Dwelling on the Details: Midnight Rendezvous and Pregnancy Issues

[Episode 106] July 11th, 2016

- "Ab yeh bina sangeet ke sangeet kursi ka khel khel liya gaya hoye..." LOL, Amrish! Musical chairs without music! I also love Dhyaan's snarky aside to Ghyaan, a modification of his prior commentary! "Yeh dekho! Gopiyaan badal gayi lekin Kanhaiya abhi bhi beech mein hai!" These Kant guys are so freaking hilarious! Dhyaan is so irreverent in this situation and it's quite funny to see his dry wit surfacing against his elder brother now! #TeamRajni

- "Isse kaise pata?" Ghyaan, that is a very good question, thank you. "Isse sab pata hai." More deadpan sarcasm from Dhyaan? There's a grain of truth in his reply, based on Shaan's genius status and massive ego. I love the way Dhyaan says this line, though, because Shaan may believe that he knows everything, but there's no denying that he's seriously, seriously conflicted right now. Shaan doesn't know what he wants. Also, over the past 3 years, did Samaira have any regrets about dumping Shaan? From the way she looks at him when asked about marriage, I can't help but wonder...what's the deal?

- Shaan and Shogata, so similar yet so different. I used to think that Shogu was the only one out of the Kant siblings who threw childish tantrums with a pout, but no, Shaan is right up there, possibly higher on the list now. Such a baby, refusing to eat the fish that has been set on the table. He whines about eating bangda because it has too many bones - and Shogu immediately pipes up from the sidelines to oppose him, expressing her approval of the fish. "This is so delicious!" Bengali vibes! Thank god for Surili and Shogata. Their reactions to this entire dinner and all the resulting awkwardness are completely in line with my own reactions. Pallaviji and Neha and their fabulously expressive faces! Love them!

- Amrish and Surili's conversation about a man's pehla pyaar. To quote Surili..."Interesting!" I was always curious about their past, but this revelation about Dilpreet comes as a surprise to everyone, Surili included, haha! Yikes, what an unfortunate time to let that secret out of the bag! It's wonderful to see Surili's jealousy rearing its head at the fact that Amrish remembers pretty much everything about the girl he first fell in love with so many years ago. It's even more wonderful to see Amrish's devotion to Surili. She may not have been the first woman he loved, but he has loved her for so very long, and he still does. In spite of her snobbish attitude, in spite of her temper and ever-changing moods, he loves her. And regardless of what she may say about his humble roots and his middle-class morals and values - which I think are very good things, by the way - she loves him, too. Watching Amrish and Surili together makes me wonder what Dev and Shogata will be like if they manage to overcome their issues and stay together, too.

- A point of irony that I hope will ultimately turn into an element of foreshadowing is this...Amrish staunchly believes that Shaan is deeply and madly in love with Rajni. He attempts to drive away Surili's apprehensions that Samaira's presence will drive a wedge in Shaan-Rajni's marriage. In theory, Shaan is married and happily so, therefore Samaira staying back in their house should make no difference at all to Shaan or Rajni. If only they knew the reality, which couldn't be further from what Amrish thinks...For all of a father's positive thinking, there are things that a mother can see and feel...and Surili has seen the warning signs in her son's behavior already.

- Sharmila has no respect for Maggie at all, which is quite sad. Even Samaira seems surprised at her cousin's blatant refusal to include Maggie in their stroll around the garden. Ouch! I feel awful for Maggie, and to be honest, the more I see her now, the more fond I grow of her. She has been taunted for being a bit dim and slow on the uptake, but the woman really does have a good heart and good intentions. She cares for her family, which is something I cannot say about Sharmila. And so, Maggie takes it upon herself to give Rajni some advice. Become the sort of wife who keeps her husband under control, otherwise he'll leave you for someone else. Maggie bets that Shaan will sneak into Samaira's room like a thief in the night. "Aisa koi pati nahi hai jo phislu types nahi hota!" I sincerely hope that this doesn't apply to every marriage out there! But in this particular case, with Shaan, Rajni, and Samaira...Let me just say that Rajni's faith in Shaan is commendable. The poor, naive robot doesn't know that her husband is going to let her down...I didn't expect that from him, either. But he let me down, too.

- Shaan is busy blaming Dev for losing the memory chip. He's throwing stuff all over the lab, knocking down things out of anger. How does he expect to find anything in that mess?! Bewakoof Scientist! "Memory chip de ke galti ki! Nahi! Dost bana ke galti ki! Lab mein ghusne diya, galti ki!" He's frustrated, he's ranting, I get it. But this habit of blaming Dev for everything is starting to get to me. Dev lost the chip, true. But what is the need to bring the foundation of their friendship into it? Oh, he's not thinking straight right now. That's right. Humans say a lot of nonsense when they're angry. But Shaan's alter ego is on my side. "Dev ko kya kos raha hai, pagle? Tu bhi toh kahan sambhaal ke rakh paaya apna dil?"

- "Paagal main nahi, tu ho gaya hai, bachche. Samaira ke pyaar mein." Shaan's alter ego, in all white, contrasts starkly with the real Shaan, clad in shades of gray. Shaan's alter ego appeared once earlier, to warn Shaan about the complications of marrying Rajni. He appears again now, to urge Shaan to find out how Samaira feels about him. It's quite hilarious how he presents the very valid logic about the futility of expecting anything emotionally-fulfilling from a relationship with a robot. It's true that such a relationship would be one-sided, if Rajni cannot feel emotions in any way. That takes me back to my questions about Rajni's capacity to feel...but that's a topic to be discussed some other time, hopefully later when it is addressed in the show more clearly. I love Shaan's alter ego. This is the part of Shaan's mind that is pushing him towards clarity, little by little. It's necessary for Shaan to confront Samaira about the residual feelings he has for her and to find out if there is any space left in her life for him as anything more than an ex-boyfriend and childhood friend. Samaira may or may not have moved on, but it is crystal clear that Shaan has not. He needs to free himself from any emotional ties to Samaira in order to move forward into the future. Right now, he's still stuck in the past. He believes he's been moving forward all this time, but that couldn't be further from the truth of his reality.

