C for Challenges.
(Unrelated to the previous drabble/os)
Aliya Ghulam Haider and Zain Usman Abdullah had shared a hate-hate relationship from times immemorial.
Both harboured bitter feelings towards each other. And both were convinced that their hate will remain strong forever.
When she was three,he four, he had challenged her to walk on the wall.
She did and broke her arm.
When he was seven, she six, she challenged him to steal the toffee from their Ramu kaka's shop.
He did and received thrashing from his mom.
She enjoyed the sweets.
He pulled on her pigtails, she tripped him.
He teased her mercilessly, she slapped him.
So now that it was established that their relationship was purely a hate-hate one from both their sides, he wondered why he felt so uncomfortable when he learned about her first crush.
He challenged to break up with her boyfriend, she did.
She cried for a whole week before deciding boy's weren't worth crying on.
She too wondered at the feelings she felt when she looked at him when she was seventeen.
Surely the smile that had spread on both their faces when they were together never indicated any hate.
Soon it turned into a frown when he introduced his girlfriend.
He had challenged her to challenge him.
She withdrew for the first time.
Maybe they had forgotten the smaller challenges which conveyed love rather than hate.
When she had broken her arm,he had challenged her not to cry.
When he had received the thrashing, she had challenged him to eat the sweet.
When she broke up with her boyfriend, who,he knew was cheating on her,he had challenged her to the movies.
He had challenged her to eat food when she went through her 'anorexic' mood.
She had challenged him to study harder when he failed his subject.
Both had challenged each other to smile when down, to laugh when they felt like crying.
Both had unknowingly, looked after each other.
So maybe, enemies wasn't the right word.
She realised she did not hate him the minute she saw his girlfriend.
He realised he didn't when she did not challenge him.
His proposal was quite unique.
He had called her upon the terrace where he used to challenge her to come and count stars with him.
He did not go down on his knees or something.
No,that was too cliche.
"Mamu ki bhaji?"
He had said. They were lying side by side, looking at the sprinkle of handful of stars across the velvety sky.
"Hmm?"
"Ek aur challenge."
She groaned but said "I'm listening."
"Soch lo. Bahut bada challenge hain."
She scoffed.
"Have I ever backed down from your challenges kitkit.?"
He did not reply.
"Toh challenge kya hai?"
He proped his head on his arm and said-
"Mamu ki Bhanji, I challenge you to-"
He paused.
She raised an eyebrow.
"To marry me."

So simple.
This is a bit different from how I usually write.
Never written in third person.
So healthy critisism is heartily welcome.
Please don't cite adjectives. I love it when you give me essays to read.
So, I challenge you to give a long review π
