So Sunday is almost over and I have just gotten over my lazy-weekend-spell to put down my thoughts for the episode. Probably won't be too detailed since I watched the episode on Friday itself but there are a few things I do remember so will probably rant about those. 😆
The first thing I should probably point out it the significant increase in pace in Friday's episode! I mean they showed more progress in Friday's episode than they did in the past three episodes combined! 😆 Had I known my ultimatum would be taken so seriously, I'd have issued on far sooner.. 😆 There was NO Desho in the episode and after 9 some episodes of her, I am definitely glad for the break!
Coming to Sohum's conversation with Ghuggi, while I initially had my doubts about the whole thing, having seen it now I can definitely see Sohum's logic behind it.. I may not agree with it but I can definitely understand it. He is so sure that he WILL get married to Bani and so driven in his need to keep her from all harm/sadness that he doesn't want her to even for a second worry/fear the uncertainty her future may hold. He doesn't want her to worry about being abandoned my her husband or to have her dreams about a world where marriage to an NRI will solve all her family problems be shattered. And I do think that a part of him doesn't want her to question HIM eventually when he does get that visa and proposes to her - he doesn't want her to look at him as the NRI who may leave her behind but rather as the one she had been waiting for to come by and fix all her problems. And as naive as that may be, I can understand his thought process.
I found it hilarious that Bani just took it upon herself to FIND THE TRUTH about Sohum's relationship with Rano. I mean, if a person acted with me like Sohum did with Bani upon the mention of Rano, I would take that as a hint that he does NOT want that part of his life pried into and would leave it alone. But not our detective Bani, oh no! She takes it as an open invitation to find out WHY Sohum is keeping this from her (because clearly the man can't or isn't allowed to hide anything from her - God forbid he has any secrets or personal issues he'd like to keep to himself.. 😆) and goes as far as to FOLLOW him to find the truth.. LOL!!! 🤣 I would understand if they were friends or even CORDIAL to each other that Bani would like to know why Sohum's lying but after the way Sohum has been distant with her I don't get why she would think it is okay for her to try to dig into parts of his life he clearly wants to keep personal. Because it's not like she didn't understand that he didn't want to discuss it - oh no, she got that and she even told Rajji that.. But she just felt that she HAD to find out why he wasn't telling her the truth and what it was he was hiding..? *shakes head* Why Bani jee..? Why?
LOL @ Rajji's apologetic rant by the river (and what a GORGEOUS river it is.. Seriously! ) and later on at her disappointment for not being able to follow "apna Sohum" even though SHE suggested it.. 😆😆😆 Oh Rajji! 😆
Which brings be to the main highlight of Friday's episode.. Rano. Navni Parihar did an AMAZING job portraying Rano's resignation while she was going about her daily duties and transition from that to the portrayal of an almost URGENT hope that grew in Rano at the mention of the railway station and (what she thought was her) dulha. The minute Bani mentioned the "groom", Rano immediately assumed it was her Balbir jee that was being spoken about and from there made the desperate connect that Bani was here to TAKE her to him. Rano definitely reacted like a women who had been WAITING for twenty years, a woman who was so absolutely driven by her HOPE that her wait had to end that she would grasp on to ANY sign (no matter how futile) that suggested the end was near. And so just the mere mention of a "dulha" sent her in a frenzy where she dragged Bani all the way to her abode and was ready to head out even while Bani was trying to tell her that wasn't the case.. It was like Rano just didn't WANT to hear that it wasn't true - that she was mistaken. Because for her to realize that the wait will never end, for her to accept that her husband won't return means that the PAST twenty years of her life have been a waste - the wait and the embarrassment and the anger from her family that she has lived through for the past twenty hears were for no purpose.. And I think at this point to NOT wait and to NOT hope is harder than the facade of waiting and pretending that he WILL return.
Also, it seems like Rano's family had also gotten her married off to an NRI so that they could all go abroad - which is ironically what Desho is trying to do with Bani i.e. use her to get a supposedly better life style. And when Rano's husband deserted her, it seems that her family blamed her and severed all ties with her.. That breaks my heart.. That breaks my heart because not only was she going through such a terribly difficult time in her (if it can be called that) marriage, her family who was supposed to support her and love her through it all ALSO blamed her for it! And so it was no wonder that the minute she saw even a flicker of reprieve from it all - the chance that Balbir jee might be back - she was so overwhelmed with the HOPE that she just couldn't stop herself from venting about it all.. About how long she had waited (twenty years since the day of that cricket match), how her family had severed ties with her, how she'd been ready for her husband with her bags packed since the day he had left.. And while it may have looked like she was saying all this for Bani, it really felt like it was more for HERSELF than for Bani's ears. Like more than letting Bani know about her life, Rano was telling HERSELF that the wait was over - that the decades of seemingly endless torture were not at and END and that she made it to the other end! *sigh* And at that time even I really wanted her husband to be back - for Bani to some how perpetuate this lie a little more.. Because I just didn't want to see her hopes be shattered AGAIN by the truth.. Oh it was such an amazing performance by Navni! Seriously! 👏
And while Bani was a little overwhelmed by Rano's frenzy and refusal to listen to the truth, Sohum really behaved like a man who had seen this happen far to many times and was used to dealing with it. The way he pulled back after Rano tried to grab him to let him know that he was lying about her husband not being back.. It was like he knew that the only way to break her trance was by PHYSICALLY resisting the tidal wave of denial she had about her.. And that the only way to reach her was by FORCING her into seeing what is right - that her husband isn't there and that Bani didn't know him at all. But once Rano breaks down in frustration, he is just as quick to console her and facilitate her hopes no matter how futile it may seem - because like I said, at this point in her life, it is easier for Rano to just go on HOPING than to realize that her situation is hopeless. Because while she is USED to the waiting (being as painful as that it is), she may not be able to HANDLE the fact that she has nothing to wait for. And so as soon as she makes her realize that TODAY her husband isn't here, he is quick to assure her that he will be there TOMORROW.. So she can go on hoping and living, as best she can in this situation.
Special mention: I really liked the shot of Sohum standing silently along Bani while she tried to deal with the overwhelming emotions she felt upon meeting Rano and seeing her.. While Bani cried for Rano's fate and then inevitably wondered about hers in the future, I liked seeing Sohum just standing there silently BY her side.. As if to say he was THERE even though she didn't seem to need him at the moment or realize that he was even there for her.. That he'd be there always, just in case she might one day turn to him and decide to use his shoulder to cry on and find comfort/support in (metaphorically). I liked that a lot.
Precap seems to show a bit more of Bani's uncertainty regarding marrying an NRI now after meeting Rano.. Lets see how that plays out of if that will even make a difference in the long run - if Bani will actually listen to her doubts or just silence them and go on doing what she feels is best for the family..
P.S. This was definitely not short.. Turns out I can remember a lot when I get in the zone of things.. 😆😆