- Maggie Bhabhi was right. Shaan does sneak into Samaira's room like a thief in the night. He then proceeds to speak to her. "Thank god tum waapas aa gayi. Nahi toh mujhe lagta hai main toh akela hi reh jaata...Shaadi toh main tumse karna chahta hoon." In all of this so far, one thing stands out. Not once does Shaan express that he is still in love with Samaira. It's all about himself. His loneliness, his needs, his desire to be with her again. Thank god you came back, because I was alone. And I won't be alone anymore. As if they had a little fight just yesterday and now she's back and everything's all going to be okay now. And what about those things Shaan said to Rajni about him being incomplete and akela when she would leave him? I understand that Shaan is a solitary soul and he probably desperately craves companionship...but this is not the way to go about expressing that...especially to an ex-girlfriend who believes that he is happily married to a lovely wife who just lost her memory on their honeymoon. In the dead of night, too. Nope, not the best way to go about this.

- "Rajni toh meri -" Before Shaan can get as much as another syllable out, he's knocked backwards by a slap so forceful that it's a wonder his jaw didn't break. She could have knocked him into the wall if she wanted to - but I think she should save her power in case things get worse. Hopefully they won't after this, but who knows? Rajni's eyes are blazing and her body language is tense, like a coiled spring. One wrong word from Shaan, and Rajni will snap again. "Tum yahan kya kar rahi ho?!" "GALAT sawaal! Sahi sawaal toh yeh hai, ki TUM yahan kya kar rahe ho?!"

- "Tum har mard ki tarah phislu aur chhichhore ho!" "Chhichhora tera woh bhai hai, ghatiya bhai Dev, jiska main galaa dabaanewaala hoon -" "Mere bhai ke baare mein kuch mat bolna!" Rajni is not just in possessive wife mode, she's also in protective sister mode. She hasn't even interacted with Dev properly since the time she returned home, but she stands up for herself AND him. That's it. I am firmly on #TeamBangdu. If that wasn't clear before, it's in writing now! Dev and Rajni do not deserve the sort of treatment they're getting from Shaan. Even if Shaan loves both of them deep down, he needs to be more vocal about it. A bit of appreciation would be nice. You know what? I am eagerly awaiting the day when Shogata Kant falls in love with Dev Bangdu even more than I was before. When she wholeheartedly accepts Dev as her lover, husband, and companion for life, I have a very, very strong feeling that she won't let Shaan get away with the insults he keeps hurling at Dev. If Shaan so much as dares to say a word against Dev Bangdu then, I'm pretty sure Shogata Kant Bangdu will give her brother a piece of her mind. She's fully capable of burning a man with her glare and her fury. No one messes with Shogata.

- So it all comes down to the presence or absence of Rajni's memory chip? Somehow I doubt that the restoration of that chip will be the solution to Shaan's problems. He's creating a ton of problems for himself right now in addition to the ones he already has, but he doesn't realize it. His thought process is going haywire, I think. Rajni is a robot, so Shaan thinks he can do whatever the hell he wants - since she doesn't have emotions, she can't feel anything, right? So anything goes! He can rekindle a relationship with his ex-girlfriend and confess that he, a married man in the eyes of his family and society, wants to marry her because he feels like he misses her and needs her. Key word? Zaroorat. That is Shaan's logic.

- I couldn't help thinking back to the first week of the show, when Shaan was shown to be strongly opposed to the prospect of getting married. To me, he came across as a commitment-phobic guy who wanted to steer clear of emotional complications and confrontations. Now we can infer that Samaira Ghosh was most likely the reason behind Shaan's desire to stay away from marriage altogether. He loved her, but she thought he wasn't expressive enough, wasn't romantic enough, wasn't worth her time, and she left him. He decided to get married only because he needed a way to fund Rajni's repairs...and that marriage to Rajni started to soften him up, started to humanize him in a way nothing else in his life had been able to before. He acknowledged that Rajni is an important part of his life, a significant part of who he is...Rajni's Shaan. And I thought he was on the way to becoming a better human being, because god knows he has a LOT of introspection and maturing to do still! But Shaan sees Samaira again after 3 years of no contact whatsoever...and he's back to being Samaira's Shaan, dreaming of a future that may or may not be realistic in the long term. I can completely understand why Shaan has relapsed, so to speak. Samaira is his chance at leading a normal human life. But even though he's thinking logically from that particular viewpoint, his field of vision is far too narrow. He's still seeing things through an emotional haze, and he's forgetting that the reasons why Samaira left him are still very much a part of who he is. His passion for science, his workaholic tendencies. His personality quirks. Those are parts of his nature that are not going to disappear.

[Episode 107] July 12th, 2016

- What is up with Shaan and Samaira repeatedly colliding and falling sideways onto beds? This is the second time it has happened in the span of a few days. Contrived much? Anyway, Samaira calls Shaan "stupid" again and asks him to help her up. His first thought is about his glasses. I'm not sure if I believe Samaira when she says she lost her way while trying to find the guest room, but I'll give her the benefit of the doubt. That house is pretty big and I haven't figured out the schematics yet, either.

- Interesting way to highlight a fundamental difference in nature between Shaan and Samaira. He brings up her cleanliness, labeling it as OCD. I don't know if she really is OCD - she seems nervous and awkward and neat - but regardless, this clashes severely with Shaan's unbelievably messy nature, if his lab is anything to go by. Considering he basically lives in his lab with those wires, metal parts, and millions of papers strewn all over the place, I think it's safe to label him as a haphazardly messy sort. Shaan shrugs off Samaira's neatness and punctuality in a way that doesn't sit right with me...He tries to downplay his shortcomings while taking her qualities lightly. And he says he probably knows more about her than he does about himself. If that's the case, then that's not a good sign. I think he needs to sit down and figure out more about himself and his priorities before trying to build a relationship like he's trying to do at the moment. But there are more revelations about him on the way, courtesy Samaira. She reminds him that he was always late to dates - sometimes he didn't even show up. Well, that says a lot about his priorities. Science, not Samaira. How did she even put up with him for as long as she did? Ah, but this is 3 years later...and she's still the one having to remind him subtly of some of the issues that drove them apart, as well as the fact that he is married now. That last bit is not a subtle reminder.

