Chapter 14
Zain saw a chaos infront of the house across the street.. where sarah, sammy live. He decided to look out to their house a while later.
He had just pulled his car onto the curb before his house. Zain convinced ayaan that he needed to chill it out a little, so taking all the grocery bags with him .. he sent ayaan to have some drinks in a bar.. to relax a little.
He was about to open his backdoor and reach out for the pile of bags... when his eyes fell upon a little someone running towards the streets, after a few moments zain could figure out who it was... sammy. He looked at the boy's tear stricken... scared.. pale gone face.. and he knew that something was wrong with their family. Zain looked around sammy to see if that cute sister of his was around... but no.. he couldnt see her anywhere. It pricked zain as he knew that sarah was seen most of the time with sammy... the twins were almost inseperable.
Zain found his feets dragging himself towards sammy in a quick run, he knelt down before the trembling boy.
Zain: " What happened buddy ?? Tell me.. Everyone alright in there... ?? "
Zain watched sammy abruptly rub his little palms over his red face wiping the tears before making his expressions look as firm as he could. Sammy was struggling to hold it together... zain watched amazed, it was so unlike and difficult for a five years old.
Sammy opened his mouth to say something but couldn't form a proper sentence with his trembling lips.
Sammy: " Sarah.. there.. mommy.. sarah.. "
He almost chocked and pointed his forefinger backwards towards the backyard.
Tilting his head zain looked from above sammy's head at where he was pointing at and tried processing what he was trying to say. And without wasting a single moment holding sammy's hand he ran towards their backyard.
Smoke coming out of an open window and flahses of orange flames.. caught his eyes. He didnt realise when sammy was tugging at his jeans desperately and sobbing loudly now, the scared kid had lost all his strength at that moment.
Deliberately like a deja vu... flashes of the burning motel began playing before zain's widened eyes. It was this fire which had announced the end of his search for aaliya six years ago. It was this fire which had snatched aaliya away from his reach... to a place so far.. he couldnt go beyond to search for her anymore. Six years back infront of such blazing flames.. zain for the first time bowed down his head to his own feelings and the light this fire had iluminated in his heart made him see the love he had been denying to accept from a long time. Realisation was what dawned upon him that night and gone was the immature.. scum.. old zain, instead a broken man with a hollow heart was born from the ashes.
Sammy: " Mommyyy.. bring my mommy... sarah... come back... "
Sammy's panicked voice brought him out of his reverie and he looked down at the usual brave boy almost shrinking in his own invisible shell in pure unmistakable fear.
Zain shook sammy by his shoulders, this was not the time to break down thinking about the past.
Zain: " Stay strong here sammy, I want you to wait here huh... I am going to bring back sarah and your mommy... stay right here... "
He watched sammy biting his lower lip hard trying hard to gulp down another blow of tears and nodding his head.
Zain stood up to see the pipe and the next moment he was climbing it. Reashing beside the window he saw the curtains on fire, entering his one foot first he jumped inside in an abrupt speed to avoid the fire as much as he could. Instantly terrible heavy smoke surrounded him and clutched at his lungs brutally. Coughing violently he tried to look through the blinding smoke, he could hear sounds of coughs from his left side. He took a few careful step towards that direction, someone was sitting down over there slumping against the door he guessed. he could clearly still see though.
Taking steps carefully .. one after another and... he finally reached close to the person slumped to the floor against the door. He watched sarah clinging to that person.. womans chest... hugging her with all her force.
His eyes travelled up to the woman's face and everything just paused around... it felt like the earth had stopped spinning for a moment and the whole universe was holding down its breath with anticipation. He took in that familiar face... those ever so soft lips now trembling... that little nose with a stain of greese now... and those marvellous eyes gazing back at him. There was shock and disbelief in those eyes and he knew that his own eyes held the same things too.
Not being able to believe his own eyes... his own sanity... zain felt his lungs declining all the air pumped into it and he droped down on his knees before her.. his knees hit the floor so hard that he was sure.. the skin over there had obviously gone punctured.
It was like history repeating itself, six years back zain.. in this very same position lost aaliya... and at the same time he realised that whom he had lost was his soulmate. His soul died that night.
And now... as he knelt down before her, zain's souls stirred up to life once again after what seemed like a century had passed by.
The way his heart swelled with emotions.. it made him hard to believe of this was all real. Was it really aaliya he was looking at ?? Or a game his own brain was playing with him ??
He heard her mumble his name in a shocked.. chocking voice...
" Z.. za.. zain.. !! "
And that was the moment zain knew that it was all real, aaliya was real... and that he had found her when he had least expected it. But it had happened...
He threw his arms around her and snatched her in a bone crushing hug.. making sarah sandwiched between their bodies. The little scared girl squirmed between them.
