Chapter 40
Rao Mamrakh went straight to his daughter's room after their grand welcome and so did the others. He went and sat by her bedside rubbing his hands over her head just staring at the wonderful gift he had been bestowed by the Gods and he had not appreciated her because of his shortcomings. He whispered:
I'm so sorry Ajabde please forgive your father for all his faults. I should have been there for you when you needed me but I was not and for that I'm to be blamed but I hope you will find it in your big heart to forgive me
Everyone understood his pain and the guilt as well so the father-daughter duo were given some privacy as they knew that RM needed to reach out to his daughter but before they could all move out a weak voice joined them
Daata?
RM was delighted to see his daughter regaining consciousness as her eyelashes fluttered open he sent a thanks to the almighty for giving him another chance to make amends with his first born
RM: How are you feeling now Ajabde?
Ajabde: Daata what are you doing here? You should be resting and (she tried getting up but RM stopped her)
RM: I'm absolutely fine my child and so is your mother. Your prayers were answered my child
Ajabde looks at her father who was smiling at her and she smiled back at him
RM: I know I have never shown any concern or love towards to you but that does not mean that I did not care for you Ajabde. I realise that I have made many mistakes when it comes to you but I promise you everything will change for the better now. You can come to me for anything and everything after all you are my daughter
Ajabde just smiled at her father when her mother came in with her brother
HB: Your brother has been asking for you Ajabde
Kunwar Balwant a mere babe looked at his sister and giggled showing his toothless smile and HB told her husband to go and rest before the dinner feast
RM kissed his daughter's head and left for his room followed by HB and KB
Chapter 41
Ouch Maa careful please Shakti complained to SB who was trying to get her son bandages changed but he was not making it easy for her.
SB: Kunwar Shakti sit still or I will call your elder brother to hold you still
Shakti: Come now Maa you won't do that to me (gives her imploring eyes)
JB enters with Pratap and Vikram.
Shakti: Badi Maa tell Maa to not tie the bandages so tightly
JB: Keep quiet and let her work. I know about all your mischiefs
Shakti looks at his brothers for help but in vain and then he enquires about his father Is he doing alright?
JB nods her head when Ranaji himself comes in to check his sons. A servant enters a few moments later with a message for Shakti that makes him light up and he runs out to greet the visitors
Everyone is confused and guessing on who the guests could be when Shakti returns with two little girls. Both of them were holding his hands and looking at the palace with sheer astonishment written on their faces
Shakti: Everybody I would like you all to meet my sisters - this one here is Chand and this tiny one is Maan
Maan: I'm not tiny I'm just a growing girl right now
Shakti: Yup and you'll grow up to be as tall as the tree
Maan: DadaBhai!!! She complained
Chand on the other hand was quiet and looking at all the people surrounding them- the ladies looked nice and happy, the big man was a bit scary but even he looked happy. Chand was the younger of the two sisters and was terribly shy compared to Maan who was an outspoken girl. Chand held onto Shakti's hand tightly scared that if she let go then they would be separated just like they had from their parents
Shakti looked at his family members: They are the daughters of the family who took me in after I was wounded in a fight. They were very nice people but those Afghans attacked in the dead of the night and there was nothing I could do to protect them but I promised to look after their daughters- they are in every sense my sisters
SB looked proud of her now grown up son so did JB and US. Pratap took a step forward and sat down in front of Chand. He stretched his hand and introduced himself as Pratap Shakti's elder brother
Chand: I'm Chand and ducked behind Shakti peeping out from behind and quietly added if you are his elder brother does that make you our Dada Bhai as well?
Pratap gave her an assuring smile: Of course I'm your new Dada Bhai so tell me what do you like the most and I will get it for you
Chand looked at her new brother whose smile made her comfortable and she smiled back: I love rabbits
Maan: I love goats
Pratap looked at his brothers and said: Come let's go and try to find some rabbits and goats
All the children went together to the gardens leaving behind proud parents.Originally posted by: coderlady

Chapter 42
Subhagyawati had warned her friend not to overdo it but Ajabde was bored and wanted to go out so she went to meet her long-time friend Lakshmi in the stable. Lakshmi was a peace loving sort of creature who preferred her solitude to company but whenever Ajabde came over Lakshmi would become happy as Ajabde was one of the few people Lakshmi allowed to be near her
Ajabde rubbed her hands over Lakshmi telling he all about the crazy adventures and then she uttered the name Phool. Lakshmi was not fond of Phool but knew that the girl was important for her friend so she slowly chewed on her grass and nodded her head as if she was agreeing with Ajabde's views on the spoilt princess.