- Rajni comes barreling through the doorway to her bedroom - yep, I haven't forgotten that this is her bedroom, too - and heads straight to the bathroom. I still think it's hilarious how she pushes Shaan and Samaira apart in order to get to her destination even though there is absolutely nothing wrong with her, haha. She makes it sound like she's throwing up, and Samaira is alarmed. The new guest genuinely has concern for her new friend, and I like that. "Rajni, are you fine, are you OK?!" "I'm not OK!" That pout and the way she whines during that reply of hers, ahahaha! Rajni is taking advantage of Maggie Bhabhi's tricks and is being so very human-like while being OTT, too. It's really quite adorable!

- Shaan is being a wet blanket with his "Yeh koi galatfehmi hai" and I can only imagine what this looks like to Samaira, who hears that and then hears Rajni counter Shaan's words with "Kyun galatfehmi? Yeh sahifehmi hai!" Rajni lists out her symptoms of pregnancy, right down to "Mera dil keh raha hai ke humare Nikke Nikke Chintu Pinky raaste mein hai aapko 'Papa Papa' bulaane ke liye!" LOL, best! TV pregnancy symptoms parody time?

- "Pregnant kaise ho sakti ho tum?" Obviously he's referring to her metal body. I'm proud of Rajni for turning Shaan's question around and firing back at him. "Kyun? Kya kami hai tum mein?" It's not every day you hear a female protagonist (or anyone else, for that matter) asking the man, "What's wrong with you?" in relation to pregnancy issues. I'm glad these guys brought that up! Oh, but Shaan manages to irk me here as well with his assertion of virility. "Mujhme koi kami nahi hai! Koi kami nahi hai mujhme." Just the fact that he turns to Samaira and restates his point to her personally...Ugh. No, stop, Shaan. A point worth noting is that Samaira turns away from him as he directs those words at her, too. Does he not realize what he's saying? He's a married man, for god's sake.

- "Honeymoon jaayenge toh uska result yehi hoga, na?" Logically, this is a possible result, yes. Not the only one, but a possible one. As far as this family is concerned, from what they knew of Shaan-Rajni's relationship prior to the honeymoon, this result is the most plausible one. Once again, it's refreshing to see that this show doesn't ignore that. "Iss baat mein toh inka sabse bada contribution hai, na? Waise toh main ghar ke saare kaam akele kar leti hoon. Lekin yeh kaam akele nahi kar sakti thi, na?" She's so playful and happy about all this, exuding human-like enthusiasm as she brings up the innuendo issues and talks about them, no hesitation at all.

- Surili Kant is unpredictable to say the least. Like a chameleon. I like that she appears to be somewhat elated by the news of Rajni's pregnancy. A good surprise, that reaction! I also like that she is a bit deflated when Shaan says they didn't check with the doctor. So Surili wants a confirmation from the doctor, which is good. I approve of this! She is reluctant to get on board with the celebratory mood after that, but one glimpse of Samaira, and Surili changes her tune. She also doesn't let go of a single opportunity to express her resentment about Samaira. "Na hi tum Shaan ke life mein se chali jaati, na hi Rajni humari bahu banti, aur na hi itna achha din humko milta! Humara Shaan settle ho gaya, humare Shaan ka sansaar pura ho gaya!" So dramatic, Surili! But it is true. She's being sarcastic in directing this towards the girl who broke her son's heart, but she's right. In terms of the overarching storyline, this is exactly the reason why Rajni was able to even become Shaan's wife in the first place, really. It's also one of the reasons Rajni is as advanced as she is, I'd like to bet. Because of that broken relationship between Shaan and Samaira, Rajni is in this position today. But it's like a circle. Because Shaan was so dedicated to building Rajni, his relationship with Samaira didn't last. He drove her away, in a sense, because his robot was more important to him. But now...? Irony...?

- Shaan continues to be a complete killjoy. He keeps repeating "Kuch confirm nahi hua hai!" to anyone and everyone, all throughout the last half of the episode. I would be totally fine with his words of caution if they weren't linked to Samaira. I feel like he's almost got this warped need to keep himself "clean" of this pregnancy thing, to project a weird sort of "single and ready to mingle" persona despite being married. That's the problem - everyone else views him as married...but he doesn't. Up until Samaira's reappearance in his life, he was accepting of the married status. But now he's not. He's conveniently pushing that aside now, it seems. Not the solution, Shaan.

[Episode 108] July 13th, 2016

- "Yeh kya naya naatak hai, Rajni Kant?" First line of the episode, and I'm so very glad to hear this. Rajni Kant. Not Rajni. Not any of the other nicknames he gave her prior to the dismantling incident. Rajni Kant. Shaan is swinging like a pendulum between Samaira and Rajni now, and it's hard to figure out which way he's going to head next...But by calling her Rajni Kant, Shaan unconsciously reaffirms Rajni's position in his life. She is his wife.

- "Main aapke bachche ki maa bannewaali hoon...Apne honewaale bachche ki maa ko tin ka dabba bulaate hue sharam nahi aati?" Just the way Ridhima says all of her lines in this scene makes me laugh so much! Her expression is stoic and her tone is flat. And the dialogues are so much more hilarious in this context because Rajni really is a metal being who cannot have any sort of offspring, human or robot or hybrid!

- Shaan doesn't know how to deal with this. So he does what he always does. He uses his sarcasm to confront Rajni about this new program that she has somehow begun to follow on her own, without having it fed into her by Shaan or Dev. The almost crazed look in his eyes as Rajni answers his questions is scary and funny at the same time. Karan and his expressions, man! It's so neat that Rajni can now execute commands on her own, based on what she picks up from the people around her, and do what she thinks is going to benefit her family. This is a new type of "adarsh bahu" program, it seems, one that she might continue to build on. I wonder how that will go.

- "Darinde! Shaitaan! Kameene! Paapi! Itna ghatiya insaan hai tu! Ek robo ko bhi nahi chhoda tune?!" Look who's back! Bangdu Sahab! And despite Dev's strong words, Shaan doesn't flinch. Instead, Shaan turns around and starts unloading his frustrations on Dev. Again. "Sharam aati hai mujhe tujhe apna dost kehte hue!" Oh, and he threatens to beat Dev into a pulp if he doesn't find the memory chip and fix Rajni up. More threats, this time with a hammer in hand. *rolls eyes* Shaan is such a great friend, right? "Kameena meri jaan le lega ek din!" This is actually quite possible, given Shaan's anger issues. Poor Dev just can't catch a break! So who is better company, then, Dev? Shaan or Shogata? Obviously not Shogata.

