Zain had his earphones plugged in his ears and the volume at maximum.
The sole reason was his parents were home.
And they were together.
He could hear their voice creeping from under his door still.
And dinner was a horrible affair.
His heart never felt so heavy.
Why did they have to come now? He thought bitterley.
Couldn't they wait for another two months? My results would have been out and I could have escaped somewhere.
Tears pooled in his eyes and he tried to stop them but in vain.
Couldn't he have a normal household? With happy and in-love parents who could be aand would be proud of their children?!
Couldn't they love each other till he had another sibling? He thought in desperation.
Times like these was where he missed her the most.
Aliya. He decided to call her but then changed his mind.
Atleast let her enjoy. Why make others miserable.
His heart ached for her.
Suddenly his phone rang.
"Aliya calling" it said.
An involuntary smile crept over his face.
He picked up.
"Hello?" He said breathlessly.
"Kitkit, you at home right?"
"Yeah, why?"
"Come down no."
"What? Aren't you in some relatives house for some relatives wedding thingy?"
"Engagement you duffer." He could sense her rolling her eyes.
"I escaped the clutches of those dreaded aunties. Zubair helped me."
"What?" Zain exclaimed. "Zubbu knows about our relati-"
"Come down Zain" she said, her voice stern.
"Are you planning on freezing me to death?"
"Coming, coming" he muttered as he searched for his hoodie before realising Aliya has it.
"She is her own enemy." He muttered as he crept down the stairway and opened the ground floor balcony and jumped down.
"Aliya" he whispered into the night.
"I am here."
He felt a pair of cold but familar hands in his.
"What are you doing here? Does Zubair know?"
"I was bored. All they could ask was weather I cracked mains. Hell, let the exam take place baba, then only I can crack it right? Bonkers, these aunties are, I tell you. And zubair? Oh he is one clueless person" she giggled.
"He went off to meet Natasha" she scrunched her nose letting him know she didn't approve.
Zain smiled at her rant. Those rants which he found annoying at first. Those rants which he found cute now.
He blinked his eyes to adjust to the darkness.
"Come to my home, no one is there."
"Inviting me to your place huh Haider? What are your intentions with me?"
He could tell she knew his teasing was half hearted.
She twisted his ear.
"Khala is at home. And I don't have any intentions with you. Its just-"
She struggled to find an excuse.
"Its just, we hadn't had much time together lately. I miss you. "
She clung on to his arm.
"I missed you too." He murmered into her hair.
More than you can imagine. He added in his head.
When they reached her room, she switched on her lights.
He whistled when he saw her wearing a lehega.
And he could have sworn he saw her blush.
"Khala or not, I dont think I can stop myself tonight." He said, pulling her closer by her bare waist.
"Aah" she squeled and jumped away.
"Your hands are cold."
He laughed.
"I'll go change and come."
He nodded and closed the door.
As he sat on her oversized bed, he thought about their relationship like he had for the past one week from when their vacations started.
And 'liking' her was a word too meek, he had concluded.
She came out wearing his hoodie and her bunny pj's, her hair in a bun, light traces of makeup on her face.
"I am going to need that" he said pointing at his hoodie.
"Yeah, good luck with that." She snorted.
He rolled her eyes as she came and sat on his lap.
He hugged her tightly and rocked her.
"I really missed you" she murmured into his neck.
"I missed you too." He said and made her face him.
She cupped his face and pecked his brow then his nose and finally kissed his lips.
And his heart melted like a lump of white chocolate.
Their lips danced a well-rehersed dance with each other as she murmered-
"Zain? I have something to say."
"Hmm?" He said as he broke the kiss.
"I- actually, I wanted to" she.let out a defeated sigh.
"Actually, I think I" she tried again but failed.
She bit her lip and tried to concentrate.
Zain let out a soft laugh at that.
"Tell me in the morning?"
She nodded and he smiled.
They talked about nothing and everything all night with the ocassional make out session in between. And not to mention their usual teasing.
And when finally dawn cracked, Aliya yawned.
"You should go to sleep" said Zain.
"Huh-uh" she said, yawning yet again.
He picked her up in his arms and laid her down on her side of bed.
He kissed her forehead and covered her with her blanket.
He glanced towards his house. The lights were still on.
He sighed heavily and switched off her bedside lamp.
"Goodnight babe" he muttered.
"Zain?" She called out drowsily.
"Ya?"
"Sleep with me tonight?"
He stared at her affectionately.
She patted the expanse of bed beside her.
He smiled and climbed the bed and slipped under the covers.
"Goodnight." She said, as she drifted of to sleep.
He said nothing.
Cause his silence said it all.
Because he knew she loved weddings.
Because he knew she knew his parents were.home.
Because he knew she cared for him.
Because he knew she would always be there for him.
And I think I just might be falling for you.
He smiled as too dozed of to a peaceful slumber in the arms of his love.
