I just finished watching this week's episodes after a break of sorts and didn't find Abhi's realisation all that jarring either. Essay coming up so bear with me. ๐
I had stopped watching in between because I wasn't getting Meera at all, but surprisingly this week did well on that front...not just the remote control scene but also the scenes with her sister and her family. This might be because I'm watching after a long break but I don't find Riya as annoying as the rest of you seem to do. ๐ I agree, Meera definitely got better fleshing out in the last two weeks especially...more fleshed out interactions with her family...more insight into her mind beyond just random musings...and I also feel Namita is coming into her own as Meera too. As for Riya, lol I resent her subversive notions about making Meera be all servile towards Aman...and she comes across as shallow in general but she,s ok otherwise.Meera seems to have a learning disability of sorts which no one in her family has caught on to...they are well-meaning but too accomplished and successful to understand that Meera's inability to do well in conventional set-ups stems more from that compulsive lack of interest than lack of ability. And Meera seems to have accepted this version too, which would explain all the self-deprecating jokes and the strange wish to be a remote control and get a pat on her back for her malfunctioning brain. Talk to her about Devpur ki mutant makkhiyaan or the entertainment which can be had from the Pant family, things she's interested in, and she will bring the house down with her wise observations. ๐ It's as if she looks at the world around her with a different filter than the rest, and I liked that they are trying to flesh that out rather than just making her random quirky or just another neglected rich child. Absolutely...Meera definitely has a learning disability of some sort...ADHD or Slight Dyslexia...she picked up things very fast in a vocal format when Abhi taught it to her through rhymes...as you said, she looks at the world through a totally different filter and needs more patience and understanding to help achieve her potential...her family couldn't understand that so they went with the Meera is dumb narrative, thus leading to her low self esteem.I think what touches my heart is the fact that despite her low self esteem, she hasn't lost her spirit...it's a very endearing and admirable trait in herAbhi said "Pant Bhavan ki pehli subah" actually, not dhoop (that came earlier in his speech) , but yeah, loved the lines too. Apt analogy for who Meera is and what she brings to Abhi's life. Abhi is so mired in the unending problems of Pant Bhavan and his family, there's never going to be any escape, any leaving for him, and he doesn't want it either. Which is why it was such a beautiful way to put it...his world remains the same but for him, Meera has been that soft sunshine of daybreak...jispe jitni giri, utni uski ho gayi...her special filter seems to have reached Abhi's eyes and made him find new dreams in his old world. Beautifully put! That is exactly what I felt Friday's realization scene was trying to portray...that subah waali line especially was so beautifully written and delivered by PJ...very aptly complimented by the softness in ND's eyes.I am curious how the forever indecisive Meera finally makes up her mind to be with Abhi and how she sells it to her family, who are sure to disapprove. This Aman is such an empty douche of a useless character, bleh. I guess that is the crux of Meera's journey...how she manages to reach that stage...cuz right now all her focus is on winning the approval of her parents.PJ is winning my heart with Abhi, main kya boloon, the guy's sincerity really shines through. Abhi could so easily become boring; instead he comes across as this strong, honest guy who walks through a difficult, disappointing life while holding back so much of himself in order to do it every day. I come back to this show just to check if they've made him happier somehow or completely relegated him to dukhiyari bahu status. ๐ Lol yes PJ is winning me over with his nuanced portrayal of Abhi too...the sincerity in his acting really shines through...in the hands of a lesser actor, Abhi could easily become boring, but PJ makes him so heartwarming without becoming bechara ..even Namita is pleasantly surpring me in some ways more than my expectationsI agree about PJ and Namita having some range together. Don't find Namita all that expressive but her Meera is scatterbrained without being ditzy and I'm okay with it.I've lost all interest in Pant family ke dramay. That scene with all the cousins hugging Abhi, Rohan and Avni though...seemed out of the blue but was cute. Lol yeah Meera bhi same.Pant family drama has taken a nosedive for the worse with Yogi ka return. This Sanjay dude is cute and the perfect indulgent Jeeju. Nice guy, hope they keep him around to balance out Riya's nagging. Word.

Abhi had feelings for Meera from the beginning but the problem for me is the way they executed it. These are supposed to be high points his dad track or his realisation one but they just seemed to have rushed through it. Sanjay tells Abhi that Meera helped get an extension and asked not to tell anyone and the next moment he just goes to this I love her mode ๐. Felt quiet jarring and rushed .And I feel like smacking him whenever he does that SRK pose๐ Just does not go with his image.๐ The way he exaggerates nodding his head gets to me. ๐I liked the Raizadas scene in the beginning. The way Meera pulls Riya over๐ and that face time chat was good. All of a sudden Ramraj has become sensible. I am looking forward to see him with his sarcastic comments and him actually helping Abhi.I have this question if Meera helped Abhi to get an extension what did Yogi do? Was it not his contact that supposedly got the extension.๐ and which got him easy acess to Pant Bhavan๐คI like the song and its lyrics. The male voice is a bit inaudible the first time๐ But I heard the audio on loop and it grew on me.
I've been traveling the last few days so only just managed to catch up on the Friday episode. Was expecting worse given all the reactions in the forum๐but maybe it helps if you don't watch the show in real time :P
As far as love realizations go, I agree that timing-wise it's not the most optimum...but is it the worst bungling of a love realization or confession I've seen? Not really..lol. I've seen plenty other examples...cases where my expectation were higher and I felt more let down. But with BBKD, my expectations got very well adjusted in Rohan ki bday party wala epi...with that as the low benchmark, there is nowhere to go but up now...lolWhen this show first started, I expected an instant realization plus shaadi story with more focus on post shaadi drama. Instead, to my pleasant surprise, they provided sincere interactions, connections, heartwarming moments. With that in mind, I didn't really find Friday's scenes that jarring...why?Because Abhi has been smitten by her since day one...when he thought she was Meenakshi...this isn't some guy looking for a grand love story...this is a guy with simple aspirations in life...so when this girl walks in painting his life, his family with a giant smile, that is it for him. Yes, he discovers more of her along the way as he gets to know her but he doesn't need 3 more weeks of bonding to know this simple truth. This is where a lottt of the credit comes from PJ's acting as well...he plays it all SO sincerely...the entire gazebo bit in the song sequence where they wove in all his memories of Meera and basically brought together his thoughts on her...to make it plausible. I'm not saying it couldn't have been done better but for me it wasn't a loss of connect.I prefer the one line version of the theme song and the lyrics felt a bit patchy in this version but I think it will grow on me with time. Given that I was braced for the SRK pose this time, even that didn't put me off. LolI think PJ-ND acted really well in the ILU scene...especially the heartfelt solemnity PJ portrayed and the softness in ND's eyes...good transition from the general buddy chemistry between Abh-Meera...they have range in them๐and I must mention the dialogues...I loved the dhoop waali line where he talks about what Meera has brought to his life...this dream was all about him acknowledging the emotions and desires in his heart that he is otherwise used to hiding and curbing...it is believable that he gave in to that high in that moment because for a guy like him, such simple gestures would mean the world. Which is why when the dream breaks and he had to come back to the rude reality of Aman, you can see why he allows himself such few fantasies.I think they are trying to channel some angst for a bit with Abhi pining for Meera, knowing she's beyond his reach and Meera needing to struggle with choosing Aman and being drawn to Abhi.So not a lost cause just yet I'd say :)
