[Episode 242] January 17th, 2017
- "RAJNI! Rajni, ruk jaao! " "MOBO, ruko! Wahin pe ruko!" "Hello, Shaan." "Arrey, Raj- Yaar, neeche utro!" "OK!" Rajni moves forward, poised to step off the terrace. Shaan is already freaking out and this sends him into full-blown panic mode. "Nahi nahi nahi nahi nahi! Terrace se neeche utro! Matlab peeche jaao, peeche jaao! Arrey, aage pair rakhogi, toh neeche girogi! Rajni, go back! Go back!" Oh, I love this! Shaan is not just pareshaan anymore, he is also panicked, protective Shaan!
- "Rajani! Kya soch kar tumne Mrs. Chatterjee ko -" Maggie cuts in, "Nahi, Mummyji. Mrs. Banerjee!" Even Sharmila is confused about this. Amazing. From the sidelines, Shogu amends, "Mom, Mukherjee!" LOL, this is the SAME order as last time! Surili looks at her daughter, asking in an undertone, "Final hai?" Shogu replies with a look that says, "Yes, of course it's final! Shogata is telling you!" She has a sharp memory, that is very, very clear!
- Surili's "Shut up, Maggie! Shut up, Sharmila!" mix-up elicits a facepalm from Shogu and confused reactions from the bahus in question. In the middle of all this, Ram asks Shaan to do something, anything, to save Rajni. It's worth noting that Ram calls Shaan "Papa" and he receives a normal reply. Progress!
- Amrish arrives to speak up on behalf of his bahus. "Aapki himmat kaise hui meri bahuon ke baare mein anaab-shanaab bolan di?!" Mrs. Mukherjee is so rude and this is a fitting reply from Amrish. I expected no less from him. What I didn't expect was to see Shogu looking offended at the insults to her sisters-in-law and nodding her head in dignified agreement at her father's outburst. The girl has a heart. I keep saying this, and she keeps proving it in these little ways!
- If Shogu is on one side of the room providing a silent running commentary with only her expressions, then Ram and Shaan are on the other side, literally commentating from the sidelines. "Papa...Yeh toh gadbad ho gayi." "Isse gadbad nahi kehte, isse bawaal kehte hai, bawaal." Shaan's favorite word. Bawaal. Shaan shakes his head, "Aur yahan iss ghar mein, sab ka confidence Himalaya se bhi ooncha hai." Ram's skeptical eyebrow raise after Shaan says this - and Shaan's wryly amused head shake at his mother's melodramatics - this baap-beta duo is so great!
- Shaan is in a perpetual state of being pareshaan now, and Rajni's malfunctions are not helping. "Har baat ka jawaab hai, na, tumhare paas?" "Well, almost." True that, haha. Shaan grimaces. "Kuch nahi hoga tumhara, Rajni. Aise hi raho tum!" Ram frowns, slightly dejected. It's interesting that he's not all up in arms about what Shaan has just said to Rajni. Before, he would've thrown a tantrum or pleaded with Shaan to get Rajni fixed. But now, it's like Ram knows that Shaan is willing to fix Rajni...but his MOBO has made a bit of a mess and his CPU doesn't even have spare lenses to use anyway.
- "Uh-oh! Mera kuch nahi ho sakta?" Shaan rolls his eyes. "That means main aise hi rahoongi? Mujhe kuch nazar nahi aayega? Main Mummyji ko competition jeetne mein kaise madad kar paaoongi?" This is Rajni's version of a dramatic lament. Granted, it's very cute, but neither Shaan nor Ram is in the frame of mind to smile right now. Shaan shakes his head irritably. "Papa bhi, na! Jo kasar baaki thi, woh inhone poori kar di hai!" Ram is concerned, too. "Papa. Meri MOBO ke liye nahi, lekin aapki MOBO ke - mere kehne ka matlab hai, aapki mummy ke liye meri MOBO ko theek kardo na!" Ram is thinking about his Daadi's reputation, bless!
- "Lens hote, toh main laga deta isse!" "Yaad kijiye. Ek zamaana tha jab aap genius hua karte the, genius!" Awww, Ram! I love this kid so much! And he reminds me of both Shaan AND Dev here! "Genius tha - jaadugar nahi!" Sassmaster Shaan is the best Shaan. I love Pareshaan, of course, but Sassmaster Shaan is too much fun, especially when he's poker-faced and 100% done with all of the problems in his life.
- Oooh, robot repairs! One of the most wonderful things to come out of the 5-year leap has been the fact that Shaan, Dev, and Ram all know about Rajni being a robot. With Ram aware of his MOBO's true nature, there has been a lot more freedom to show Rajni's robotic antics not only in dramatic situations, but also in mundane situations. As a child who has grown up seeing his Dev Mamu repairing his MOBO's glitches, Ram is used to all of this. To a certain extent, he understands what's going on, and he tries to help as much as he can. That is the basis of his rapport with Shaan - and how beautiful is it that this child has brought out the scientist in Shaan again? *sigh* It is so heartwarming!
