Chapter 6
There was a deafening silence spread all over the palace of Chittor not even the birds were not chirping nor were any of the animals could be heard. Everyone had locked themselves in their chambers - Uday Singh was highly distraught and was speaking only to Rawatji, JB along with SB were keeping an eye on DB and UD as they had seen both of them look pretty happy and content since Ajabde's departure, VB was worried about Phool as she had overheard her conversation with Subhagyawati and she was worried about the princess of Marwar but most of all it was the deafening silence that was eating everyone up as it is said there is a certain calm before the storm hits and no one was prepared for the storm that was about to hit Mewar
Rao Maldev was an egotistical narcissist but he was a man of principles so he was fuming in anger when he learnt about the deeds done by his wife and her sister against the Samant's daughter. He held no ill towards the girl but the only problem was that if she was present then Phool would never get her happiness and for him his grand-daughter's happiness meant more than his own life so he had insulted her (Ajabde) so that she may leave but he never wished for her to get attacked by a pack of hounds. He knew that if the truth came out then there would be a lot of problems but he also knew that if he stayed silent then he was no better than the cowards who run away from the battle field. Steeling his resolve Rao Maldev decided to meet Rana Uday Singh to tell him the truth and also apologise to Rao Mamrakh for his lapse in judgment
DheerBai and Uma Devi were happy as their plan had succeeded - as per their informer Ajabde was attacked and had not yet been discovered and now they sat in DB's room making preparations for the wedding of Phool Kanwar and Kunwar Pratap. A servant enters and informs them of their required presence in the family room which confuses them but do not pay much attention to it. As they enter the room they get suspicious on seeing everyone gathered there including Ajabde's parents but they put on a fake mask of concern and greet everyone
Rana Uday Singh was burning with rage over the misdeeds of his wife- the one whom he married because he felt that he loved her but the truth was she was in love with power and riches and her actions proved to him the extent she was ready to stoop down to get what she desired and then there was her sister who was equally as bad but all she had done was agree to everything without even listening to her plan. Now they will be punished for all the bad they had done but he remembered his promise to Rao Maldev who wished to handle his wife back in Marwar and not Mewar - he agreed to apologise to Rao Mamrakh and his wife for causing pain to their daughter but what no one was ready for was Pratap's sudden arrival and his declaration
Chapter 7
Chakrapani: Are you sure you want to do this? I mean if we go ahead with it there are going to be huge consequences and not all of them are going to be good Baujiraj
Pratap: I don't care anymore Chakrapani right now all I know is that my own family tried to hurt the one person I loved and this time I'm not going to sit still and allow it. This time I intend on making my stand clear- Ajabde deserves that from me
Chakrapani: I understand Baujiraj but what about your duties?
Pratap: I have always put duty on the top and it will remain that way but I also have to protect the ones I love and care about Chakrapani and this is the only way I can do both without any extra baggage on me. Pratap went to see his beloved one more time before he took the biggest step of his life.
DheerBai was stunned at the evidence that was produced before everyone gathered in the room- all her careful planning, perfect executions lay bare before everyone to see through her faade of loving Kunwar Pratap and even her pleas had not reached anyone's (specifically Uday Singh's) ears. The evidence which went from her letters to hidden objects (Kundli) and witnesses had proven her guilty even her own Jija had turned against her and there was nothing left to be done
Before the punishment could be delivered the servant announced Pratap's arrival to the family members and guests in the room; Pratap came in with an impassive look on his face but his eyes were telling a different story his mother summarised. She knew her son was about to give a fatal blow to the family and no one would be able to soften the blow as they were all responsible for the recent events including her but her son's fury was something she always wanted to take away as in his anger he forgot everything and allowed it burn himself with it
US: Kunwar Pratap we are glad you could join us. There is something you need to know
Pratap: Ranaji is something wrong?
Rawatji: Kunwar Pratap the thing is after you left to invite your friends there was an altercation that took place which resulted in Ajabde's departure from the palace
Everyone's heads bow down as they all know it was no altercation rather Dheer Bai's plan to remove the girl from the palace
Pratap: an altercation Rawatji hmmm...Did this altercation by any chance include humiliating and insulting Ajabde in front of everyone with no one bothering to protect her or even say a word in her defence?
Everyone is stunned hearing Pratap's words - those caustic words that cut deeper than a sword. Jaiwanta Bai realised that something dreadful had happened to change her son in such a manner because even if he had shown anger it had carried anger with him but the young man in front of her was so calm and composed yet speaking of the truth in a frank manner was not her son
JB: Is Ajabde alright Kunwar Pratap
Pratap looked at his mother: She is fighting for her life as we speak and she might lose the fight so all of the efforts that you all put in to make sure she left me have worked out rather well don't you think so
The family is shattered on seeing the elder son's behaviour which is so unlike him - it was like the body belonged to Pratap but not the soul.