Ajabde: Lakshmi I haven't heard a single thing from her till now. I know what ever happened has hurt her but even I got hurt and I'm still trying to mend relationships but no answer from her. What does that mean?
Lakshmi calmly chews her grass
Ajabde: I think you are right maybe it's time I moved on and besides I do have Subhagyawati and you as my friends. Well then I will not think about Phool anymore
But before she could leave a daasi came with a letter for her and told her that it was from Phool Kanwar
Ajabde took the letter but did not have the courage to read it as she was scared that Phool might still harbour feelings for Pratap but now things had changed between Pratap and her so she was scared if Phool asked her to back off- she would even if it hurt her because at the end of the day Mewar-Marwar alliance would only strengthen the kingdoms and the Rajputana. She was so lost she did not hear Pratap approaching- he had returned after getting his new sisters rabbit and a goat each as well as a special gift for Ajabde. Seeing her sitting beside Lakshmi with a letter in her hand looking so forlorn made his heart hurt but he was more worried about her health so he called out her name but got no response
Suddenly she got up paying no attention to Pratap and went inside. Pratap saw the letter she had forgotten there and took it- he knew that reading someone else's letter was wrong but if that letter hurt Ajabde then he needed to know everything about its content. The letter was from Phool Kanwar which made him worry and so he started to read the letter
Dear Ajabde
I hope you are doing well and have reached Bijolia safe and sound. You must be wondering why I am writing to you after all that happened between us in Chittor well firstly I wanted to apologise for hurting you; In my anger I said all those harsh things and blamed you for something that was never in anyone's control- you cannot force someone to fall in love with you that is not how love works. I never realised that I would fall for Kunwar Pratap and when I did I never thought that he would fall for you or you would be in love with him. All my life I have been given everything my heart desired so when I fell in love with Kunwar Pratap one side of me was like he would choose me after all I'm the princess of Marwar and the most beautiful of them all but I forgot that Kunwar Pratap never cared for physical beauty instead he fell for your goodness of character, your simplicity and most of all your selflessness Ajabde. You are an unique girl Ajabde because even after all that has happened between us I'm sure you would forgive me but right now I need to get some space because I'm a human and a girl who has just been rejected by the man she loves and wished to marry. Ajabde I will not stand in the way of your happiness- Kunwar Pratap loves you more than anything and he proved it when he exposed Rani DheerBai in front of everyone so I implore you choose him because more than you - he needs someone like you who understands the nuances of his life.
As for me I will always be your friend but I apologise that I cannot make it for your wedding because I'm not a big hearted person and to be honest I won't be able to see Pratap take you away from me so with all my good wishes for your bright future I hope to hear you wedding news soon
Love
Phool
Chapter 43
Ajabde sat by her window looking at the vast gardens of her palace when her father came looking for her. She greeted him and then realised that he was there for some important stuff
RM: Ajabde I wish to speak to you about something highly important
Ajabde: Ji Daata
RM: Rana Uday Singh has asked for your hand in marriage with his elder son Kunwar Pratap (she looks at him astonished and then remembers Phool's letter) I have told him that I need to ask you as this is a matter of your life so tell me child do you accept this proposal?
Ajabde: I don't know Daata. I don't know what to do?
RM: Tell me child what is troubling you?
Ajabde: Phool sent me a letter and I did not have the courage to read it as I'm scared that if I do then it will only cement the fact that she loves Kunwar Pratap and also the Marwar-Mewar alliance will be highly beneficial for the Rajputana and...
RM: That's a lot of ands Ajabde
She looks lost and he continues
RM: You cannot choose the person you fall in love with- look at your mother she has been with me for so long and I'm sure I have done nothing to deserve her love but somehow by grace of God she does love and care for me but with Kunwar Pratap I can see how much he cares for you- he fought for you and did not let any harm come to you. You rarely find someone who loves you to the extent of fighting the entire world including his own family. I know you love Phool but if Phool got married to Kunwar Pratap don't you think it will be an injustice to the three of you - you will sacrifice your love for the sake of the motherland and friendship, Pratap will sacrifice his love for motherland while Phool she might marry the man she loves but will she ever get that love in return. Three lives will be ruined for the sake of a political alliance- no alliances can be formed without ruining lives my child. Now you have till tomorrow evening to give me your answer and if I remember correctly Kunwar Pratap was looking for you
He kissed his daughter's forehead and went away. Ajabde looked at the gardens one more time feeling much relaxed her father had given her a lot to think about so she would do that and now if Kunwar Pratap did intend on marrying her then he better have a proposal ready she thought with a smile gracing her face.