Aaliya and zain... both were crying, aaliya was still holding sarah tightly in her arms while zain almost sucked her in like a blackhole in his embrace. Zain's stbbled jaw was pressed against aaliya cheeks.. when he whispered in her ears with a lump in his throat...
" I had searched for you like a crazy aaliya... everyone said you were... we.. I thought... "
Zain pasued for second before speaking again, this time his voice heavy in passion... it sounded like a demand and pleading both at once...
" Never leave me again... never... "
With that aaliya's whole body stiffed, she couldnt help but to recall the flashes of that in the arms of this very man. She had given all of her to him only to get back her heart completely broken in the morning.. in the most cruel way. She tried to squirm away pulling her self a little back from his body and sarah too whimpered clinging to her chest.
The next moment she found herself being lifted up a little and placed a little away from the door. Zain now stood up abruptly and was thrashing the door with his shoulder... but that wasn't helping. So he distanced himself a little away from the door and threw a couple of kicks on it.. forcing it to swung open.
At the same moment fire fighters were coming in from everywhere. Carrying sarah in her arms aaliya stood up and staggered out the door, zain was beside her in a dash. He lifted his hands to give sarah to him.
Aaliya glared at his hands before taking a few immediate steps back, her face now panicked. Zain scruched his brows in confusion.
By then some cops and paramedics ushered them down... out in the open. They were immediately checked for injuries. Thankfully there were no major injuries to any of them instead of some minor cuts.
Aaliya was still clutching onto sarah, refusing to let her go. Zain's eyes were not leaving aaliya... not for second, he was still in a state shock.. when a person looses their logical thinking process.
It was only when yelling out " mommy ".. in the most desperate and heart wrenching way... sammy ran towards aaliya and she held the two kids in her arms sobbing... as if they were her most prized possessions, everything suddenly started clicking into zain's brain.
Now it was zain who took a staggering step backwards. Sarah and sammy.. they were aaliya's children, aaliya was there mother. Realisation hit him like a fiery comet descended from the heavens.
Looking at the two most beutiful kids in aaliya's protective grip.. in her embrace, zain felt all the bones of his body twisting in near non existence. Each and evey fibre of his being shouting with a millions of piercing... heavy questions.

Tucking sarah and sammy in the large duvet, aaliya quitely slipped off the bed to stand beside the window in the unfamiliar room. They were not to pass this night in their house, emergency services would be checking it out for any major damages in the structure of the house.. water syetem... gas and electric wires or lines. A short circuit in a wire in the bathroom was the cause of this mess.. she had been informed.
Savanah had been apologizing and crying feeling guilty over the whole thing. But aaliya made her understand that it was an accident... it was no one's fault. Then savanah started blaming her badluck and aaliya didnt know anymore how she could sooth the old woman. So when savanah insisted her to stay the night in her house with the kids, aaliya couldnt deny. Actually she didnt even have any option. It had already been so late at night, if not about her own.. she had to think about two little children.. who were still a little scared.. shaken up because of the whole chaos and were looking extremely tired.
Aaliya sighed resting her throbbing temple against the wooden frame of the window. She was suddenly feeling so numb.. cold. The gate opened up in her mind and brain.. and those haunted devastating memories from the past were let out from their detention. The reason was something she never imagined she would have to surface again in her life.
Zain... the moment she saw her.. she witnessed her wounds getting digged with a pin again and she amusedly realised that those wounds.. she thought were healed.. weren't actually healed. They were just hidden behind the thick and unbreakable wall she had created over the years.
And when his arms surrounded around her... aaliya opened her eyes suddenly as she stared out the window to the faint light outside on the streets. She trembled literally remebering of his warm embrace, because of disgust or somehing else... she didn't know. She was way too exhausted to scutinize that.
When zain had slipped out of the crowd aaliya didnt realise. She saw him from the corner of her eyes gawking at her before sammy ran towards her and she gave her complete attention to the kids. And after a while when she looked back.. he was gone. That didnt make her sad.. that didnt make her happy either. She was suddely too numb to let any kind of feelings consume her. Because she knew.. if she did.. she would start crumbling down and that was what she couldnt let happen.
From sarah and sammy's chatting about the new hero in the neighborhood... she got to know that the famous mr. stranger was none other than zain himself. This information added to the list of continuous blows aaliya was recieving since she saw zain and made it more clear to her.. that the biggest demon from her past was back in her life.
She had to hold it strong.. stand her ground. For her children.. she had to stay strong. Zain abdullah wouldnt be able to break her this time. Last time he took her everything and threw back her broken heart right at her face... not this time.
She diverted her gaze from outside the window and looked at the darker part of the room.. to the bed.. where her twin angels were sleeping not knowing what storm had just entered in their lives.