- I think it's hilarious how Dev finally remembers that Shogata came into the lab and called him "Mr. Chhichhore" - and then he almost immediately concludes that she stole the chip that day for revenge. The last time this sort of thing happened, Shogu wanted her photographs back and ended up accidentally sticking her hand down Dev's shirt while he was trying to sleep. Now, Dev is practically risking his life by going into Shogu's room while she's asleep to look for that damn memory chip!

- Shaan heads over to the Kant bar to talk to Samaira. She's playing pool, which is awesome. And Shaan just interrupted her. He doesn't know what to say, but he tries to make amends by apologizing. Apologizing for what, exactly? Samaira cuts right to the heart of the matter. How many things is he going to apologize for? The night won't be long enough if he starts recounting all of the things that went wrong. Ouch. Shaan tries to speak up...and that's where he makes his first blunder. "Ab saari galti toh meri nahi thi, na? Itna bhi bura nahi hoon main." Granted. He's not a terrible man. Far from it. But he has trouble empathizing with others and expressing his own feelings, so he comes off as insensitive. Oh, and he deflects by blaming others. That won't gain favor with anyone. "Kuch toh tumhari galti bhi hogi." Second blunder. Samaira looks at him incredulously. "Really? So let's play, Shaan." He tries to come up with an example of a time when she did something wrong. He can't. Samaira watches him, stone-faced. She knows. "Kaisi game hai, yaar?!" He's annoyed, like a kid throwing a tantrum because he knows he can't play by the rules but wants to win. Samaira laughs, and it is not a melodious tinkle. It is sarcastic, slicing through the air. "Nahi yaad aa raha, na, Shaan?" Ouch.

- Samaira may be small, but she's got a lethal gaze and a sharp tongue. One by one, she begins to go through Shaan's mistakes and limitations. Every word she says to Shaan is like a punch to the gut. He actually flinches every time she hits a ball and it lands in the pocket. "Tum sorry maang rahe ho kyunki tum careless the, Shaan. Kyunki tumne kabhi kisi cheez ki responsibility nahi li, Shaan. Kyunki propose bhi tumne nahi...maine kiya tha, Shaan. Kyunki propose karne ke liye tum ek stupid sa science project le kar aaye the...jisse mujhe proposal nahi, bijli ka jhatka mila tha." At this point, Shaan speaks up to gush about that project, a robotic arm. Samaira doesn't care what it was. "You were always into yourself, Shaan." That shuts him up. "And you know what, Shaan? Sabse amazing baat yeh hai...ki yeh saari baatein tumhe kabhi realize hi nahi hui." She fixes him with a glare and keeps her eyes on him as she pushes the cue ball, which sends the final ball into the pocket. She won.

- In a final, desperate attempt to stall her, Shaan calls out to her. She shouldn't have turned. But she's gracious enough to listen. He haltingly mentions Rajni, his marriage...Samaira fixes him with that incredulous look again. And then she rushes forward, cue in hand. Shaan backs away, alarmed. I genuinely thought she was going to stab him with that cue! I can understand why she reacts the way she does, and I love her for it. Samaira just found out that Shaan is happily married to a wonderful woman whom his family dotes on. He went on his honeymoon recently, and something happened which made Rajni lose her memory. And now Shaan is implying that he's unhappy in his marriage? He's married and about to be a father, for god's sake! "Accept the fact, Shaan." These are all things that he should have told her earlier. He didn't...and in spite of her hurt, Samaira is still more understanding than he is.

- Careless. Irresponsible. Non-confrontational. Meek. Egotistical. Detached. Oblivious. Samaira says some of these words, hints at others...and she ran out of billiard balls to go any further, or chances are we'd have found out more about what Shaan was like back then. We've seen these traits in Shaan since the beginning of the show, too. He has good qualities as well, but they're seemingly drowned by his shortcomings. "Grow up," she says to him. He has a LOT of room to grow. My only reaction to each and every one of Samaira's points? She's damn right! And honestly, the more I see how Shaan behaves in front of Samaira - awkward and oddly lifeless, desperate to tell her the truth about Rajni but unable to get a single proper sentence out of his mouth - the more I can see why Samaira might have gotten fed up with him back when they were together. But now I'm wondering about those times she insulted him...how come Shaan didn't bring that up? Are those insults insignificant compared to his shortcomings and weaknesses as a person? Possibly. And that's a really fascinating thing to consider. I'll reserve my judgment for later.

- Meanwhile, Dev Bangdu is sneaking into his wife's room like a thief in the night. Shogata is completely at peace for once, looking like an angel asleep. Dev doesn't care. She's still his chipkali, his bandariya, no matter what. And she stole that memory chip. LOL, Dev's "Search mode ON!" cracks me up so much. Totally Rajni's big brother! Neel and his unbelievable range of facial expressions and voice modulation talent always makes me smile. And then there's Shogata, Rajni's sister-in-law. Shogu's expressions and movements are a lot more static and slow, almost mechanical in nature, as she sleepwalks. Neha is normally incredibly expressive in terms of using her face and voice to convey emotions, so this is pretty amazing to see. She doesn't blink very often during this scene, either! What a scene this is! This is the epitome of romance and comedy right here, with details that also offer possible hints at character and relationship dynamics, too.

- A hand on Dev's shoulder stops him from searching the shelves. Shogata is awake. But her gaze is glassy, unfocused, even though she's looking at him. She sleepwalks. And he woke her up. Kind of. "Tumhari aahat se Shogata ko toh jaagna hi tha, na?" Her voice is so soft! Soft and smooth, like satin. And then Shogata steps forward and brings her arms up and around Dev's neck slowly. "Sapnon mein bhi tum...aur sapnon ke baahar bhi tum...Matthew." This was so shocking and somewhat seductively sweet...until the last word. Damn it, Shogu! Still hung up on that guy?!

