I think you read character of Meera very wrong. She is the last person to be selfish. She is irresponsible and immature. She lacks focus in her life. Lack of focus is not the same as being lazy. If she was lazy she would be sitting around wasting her time and not trying to figure out what it is that she really is interested in doing.
Unfortunately for her everything she has tried her hand at so far is less than interesting to her. She might have enjoyed it but not enough for it to become her life's ambition. So she decided she wants to do anything that makes her happy and therefore the people around her happy. What she said to Rohan is correct, it is hard to understand people like her who don't run after something with a vengeance all their life and instead like to just experience life as it comes.
Meera is different from the rest of Abhi's family in many ways. The rest of Abhi's family has a narrow vision of their own problems. I would say they are on the selfish side of the coin, but not intentionally so and that is even more unfortunate because you can't really hate them as they are not inherently evil and selfish. They just become so because of the way Abhi handles the household. They find it easy to rely on him.
Meera on the other hand doesn't choose to be dependent on her family. She at least tries to do things herself. But she chooses to not feel the pressure of being financially self-dependent without figuring out what it is that would make her happy truly in life. In that sense she is still not an adult and therefore needs her parents to support her. Most normal people figure this out by Meera's age but she hasn't. Doesn't make her selfish or lazy. Just makes her indecisive.
Abhi on the other hand is the opposite of Meera. He knows what he needs to do in life and where his priorities are. He had his personal ambition and the responsibilities of the entire household that he has taken upon himself. I don't think anyone in the household asked him to shoulder the responsibility but Abhi is the kind of personality that will take it upon himself. Does he feel guilty? Does he enjoy his responsibility? I am not sure? I got the sense that he is pretty frustrated with his life. In the very first episode, they mentioned that he rarely smiles. And having seen Priyanshu in his previous show where he actually played a character more similar to Meera, it is a testament to the guy's acting ability that he can switch to such a serious role and do justice to it.
I think Meera will be the kind of addition in Pant Family that will make them see that life is more than responsibilities and solving of problems. She will bring a fresh wave of thinking in the family whereas being part of such a large joint family will teach Meera to have some priorities and shoulder some responsibilities. It will be mutually beneficial.
