Neelambari, I am sure they were trying to show Jeeva's love, but agreeing for sex before marriage is not the way to do it. Agreed, in the US and many other countries in the West, this is not a big deal, but as far as Indian parents in the US go, definitely the ones I know, it is a big deal. Even here in the US, I know American couples who decide to postpone sex until after marriage, so we, who boast of a rich cultural heritage, should not discard our values, in an attempt to seem more modern.
I did not watch the episode so I do not know exactly what transpired, but the description itself made me feel uncomfortable.
Hey ejay, I agree with what you say. I just wanted to stress the point that these scenes might not be really disgusting for those who do not know about our culture or who do not live according to our culture. So the descrption of the scene alone was sufficient to bring a distaste towards this serial for many (for me even before).
Many children of their indian parents do deviate from the norm to portrait themselves as westernized. I have lots of living examples to show you how these people feel relieved when they are far away from their parents and do whatever they want. That's why I told you that showing these scenes again and again will definitely get into the minds of our people one day which shouldn't happen, but on the other hand, people who are very strong in their values will just ignore this.
I was just saying that if we all are strong enough to stick to our traditions, this scene isn't a big deal for us. so why do we have to care about it. on the other hand, being a representation of today's youth (I guess most of them in the forum!!!) this is not the right way to teach your kids and it becomes our responsibility to voice against these which we have been doing so far.