- "My Matthewww..." And Shogata leans in for a kiss, just like that. I love how Dev clamps a hand over her mouth and her eyes widen at the contact. Dev's kind of scared of what she might do, and for a very good reason. But instead of leaving her there, he reluctantly lowers his hand...and starts to talk to her. "Matthew...? Kaun...main?" "Haan! Bas tum...offo!" SO cute! She's a baby! And he's bewildered and uncomfortable but he echoes her. "Offo! Sote sote bhi khoon peene ki kalaa koi isse seekhe!"

- "Baby..." LOVE this! They both use that term of endearment! And I love how he talks to her like she's actually a baby, ahaha. "Matthew yahan nahi hai. Matthew wahan hai. Turn turn turn! Go go go, Shogu! See see see! Gooo Shogu!" He even gives her a little push, like he's encouraging her to walk away. I thought she'd walk into the wall or cupboard, LOL. Thankfully for her, and unfortunately for Dev, she turns right around and heads straight back to him. "Pakad liya!" LOL, she's playing tag with him now! Or hide-and-seek, whatever! Shooo cute, her voice! And poor Dev lets out a whimper. He's stuck. No escaping her. She always comes back to him somehow, even when she's not consciously seeking him out.

- Dev has a brilliant idea to find out where the memory chip could be. Since Shogata is asleep and believes that he is Matthew, why not use that to his advantage? He knows that she won't hide anything from Matthew. And I'm just thinking, how sad is that? She trusted that man, Matthew Hudson...I wonder how long she knew him and just how well they knew each other. It seems to me, based on what we've seen so far, that Shogu - or Shogs, as Matthew called her - was demonstrative of her affection for him. But somehow, given her conversation with Surili about "fulfilling demands" after marriage, I get the feeling that even if she might have been physically intimate with him, she wasn't completely emotionally invested in her relationship with him. Hmm.

- "Shogu Babyyy, I am your Mattyyy!" Neel's voice modulation and that exaggerated, drawling Anglicized Hindi is way, way too hilarious. And the natural transition into a stammer whenever Dev gets nervous and panicked. So amazing! Oh my god, how did they shoot this? Specifically, how did Neha shoot this without batting an eyelid?! Major, MAJOR props to these two!

- Shogata's "I missh you, missh you, pissh you, kissh you!" is ADORABLE. I love how she pounds her fists against his chest repeatedly and then grabs his shirt collar and pulls him closer! I honestly thought she was going to try and kiss him again, but she just ends up snuggling against his chest! Sooo sweet! She fits against him perfectly!

- Dev has a chip to retrieve, but is it even in this room? "Hai na." "Kahan?!" "Cupboard meinnn." LOL! Such a baby, oh my gosh! And she has potato chips in her cupboard and banana chips in a little owl-pattern tin. These details are making me very curious and concerned about her dieting habits now. Secret junk food stash...?

- "Matty baby!" Every time she grabs his collar, Dev looks like he's terrified for his life! I can't blame him. This passive, sleepwalking, strangely seductive Shogata is just as scary as the active, conscious, passionately angry Bengali tigress Shogata...if not more. This is a night full of revelations! Shogata has even more nicknames! "Munchkin..." Because she was SO tiny next to Matthew. "Shogugugugu..." Because she's a baby, a child at heart? And "Bunny Rabbit..." Because...playful sensuality? Innocent and sexy? That is the perfect way to describe Shogata, in my opinion...

- "Kya gandi gandi baatein bulaa rahi hai!" LMAO Dev. These little lines are so freaking amazing, I still can't believe I'm hearing them. Seriously wondering if they're trying to hint at these two being a very active, charged couple in the future...maybe they will, maybe they won't, but so many little things from their scenes just keep reinforcing that idea! "Chipkali ko Rabbit kaise boloon?! Bunny Rabbit?" "Awww!" I love the way she just keeps holding onto his collar and leans in, ready to try for another kiss. And LOL, the way he panics and tries to hold her at arm's length! She doesn't stop pouting at him, haha. These two are incredible.

- Dev has a surprise for Shogata! *sploosh* He rouses her from her sleepwalking state with a glass of well-aimed cold water. She sputters, blinks...and then she sees him. "TUM?! TUM yahan kya kar rahe ho?! You splashed water on my face!" She's most concerned about that?! She has no clue what she was doing with Dev, haha. She'd be mortified if she found out.

- Dev is the one to accuse her of touching him, and instantly Shogu's jaw drops and indignation is written all over her face. She's on the defensive now. "Oh, shut up, you idiot melodramatic! Agar iss poori duniya ki sabse last insaan bhi tum hoge, na, tab bhi Shogata tumhe slap karne ke liye bhi touch nahi karegi!" Um. Well. Shogu, you did that before, darling. With the glue. And the rassi. Dev actually counters her strongly and properly this time around. "Aye! TUMNE mujhe chhua tha. Maine nahi, samjhi?!" All Shogu can do is throw things at him and tell him to shut up. Dev runs to safety, finally able to escape.

- There's something of a pattern solidifying here...Shogata is the one who ends up making moves at Dev, unconsciously. She is the one who keeps accusing him of being physically attracted to her. Every scene that they have alone together progresses their strange, charged relationship a little bit more. It's so interesting that he keeps trying to run from her while she keeps finding ways to get close to him...and then when she snaps into full awareness, she tries to drive him away or she runs away on her own...and then the cycle repeats!

- Back in the lab, Shaan tries discussing the mysteries of a woman's mind with Rajni. Not the best person to talk to, haha. They come to two conclusions. One, women are more complicated than robots. And two, Rajni is more complicated than women. At the end of all this, I'm just wondering, how is the return of Rajni's memory chip going to magically solve all of Shaan's problems? He thinks that she's just going to step aside and let him go back to Samaira, is that it? What about the rest of the family? Shaan, where is your brain?

- "Hamla! Hamla! Bach gaya! Bach gaya!" Dev is back! He looks like he just ran for his life, trying to get away from Shogata, LOL. This man is my absolute favorite, hands down. Interesting little moment here, when Shaan zeroes in on Dev's statement about Shogata's room and asks him, "Kyun gaya tha Shogata ke kamre mein?" Am I letting my wishful thinking get the better of me, or did Shaan go into protective big brother mode for a bit there? I thought Rajni would actually help her brother out and tell Shaan why Dev was in Shogu's room. No such luck. But what she does is so much better. She starts to sing. "Haan, yehi pyaar hai!" Shaan tries to shush her and Dev sends her a glare from behind Shaan's back. Not helping, Rajni! But I am very amused, not gonna lie.

