Technically, the tagline of this post is broadly applicable to BBKD as a whole, but it felt especially relevant in the context of today's episode..
A wedding is usually the biggest occasion in any desi TV show and any desi family actually...any excuse to pile on loud, garish clothes, and have crazy drama happening on all ends😆.
But what we saw today was so different from any wedding ever seen before on TV...it was neither a forced wedding, nor a hate one, nor an OTT loud "lovefest" tamasha that continues on for days and months on end with every episode devoted to all manner of drama.
Instead, we saw simply an attempt by two people to try and fulfill each other's dreams and wishes to the best of their abilities...and so Meera dons the sari that Abhi's mother wished she would wear and Abhi organizes his own humble attempt at a Japanese destination theme, complete with flowers being showered on Meera.
On paper, this can sound so straightforward but it comes alive so BEAUTIFULLY onscreen...kudos to the actors, creatives and director for bringing alive every emotion...I can't recall the last time a wedding sequence actually bothered to focus on the subtle emotions...everything from the way Abhi's eyes lit up seeing Meera in the sari, to the joy of the cousins as they held that dupatta over Meera, to Meera looking so unbelievably sweet just simply walking over...the shots of the family members getting enchanted by Mona's little act, the showering of the flowers...everyone just looked so touched on a genuine level that it added to the JOY of the occasion.
Too often weddings both on TV and in real life have become major stress machines for everyone involved...after ages I saw a show celebrate simply the JOY of two people wanting to be together, because that is all it is at the end of the day...except it so often gets lost in embellishments, personas, facades that people feel the need to put up to match god knows which societal expectations...lol.
Even the actual ceremony was so sweet in it's simplicity...the pheras, Meera's grin at Abhi when her father does the kanyadan, sindoor, mangalsutra, everything done so simply and solemnly without the garish, drawn out tamasha it has become in every show...something so SOLID about Abhi-Meera together and the assurance they bring to each other despite having just about gotten together in the timeline of the show...whether that comes from PJ-ND's natural ability to showcase such a camaraderie or it's the presentation of these characters, it's something beautifully refreshing to watch.
One thing that I really liked...fleeting as it was...the fact that for those brief moments when Mona appears in her little kimono and the flowers are being showered on Meera, EVERYONE...yes, even Amma and Madhu had a smile on their faces...for that brief moment, everyone forgot their grudges and resentments and it was a moment of genuine happiness...I loved how the show executed this.
As always, the little touches...Abhi raising his eyebrows to ask Meera "kaisa lagaa" after Rohan praises their teamwork😆...the way Abhi transitions from calling Prahlad "Uncle" to "Dad/Papa"...it just felt so natural as he leaned over to ask Meera what she calls him...lol...finally they showed Abhi interacting with Meera's parents directly so I was glad to see that...aww@ Jaya ji feeling so emotional all the way...and Meera telling her, "Mom, I'll be fine"😆...they all just look so much like a real family...
Grah-pravesh drama stretched out a bit for me...but anyways, it's ok...itna toh hona hi tha...set up for Meera's blunders next morning.
Precap: LOLLL looks like all the cousins ended up sleeping with Meera in Abhi's room...toh Abhishek kahaan soya?😆😆...and subah subah he was up and running with his usual morning routine of making lists in his diary...At this point, it's Anita akeli jo Meera ke saare outfits sambhaal rahi hai...Meera isn't being able to walk two steps in any of this stuff😆...chalo finally Anita bhi kisi kaam aa rahi hai😆
