try and meet with Hakim Khan the topchi as Pratap wanted to build a friendship with him. She had heard of the topchi- he was a man of principles which made her believe that he would accept Pratap's friendship as even Pratap was like him a man of principles. Kunwar Pratap was a man who always put his motherland and family before his own desires but today he fought his entire family left his home for her sake which made her feel special and important- she never wanted him to have a fight with his family members but now that she knew about Dheer Bai's conspiracy she felt bad for him and pity for Phool as she knew her friend was manipulated by the vapid woman and her sister (UD). Ajabde was well aware that he knew about her feelings towards him and was respecting her privacy by allowing her to accept them on her own but accepting her feelings would make them real and if she allowed herself to feel and experience love this once what was she supposed to do if he fell out of love with her? The What Ifs are a big deal breakers and she had seen many people who once openly spoke of their love spending their entire lives as strangers and she did not want that- she wanted an everlasting love, a relationship that would see both of them as equals but was it possible?
Chapter 17
All the preparations had been done for next part of the journey as everyone went making their final preps (packing and stuff) before their commencement the early next morning. Pratap had seen Ajabde sitting all by herself looking at the scenery in front of her (forests and hills) but on careful observation he realised she was lost in her thoughts. Her thoughts were a scary place to be as she never saw herself clearly in any way, put others before her even though they did not deserve it and just stepped back into shadows scared of reaching out for her light but this time he would not let go of her as he intended on proving to her the depth of his feelings at every chance he got and so he went and sat beside her quietly
She had already felt his presence they were both alone as the area was a farther away from the campsite and besides everyone was preparing for the morning departure so they sat in relative silence enjoying each other's presence and the scenery when she spoke up
Ajabde: You cannot say NO to me ever
Pratap: Huh?
Ajabde: My condition for winning the bet is that you cannot say NO to me ever
Pratap: Okay so is there a time limit or
Ajabde: Well you wanted to spend the rest of your life with me so if that is still the case then no time limit but if you have changed your mind then...
Pratap looks at the girl sitting beside him she was finally agreeing to be his forever or was it a trick
Pratap: This better be no joke Ajabde
Ajabde: I'm serious Kunwar Pratap- I have tons of issues to deal with seeing that you are the first person who actually wishes to be with me and accepts me for myself so I'm taking a leap of faith if you will and in order to do that you have to agree to say YES to all of my demands
Pratap: Hmmm...demands and you
Ajabde gets close to him: Trust me I can be quite demanding if I wish to be. So what is it going to be?
Pratap closes the distance between them and captures her lips in a searing kiss. Both of them were pressed tightly against each other as if wanting to get as close as they could without having to let go. They forgot everything around them- all their friends, the campsite, the events that took place even the upcoming journey was a distant memory all they were concerned was with the fire burning within both of them which was urging them on to be as close as they could get. The kiss broke after a few moments so that they could breathe but Pratap's lips travelled down her throat over to the shoulder and back - he was leaving a trail of kisses all over making her press herself close to him. Kisses rained upon her eyes followed by cheeks then her nose and again her lips were captured but for a small time only because before he could deepen the kiss a voice rang out
Baujiraj Where are you? Baujiraj?
Making Pratap glare at the intruder while Ajabde blushed a deep shade of red
Pratap: I will kill Chakrapani
Ajabde hides a smile: No because he is a good friend of yours and even I consider him my friend
They get up and move towards the camp
Pratap: I promise to never say NO but you need to promise me something as well Ajabde
Ajabde looks at him and he continues if the situation gets dangerous then you will do as I tell you to and not fight me on it
Ajabde: Are you trying to scare me away? Because that is not going to work- I promise to agree to your sensible demands as well but you need to let me assess the situation myself
Pratap: You mean everything to me and I cannot lose you at any cost
Ajabde: You won't lose me I promise
They walk hand-in-hand towards the camp but before their friends could see them Ajabde walks on further but says
Also Kunwar Pratap if you do intend on marrying me I demand a proper proposal
She walks on leaving behind a stunned yet happy Pratap