- "Pyaar?! Woh bhi teri behen chipkali se, pyaar, woh bhi Dev Bangdu?! Never! Tujhe pata hai, agar ek taraf khaai aur doosri taraf Shogata ring leke khadi ho, na, toh main apne aap ko bachaane ke liye khaai mein kood jaaoonga!" LOL! If given a choice between falling in love with Shogata and falling to his death, Dev would pick death a thousand times. So much intensity on both sides of that relationship, my god. More than anything, I want to see what brings about a change in their perceptions of each other. For all of Shogata's passionate loathing, I feel like Dev might ultimately be the one who holds out the longest because he is so vehemently repelled by Shogu's attitude in general. I'm so curious to see what will actually happen!

- Shaan finally has an epiphany. If only he'd used that brain of his sooner. Bewakoof scientist! That music in the background is very cool, by the way. And by the end of the scene, Dev's trademark lines return in the form of "Tu! Tera robo hai! Tu karega jo bhi karega! Main kyun karoon?!" which also makes me happy. Okay, I know that Shaan and Dev are best friends and that Shaan inherently trusts Dev - although from the way Shaan constantly ends up grumbling about Dev's mistakes, it might be better if Shaan just doesn't entrust Dev with anything...I know that Shaan is incredibly dependent on Dev in many ways and the latter always steps up to help because that's what unconditional love in a friendship means, support through the good times and the bad. But seriously. More verbal appreciation would really be nice. Oh well. If Dev can see past Shaan's insults and complaints and all of the physical pain, I'll try to shrug them off. I guess it's a guy thing? Or a we're-such-close-friends-that-it's-cool thing? I really wouldn't know.

- Shaan looks at that memory chip like he has found a missing piece of his life. Aww, how sweet. Except to me, it's not all that sweet. Rajni, Shaan's Rajni is in that chip. All of their memories are in that little gold object. So does that mean that the metal being with incredible AI standing and watching him in the lab is just a shell...? Is Rajni's existence and significance in Shaan's life truly limited to or defined by the memory chip in Shaan's hand? I'm not sure how I feel about this at the moment, but it makes me a bit uneasy. Shaan seems to think that reinserting Rajni's memory will solve his problems. I highly doubt that. As I've said before, he's created more problems for himself without Rajni playing a part in their development. Anyway, I'll let him bask in the euphoria of recovering that little gold object for now.

[Episode 109] July 14th, 2016

- After the revelations in the previous episode, I don't know what to make of Surili's personal vendetta against Samaira anymore. I guess a mother's love is blind...? Regarding the terrible breakup, it appears that neither Samaira nor Shaan were faultless. As of right now, I can see that Shaan has a heavier share of shortcomings that he still hasn't tried to improve, so...Based on that, I can understand why Samaira said the things she did, even if they hurt Shaan. But these things happen, life goes on. And thinking back to the time when Shaan told Rajni about his breakup, I was of the impression that Shaan had swallowed his pain and had accepted the reasons behind the failed relationship. Surili probably knows only one side of the story and I don't think she would ever want to know the other side, which is a pity.

- Samaira, unlike Surili, seems to genuinely appreciate Rajni's qualities and personality. She has only known the girl a few days, so that's a mark in my good books for Samaira. That gift for Surili is interesting, though. Is that a sort of weird apology plus gratitude gift? Looks like it. I feel like Surili is going to hit someone with that statue, LOL. She keeps bringing up the same points over and over again, namely that if Samaira hadn't left, then Rajni never would have come into their lives. I just hope that once Samaira is gone, Surili will actually come to appreciate Rajni. Genuinely this time. But when it comes to Surili Kant, I'm afraid to hope for anything.

- Rajni the Hyderabadi adarsh bahu is back! This is all about parallels with a twist, and hey, Dev actually got the correct bhajan uploaded into Rajni's system this time! Proud of you, Dev! I love how Shaan and Dev walk into the house, jamming to Rajni's bhajan. LOL, only these two mad guys would do that. Dev brought Rajni for a test run in the house...Oh boy. Why does he bring these problems upon himself? "Singing maine sikhaayi hai!" Haha, how much talent does it take for a truly gifted singer to sing badly? A lot of talent, I would suspect! I can't bring myself to sing out of tune, and here Neel sets his melodious voice on standby mode for a few seconds to sing like a crow, LOL. My hopes of Dev having a secret hobby in the forms of singing and playing the guitar are being crushed right now!

- Surili going into Bengali saas mode is kind of awesome. "Amar sona bou...tumhari mishti doi jaisi baatein..." Haha, mishti doi. Hyderabadi Rajni couldn't be further from that! It's quite funny that the Kant family's reactions are pretty much as expected. Surili freaks out, Amrish just looks mildly surprised, Ghyaan-Dhyaan are kind of like, "Oh, it's back?" and Maggie-Sharmila are like, "Oh no! It's back!" while Shaan and Dev are probably wishing this wasn't happening again. The only one who missed all of this last time was Shogata, and her reactions are hilarious. She alternates between "W*F is going on here?" and "I'm so done with these crazy people" and throws in a "No, no! No Hyderabadi from me!" as well. I would've loved to see her reaction to Rajni's oh-so-cultured dance from the first time Dev introduced his eccentric sister to the family, LOL.

- Hyderabadi Rajni is such a riot, completely crazy! Also included in that category is Dhyaan's attempt to say a Hyderabadi muhavra. This whole family is so weird, haha. The best thing to come out of this Rajni's repertoire is "zulfi saiyyan" - plus the way she hits his head, too. For a minute, I thought the show would go into 80s film territory with the whole sautans-turned-sisters deal. Please, no. Sahelis are fine. Sisters is a bit too much. Almost forgot to mention that she remembers that he was going to leave her in a suitcase and abandon her. So, SO glad that she hasn't forgotten that incident!

