Beyhadh review: Jennifer Winget and Kushal Tandon's show is engrossing
There are very few shows on TV that have a scale as impressive as the movies. Beyhadh is one of them. While watching it, you can't help but admire the grandeur and the gloss. Also, it is a visual treat, given the kind of actors it has - Jennifer Winget, Kushal Tandon andAneri Vajani.

Plot: Beyhadh, which premiered on Dussehra, October 11, is a romantic thriller and chronicles the lives of Maya (Jennifer Winget), Arjun (Kushal Tandon) and Saanjh (Aneri Vajani). The first episode begins with Ganesh Chaturthi, and shows Saanjh and Arjun as best friends. The two are close to each other, yet share different dreams. While Arjun wants to be rich and famous, Saanjh is content with her life.

Maya's world, however, is not as simple as theirs. It's rather complicated, wherein she has to deal with the troubled relationship of her parents. This also makes her steer clear of relationships and live a guarded life.

Interestingly, Maya and Arjun's paths cross and the two meet at a parking lot. Arjun is headed for an interview, not knowing that Maya is the boss. His perception of Maya as a strong-headed woman, afraid of none is only true on the surface. In the next episode, she is shown to be scared as a man (not revealed yet) is shown to be walking towards her.

Direction and Script: Even though the show has an interesting premise (it is a saga of obsessive love), it remains to be seen if it could work with a plot that has limited scope. The premiere episode was intriguing, and scenes from Maya's personal life keep you engaged and wondering as to what could possibly be so wrong in her life. The way the scenes shift swiftly is also interesting. And the city looks beautiful, drenched in the city lights.

Actors: Jennifer Winget steals the show with her silent yet stoic act. She does justice to the role and creates mystery around this woman, making you want to know more about her. Aneri is convincing in her part. She makes her character relatable, and comes as a breather on the show.

Kushal Tandon is a hero in his part, but we would like to see him more as an actor. He plays it cool on the show though. It is the actors that render the show the enigma that it has. The cast also comprises Imran Khan, Kavita Ghai, Rajesh Khattar and Sharad Vyas.

Beyhadh has just begun. It looks promising so far. And it remains to be seen how Maya will transform and how her love will become so beyhadh that it crosses all boundaries of rationality.

The show airs at 9 pm on Sony Entertainment Television.