US: We know what happened was wrong Kunwar Pratap all of us here are really sorry about it as well but at the time circumstances
Pratap: Ranaji kindly do not blame the circumstances because even in the toughest of times we stand by what is right and what is wrong- circumstances may force us to stop but we never bend ourselves down but I'm not here for this reason- my reason in coming back is for the guilty to be punished and only I will punish the one involved in hurting Ajabde
Hansa Bai: Kunwar Pratap I understand you are hurting and are in pain but lashing out in anger is not going to help anyone besides Rao Maldev ji has already apologised for everything that took place in your absence here in Chittor.
Pratap: Ajabde clearly takes after you Mosiji I see the same kind-heartedness in her that you show here she is truly your daughter that being said if I let go of my anger and the culprit is not punished with the harshest of punishments then that person would return in near future to cause way more harm than they have already done
So tell me Choti Ma why did you do it? What possibly could you gain by hurting Ajabde? I mean I agreed to the alliance between Mewar and Marwar so what changed?
Dheer Bai could not believe that even Pratap knew about her involvement
Kunwar Pratap I was just scared that her presence might cause more troubles than it's already worth so I ...
Pratap: You decided to send hounds after her and made sure she had no security with her as well. Did you forget that we protect the honour of the females and you are a Rajputana woman yourself and you sent not one or two but 10 lecherous dacoits after her- what were you trying to do? He roared in anger
The new revelations had everyone alarmed as no one ever thought that a royal lady could perform such an act- an act so horrifying and the mere thought of harming a young maiden's honour was abhorrent. Pratap continued
Did you know what they intended to do to her once they captured her or did you pay them for that as well Rani Dheer Baiji? You kept on reminding her of her social status here in the palace in front of everyone but she never once complained you know why? Because you are my mother and you would only think for my betterment was her response but she did not know that the only thing you ever dreamt was of my death so that Jagmal could get the throne wasn't it?
Pratap was on roll making sure everyone knew what sort of vapid creature lived with them... Did you actually think I didn't know what was going on? You actually believed that after your act of treason I would trust you - for me you are nothing more than a traitor who deserved to be hanged but unfortunately my father actually cares for you and that is the reason you are alive and ruining all of our lives. You are the main reason my Bhai is no longer here with his family because you created unnecessary issues - it was you who blamed him for every misdeed so that he could be seen as a rebel and when he was on to you- you got him kicked out of the palace
DheerBai stood still trying to wrap her head around the fact that her carefully constructed image was all shattered and there was nothing she could do but Pratap's last words were her punishment
So Rani DheerBai Bhatiyani you did all of this for the throne of Mewar well you can keep it for all I care. I Kunwar Pratap Singh grandson of Rana Sangram Singh of Mewar declare that I will not stay in Mewar anymore (cue flash of thunder and lightning) I do not consider you as my mother anymore for me you are nothing more that Rana Uday Singh's wife (Thunder and lightning) I will not allow you to use me or my family members as tools for your schemes and I will never marry Phool Kanwar Rathore (thunder and lightning). Do not ever try to cause any more troubles - you all have seen what Pratap Singh can do for the ones he loves and now you will all see what He does to his enemies
With that Pratap turned around and left from the room leaving behind the shattered and torn family of Mewar. Jaiwanta Baiji went after her son as she refused to let him leave in the manner he did. So she went to the one place she knew he would definitely go (the room with the ancestors portraits). Sajja Bai, Hansa Bai and Veer Bai trailed behind her as they all wanted to speak to the young prince as well
Chapter 8
They said history is made and unmade with one decision. One decision had the power to make or break a kingdom - if Duryodhan had taken the decision not to humiliate Draupadi in a room full of men maybe the Mahabharat war might have not taken place but that was not so
Pratap had made up his mind he had to leave Chittor if he wanted to protect his motherland from the foreign invaders because he knew if he stayed then he would only be solving issues within the family and not perform his duties towards his motherland- the only bright side he had was that he would have Ajabde with him
As he stood to leave the palace he heard his name and turned around to see his mother standing with the puja thaal along with JB, SB and HB
JB: Are you going to leave without the Vijay Tilak Kunwar Pratap?
He walked towards his mother and took everyone's blessings followed by the Tilak. He was then presented with gifts for Ajabde from all the ladies and a promise that he would keep them updated about her health. As he walked towards the gates he met with Rao Mamrakh and Rawatji who proceeded to bless him and gave him a sword as per tradition (son-in-laws get new swords from Mamasa!!!) he promised them to look after Ajabde and protect her and then he sat on his horse and took off
The entire Chittor had gathered outside the palace gates as news of Kunwar Pratap spread all over like wild fire and people flocked to catch his glimpse and few of them joined him in his quest - Subhagyawati and Patta were the two main people who joined him as they reached the border they found Rana Uday Singh waiting for him
US: Did you intend on leaving without meeting me
Pratap got down and touched his father's feet but stayed silent
US: I know why you are doing this and even though I may not support you but my blessings are going to be with you always. Take care of Ajabde she is a really fine partner for you reminds me of your RaniMa. He hands him a package- this is for Ajabde make sure she gets it and if possible try and find your brother Shakti as well. And whenever you need any help do not hesitate to ask- We are all going to be there for you. Now go
Pratap: Thank you Daajiraj