- While trying to get the glitches out of Rajni's system, Shaan is still talking about Samaira! What will Samaira think of him, he married such a strange girl who speaks in such a strange manner, etc. Uh, hello. Shaan, you made Rajni. And you can't fix her up right now, so isn't this an example of your limitations as a creator? Sheesh. Rajni points this out, too, but Shaan just continues his "Think about my reputation, think about your Shaan!" stuff, not taking a moment to pause and think about what Rajni is saying. And why should Rajni think or care about Shaan's reputation anyway? Oh, sorry. She can't care because she's a robot. And I guess she has to think about his reputation because she's his robot. Just ignore the fact that she's still his wife and he's talking about some other woman.

- If this version of Hyderabadi Rajni is going to be playing matchmaker for Shaan and Samaira, I won't be cheering her on. She brings up the question of kisses and Shaan has an interesting reaction. "So cheap!" he says. I'm rolling my eyes because if he could have gotten one, I'm sure he wouldn't have minded. Especially given what happens in future episodes, which I have yet to review. Shaan, that's the pot calling the kettle black. More interesting and confusing is the way Shaan brings up his refutation to Rajni. He claims that he didn't kiss her after their reunion, so why would he kiss Samaira after so many years? Uh, is this one of those temporary lapses where Shaan forgets for a few seconds that Rajni is a robot? Or is this his way of reaching for any sort of haphazardly-constructed argument that he can think up for the sake of deflecting Rajni's question? He's confused and he's confusing me as well. I don't know what to make of any of this.

[Episode 110] July 15th, 2016

- If Samaira hadn't shown up in the lab, would Shaan have allowed Rajni to kiss him again? He put up a halfhearted resistance from what I could tell, but then again, Rajni is quite strong, so...who knows? And why does Samaira show up with a baby poster to stick in Shaan's lab, of all places? Probably because she knows he spends most of his time there. She gives him a very cold, hard look while reminding him that he's going to be a father. I'm assuming that's because of the stuff he tried to tell her during the pool table conversation. She doesn't want him to shirk his responsibilities and leave Rajni in a lurch, I'm hoping.

- I'm on the fence about Rajni being both a wife and wingman paving the way for Shaan to spend the day out with Samaira. I don't have any issues with a husband or wife giving his or her spouse the liberty to spend time chatting with old friends for a day. Yes, a man and woman should be able to be friends and stay friends. They should be able to have amicable breakups and hopefully stay on good terms. The key word in all of this is "should." Shaan went out somewhere with Samaira in tow, and I'm presuming they walked and chatted, maybe went and had coffee. Whatever. Shouldn't be a big deal. Rajni gave him the freedom to do that and we're not going to know the details besides the fact that Shaan and Samaira had a good time and came back in the evening. Rajni had other issues to deal with in the meantime...Plus she's not Shaan's babysitter.

- I have a question. Who does Surili have more problems with, Rajni or Samaira? She clearly dislikes both and is incredibly stressed out while trying to play the role of loving mother-in-law to Rajni. She's doing all of this just to drive Samaira away? It's not working very well, though. Another question. Once Samaira leaves, is Surili just going to revert back to being catty towards Rajni? God, I hope not! Please don't make her character graph go backwards and downwards!

- Oh, I love the way this scene in the Kant House living room transitions from Amrish-Surili to Dev-Shogata! It highlights a few contrasts between the couples that I think are rather interesting. Amrish and Surili enter the hall together, with Surili moaning and complaining. Amrish is basically walking backwards while berating her gently about how her tension is the cause of all of her problems. He chides her in a good-natured manner, listening to her latest lamentation, generally supportive and unfazed by her words. Business as usual. As the older couple leaves the hall together, the camera shifts to the younger couple, Surili's daughter and her temporary husband. Shogata enters the hall, also complaining, but the source of her stress is Dev himself. He follows her into the living room and it's business as usual for them, too. He taunts her, she falls for the bait, and a verbal duel ensues. Dev seems to relish teasing Shogata with what is tantamount to emotional blackmail - again! He just keeps riling her up, and she just keeps responding. They end up confronting each other and there's absolutely no backing down from either of them.

- "Peeche chalna band karo, this is very irritating, nahi toh Shogata tumhe seriously maar daalegi!" "Maar daalegi? Haan? Abhi maarne ki baat kar rahi ho? Kal bada pyaar aa raha tha, Shogugugugu!" LOL, how long has Dev been following Shogata around? The whole afternoon and evening? I find that thought immensely amusing. I love that Dev is all chilled out about teasing Shogu, but as soon as the word "pyaar" leaves his lips, she whirls around to face him with a glare. That's what provokes her to tell him to shut up...and he does.

- "Shogata has already told you aisa kuch nahi hua tha! So don't repeat - otherwise I'll seriously kill you!" Okay, Shogu...If you say so. But you weren't actually awake during all of that, remember? And it sure didn't look like "kuch nahi hua tha," but okay. Dev catches onto her simmering anger and fans the flames. He stumbled upon a treasure trove of things to irritate Shogu with and he's going to use every chance he can get to annoy her. "Oh, shut up, shut up, shut up!" She's about to walk away for good...but he calls her Bunny Rabbit and that stops her in her tracks. I can almost feel her blood pressure rising just by looking at the way she tenses up.

- "Tumhe kya chahiye, Bangdu?" Every word is drawn out, elongated, like she's verbally italicizing that question with her tone. He follows suit, speaking through gritted teeth...and they step into each other's space, closer than is strictly necessary. They have the entire living room to themselves, but their world is restricted to just the two of them and the words between them. And an envelope. "Mujhe kuch nahi chahiye, yeh courier aaya tha, lab mein pada tha, yeh dene aaya hoon." So much intensity in this moment!

- "Toh tab se Shogata ka time waste kar rahe ho tum?! Pehle nahi bol sakte the?! Idiot!" Haha, I knew she'd never let him have the last word! I love how she aggressively snatches the envelope, rips it open, and pulls out the contents. She's taking her anger out on the poor envelope and I'm surprised it hasn't been ripped to shreds! Also, I love how Shogu always calls him "Idiot" when she's fuming. If she's not calling him some variant of "Bhukkad Bangdu," she's probably going to call him either just "Bangdu" or "Idiot." I would love it so much if those terms were to ultimately become endearments for him, reserved exclusively for her to use.

