In fact, the only thing came up during court hearing was a doctor giving a clean chit to Maya, thereby neutralising any possible compassionate grounds of leniency that might arise owing to her six-month long stay at a mental asylum, while her mother chose to blackout Maya's childhood issues!

Saanjh was very clearly arguing a case of bad Maya as she prompted her to explain how she plotted her fake death drama, rather than a mad Maya killing another mad woman Mansi!
Her husband did not want to save her as he too was maintaining a stoic silence on his theory of bimari and not buri!!

So far what has been established is :
Maya used to take depression pills

She admitted herself in the mental asylum but in the court doctor clearly said that he has never met an intelligent woman like Maya..Maya is normal although suffering from depressing

Court declared her guilty and not mentally unfit and thus gave her the most severe punishment - death penalty.

Going by this Maya was a normal girl with a twisted psyche and her mental illness was a mere illusion

Another possibility if makers want to establish in the end that Maya was suffering from some mental disorder :

What exactly happened on the 9th birthday

The compunder did tell Saanjh that all doctors say Maya is okay but those who see her everyday know that she is mentally ill...that is what he said.

Can a normal girl be blinded so much by obsessive love that she can cross all limits by going on a killing spree and destroying everyone's lives including her's.

So far according to what had been established by the makers is that Maya is buri and not Beemar but they have left certain lingering questions which raise a doubt in one's mind if Maya was always a normal woman or suffering from some disorder

I hope makers will clarify this and if not then it is safe to say that one can assume that Maya was not mentally ill but created an illusion of the same

I do agree we don't have enough substance to determine whether Maya was buri or beemar.

But in this case one may argue, that the compounder was Samay's accomplice. He might have said all that to lure Saanjh into a trap. So that Samay could gift Maya a live telecast of Saanjh's 'shock therapy'.

Remember the incident of Maya keeping herself cool & just choosing to watch Rajiv burning while he tried to set ablaze himself to prove foolishly his love to her!
She did not wish to stop or even save him, unlike he did to her, in an earlier occasion! She just let him burn, before some others intervened!

This is certainly a very abnormal behaviour for a 18 plus young girl, who has not become obsessive in love, till then in her life!
Nor, Rajiv was as bad as Ashwin!
Even though he exploited her, Maya always had a choice to reject his offer unlike the case with Ashwin wherein she wasn't getting much choice, in life!
So, Maya's cruel mindset was very much a part of herself, visible even in her early days of life!
Was it her habit -coming to her as a natural response- to play cruel when she faced some adversity in life?
She was perhaps conditioned or self-trained to hit back whenever opportunity presented, as she would have learnt it- offence is the best form of defence - in a hard way, since her childhood!

Yes that is definitely a possibility. But she was obsessive enough to paint the walls with Arjun's portrait and use medicines to draw Arjun's portrait...her habit of banging the head when in distress...inital signs did indicate that she had some psychological problem but later Vadnana emphasised that she was buri and not Beemar and even the court declared her fine and gave her death penalty.

I do hope makers will clarify this once and for all...if not then we can safely assume that she was not mentally ill

P.s. - I meant compounder and not computer 😆

About your PS, yes I know. 😆

Yup, me considering Maya being Buri was mostly because of V's emphasis on Buri argument. The lady was downright judgmental but mostly right on the money in Maya's case every time.

About the contradictions, Doctor testified in the court "Nothing was wrong with her and they weren't actually treating her" and then went on to claim that they prescribed her antidepressants. 😕

Still we can conclude from this, earlier during fake death drama, Maya established that Arjun got her into an asylum when nothing was wrong her. And during her trial, she didn't plead in the court that she was mentally unstable, maybe because she couldn't possibly back her claim with evidences.

But Maya's dialogue from the last episode, "Pagal hoon toh pagalon vali harkatein hi karungi", does leave me confused. As in what the heck are the CVs aiming for?

Bold: Exactly my thoughts.

Except that nobody is born evil. And in the start they highlighted a lot about mental illness. She had been visiting psychiatrist since age 9. The refusal of medical insurance. The depression pills. The suicide attempts at the start. Going from killer to little baby next minute. And no doubt her childhood would have been very bad for her mind. Remember she kept saying main paagal nahin hoon to herself. Saanjh kept calling her paagal. Vandana only became nice to her after she admitted herself in mental hospital and she thought she got cured. Obsessive love is not a normal occurrence. The feelings were clearly brought on by childhood. When she saw Arjun cheating and lying she probably remembered Ashwin doing the same thing. They've never shown Maya as normal. Clearly something abnormal was driving her behaviour?

She was clearly not normal.

Initial signs do indicate that Maya was not normal...But if makers really don't elaborate on this then one can only speculate on the basis of the info given by the CVs

Also no one is born evil nor good...It is the environment in which we are raised that determine a lot how we shape up as we grow and then when we grow up the kind of environment we get that also defines a lot of things about us.

Here's what we know that indicate that Maya was a patient of depression and not 'mad' :

On one hand doctor said that Maya was normal but only suffering from depression

She used to take anti - depressants and not other medicines

Ashwin wanted to prove in front of the world that she was 'mad' but was she really mad or just a girl suffering from depression.

In court it was proven that she was not mentally ill

Maya didn't fight in the court stating that she was mentally ill

She never made genuine suicide attempts- She cut her wrist when she knew that her mom will save her , she attempted fake suicides in front of Arjun to emotionally blackmail him...So, it is hard to tell if her attempts were genuine coz she always made sure that someone was around to save her or her attempts were never life threatening

What we know that indicate that Maya has psychological problem

Constant banging of the door and all those initial signs

Her obsession of Arjun

Her initial behaviour that indicated that she had a problem

So, makers need to clarify as i have said whether she is really beemar or simply buri or her beemari made her buri

Many people become evil it's not that only mentally ill people are bad or else there was no use of jails only mental hospitals would have sufficed.

Yes they highlighted about mental illness but never confirmed it a visit to psycatrist doesn't necessarily mean mental illness.
About killer to little babies most of the biggest criminals do that as killing affect the minds severely and they relax their minds by playing mobile games, solving maths problems or watching cartoons.

Obsessive love may not be a normal occurrence but it also happens to people who have no other mental problems.

Obsession and Depression can be both mental ailments and normal features.

Now they did hint Maya as mentally ill but didn't show it so you can expect she wasn't one (as not everything is shown at the beginning in a thriller or a suspence.
As Anashvi said they can show her to be mentally ill or not show her to be that but unless they show her her mentally ill we have to assume that Maya wasn't that and was just buri basis the statement of the doctor in the court

If Maya is indeed a psycho who can not control her mind to listen to her, whenever she gets provoked, then Saanjh would not have survived this long!
Saanjh is in Maya's life blocking or hindering her love for Arjun now, for how long?
It is almost 10 plus years, since they all met for the very first time!
If she could knock off a nameless Pandit in Mauritius for just giving a few words of advice to Arjun -within an hour of their meeting, Saanjh who was constantly advising her duffer, could not have survived this longer!

Maya is not a genuine psycho who goes ballistically in a controlled or even uncontrolled manner!
May be, she is simply an inefficient loose cannon which only fires randomly off-target, as she has failed miserably to catch her main enemy-Saanjh- literally by her throat, to squeeze her 'sans' or make her go out of breath - as her number one priority in life, to safeguard her love interest!

If she is an intelligent woman but at the same time a ruthless psycho, this would have happened a long long time back!