- "Reports? Pregnancy report...?" Shogu's voicing her observations out loud...and Dev gives her this curious look that reminds me of an inquisitive puppy, haha. There's no name on the papers, she notes. As she's wondering whose report it could be, he pipes up, unnecessarily, "Meri toh nahi hai!" and that earns him a rather patronizing look from her, bahaha. Their faces are so fabulous, man! I love them! Shogata's reaction upon concluding that Rajni is pregnant...all kinds of cute! She's initially somewhat happy, I think? And then she realizes that Rajni is pregnant, which means things happened on that honeymoon, which means Shaan - her brother Shaan - had a part to play. "God, oh my god. Of course, oh god. Yeah." And she ends by letting out a mild sound of resigned disgust or something along those lines, hahaha. All the while, Dev is watching her and thinking, "Rajni is pregnant? Are you insane?! There is no way this could ever happen! Paagal!"

- "Congratulations, Rajni. Tum pregnant ho." Hah, she says this so confidently and Dev is still like, "This girl is crazy!" LOL, Rajni dismisses the possibility, hands the envelope back, and Dev takes the opportunity to say, "Arrey, wohi toh main bol raha hoon! Rajni pregnant nahi ho sakti! Tum log bas baat ka batangad banaao!" Dev didn't actually say anything before that, haha! The way he talks to Shogu in this bit totally gave me the impression of a husband talking exasperatedly to his wife! The #HusbandWifeSync kicks into gear a little bit later when Sharmila shows up and the duo simultaneously concludes with a shared look between them that she is the one who is pregnant. Wrong conclusion again, but it's super cute how they both rush to help Sharmila. Shogu's casual use of "Oh, we know!" stands out as well, because I don't think I've ever heard her refer to herself and Dev as a "we" like this before. I admire their confidence in their filmi medical skills, but Dev and Shogu are the most useless doctors ever, LOL. They even turn that into a little competition! Only these two, man. Only these two. Poor Sharmila! At the end of all this, Team Bangdu's diagnosis? "Yehi pregnant hai!" Rajni, Dev, and Shogata are so much fun to watch when they're together! Hope we get to see much more of this trio!

- Dhyaan and Sharmila are supposedly very much in love with each other, but they don't trust each other very much. Can someone please explain how they even came this far in their relationship? And who is this Nancy? Ghyaan/Dev on the sidelines, utterly bewildered at the melodrama, voice my thoughts aloud. "Tum dono toh mujhse bhi zyaada filmi ho!" "Aur paagal bhi! Psycho!" "Aur tum dono ko ek doosre se kitna bharosa hai, aaj pata chal gaya." "Haan! Pata chal gaya! Tum dono ek doosre ke bachche ke maa-baap nahi ban sakte? Chhi!" LMAO Ghyaan and Dev! Thanks, guys. That's what I would have said, too.

- "Let me use the Dev Bangdu dimaag!" Dev is SUCH a cutie! "Haan! Mujhe lagta hai iss ghar mein jiski nayi nayi shaadi hui hai, na, wohi pregnant hoga! Haan!" He's so excited about this deduction that he belatedly realizes the implications of the words that just left his mouth. Oh god, Dev! Shogata has two very, very protective brothers...watch out!

- "WHAT?! W*F?! Shogata ke baare mein tum aisa soch bhi kaise sakti ho?! Shogata...aur Dev ke bachche ki maa?!" As expected, Shogata is repulsed by the mere thought of her being Dev's child's mother. This is also one of the rare times she has used his actual name recently... "Oh gosh! Aisa thought aate hi, Shogata ko ulti si aane lag gayi!" The mental vomiting thing is too hilarious - and it doesn't help to dispel the impression that she's pregnant, haha! "Obviously yeh thoughtwaali ulti hona - I mean, thoughtwaali ulti hai!" Haha, cute. I like how Shogu accidentally slips into Hyderabadi for a second and then corrects herself. Even her Hyderabadi is dignified-sounding!
- "Toh kya tumne aur Bangdu ne pyaar ki -" Shogata holds up a hand to stop her sister-in-law from saying anything more, sending her a steely look for daring to suggest such a thing. "HOLD ON! Hold on! Please, Rajni! Aur yeh thought kabhi dobara mention bhi mat karna! Gosh! Yuck! Chhi! I need some fresh air! God!" This is just so endlessly amusing to me. Mention Dev, Shogata, and pyaar in the same breath, and she completely freaks out. She doesn't want to hear it and she sure as hell doesn't want to think about it. Ever. Yet she just can't seem to leave him alone...

- While Rajni and Sharmila are trying to figure out who the pregnancy reports belong to, Shaan and Samaira are chatting in the lab. "Tum jaanti ho na, main kitna modest hoon?" ...Yeah. I don't think he's modest at all, but I agree about the importance of scientists in bringing about change in the world! "Aur Shaan ki jo creation hai, woh yehi hai. Jab duniya dekhegi, tab duniya bolegi ki, 'Wow! Iske bina toh hum reh hi nahi sakte!" Nice. Can't live without his robot? In what sense, though? In a "this robot is just a super-advanced machine that can do all sorts of tasks so that you don't have to" kind of sense? Or in a "this robot is more than a machine and can also be a friend and confidante" kind of sense?

Great job with the review..I simply do not like shaan when he is with Samaira..he becomes one of those geeks fawning over the popular girls in school..it's kinda pathetic..he loses his own self esteem and takes that sense of insecurity out on those he takes for granted (rajni).. the sad thing is - i was looking forward to the dynamics of the trio but am highly disappointed..

Your name is Anwesha, I believe? Please correct me if I'm wrong! 😳

Thanks for taking the time to read through all of these reviews!
To say that I do not like Shaan when he's with Samaira would be a massive understatement, honestly. I completely agree with you about the disappointment regarding the last few weeks. I was very excited to see how this unconventional love triangle would play out and reach a resolution - especially during the week I reviewed in this thread - but unfortunately, it wasn't handled well. That's part of the reason why I haven't written reviews for those episodes yet. I'll get to them soon and work through them gradually, though...
