" Dekhiye Toh Lagta Hai Zindagi Ke Raahon Mein Ek Bheed Chalthi Hai, Sochiye Toh Lagta Hai Bheed Mein Hai Sab 'Tanha' ", these lines from a old Doordarshan serial' title track seems to be a right fit for the two lonely souls - Ram Kapoor and Priya Sood!
They might be in a crowd, they might have people around them, they may even pass a smile at them or hold a conversation with them yet despite this Ram and Priya are totally alone.. That is the vibe I could pick up from the second episode of BALH2.
Ram and Priya's akelapann and loneliness echoes in silence, it peeks from their orbs and screams but in quiet and the indifference of their family members to this is disturbing on so many levels..
Lemme start with talking about Ram, the excitement with which he wanted to be a part of his sister's big day, looks like his sister didn't want him more than for the cupcakes and shoes he ordered for her.. He has a family, a mother, a sister, a brother but he is not a part of them..He is their go to man for money and luxuries but when it comes to being a family member he is treated as a pariah.. My heart broke for Ram looking at the pain in his eyes.. And the way he kept mum, it seems like for his family he is just a use and throw thing, used as per convenience and discarded or kept at a distance when not needed.. I agree with Kunal, Ram needs someone solid.. And I am waiting for Priya to be that solid partner for him.. Once Priya is in Ram's corner, the hurt child in Ram might find solace and comfort..
And his family's attitude of dekhkar bhi undekha karna usko is one of the reasons why Ram is a man child, a man who eats medicines like a paranoid, a man who binges on unhealthy food, it is his anxiety and craving for love that makes him do so.. I have developed a strong dislike for Ram's step family.. And I wish Priya is by his side soon to hold his hand when things get difficult and to console him when days are hard.. Ram needs it and he deserves it!!
Next talking about Ram and Vedika, I don't understand Vedika at all, she dumped Ram, she is married but still why does she depend on him and why does she look at him like he needs to fulfill her expectations.. For God's sake woman look at your husband and leave Ram alone..
Rubbing salt on Ram's wounds Vedika and her husband are flaunting their relationship...It looked so fake... And Ram cried, ohhh Godd.. My heart went out to him.. The way he is being taken advantage of is so wrong on so many levels.. His sentiments, his emotions are not taken into account and this is unfair.. I want Priya to come and do sabka hawa tight for hurting Ram..And before I forget the naak behta teary eyed Ram looked like he desperately needs a cuddle and for that too Priya needs to enter his life like asap, right now maybe..
Once again I am glad Ram has friends who care for him.. Be it Adi's wife or his three friends Kunal, Vikrant and Aditya their bond is lovely.. Kisiki nazar na lage!! Once Priya joins this gang it will be fun..
Lemme next shift my focus to Priya, she also has a problem with gaane and a tub of ice cream.. I mean ice cream, who doesn't love a scoop of ice cream, but here we have Priya who has a pessimistic way of looking at the smallest things too, but then one cannot blame her much.. Getting an insight into her life in episode 2, it is understandable why she is the way she is...
She has struggled hard and has had her heart torn to pieces.. While on one hand her so called father is sir (not that he deserves to be addressed as sir if you ask me) for her, a father who abandoned his wife and children because her mother couldn't birth a son and on the other hand her boyfriend dated her for four years before choosing her younger sister as his bride... These two men Priya has had in her life are pathetic, no wonder she is vary of men, runs away from relationships and is always bitter and pessimistic..
These two men are good for nothing and though Priya might not say it out aloud but they have scarred and damaged her emotionally.. I am sure once Ram is in the picture and in Priya's life as her life partner, her better half, these very men will do chamchagiri of Priya and worship the ground she walks on.. And if she is disrespected by them, I am sure Ram will not spare them and will tell them off curtly for hurting Priya.. Imagining such a scenario, I already have a huge grin on my face..
And after Vedika and her husband, here we have one more fake dikhawa couple, Maitri and her husband.. It is so funny how they act all privileged.. Good that Priya put them in their place giving them a royal ignore...She walked away wanting to wash off the kheechad from her coat, it is more or less symbolized Priya walking away to wash away the kheechad of her past.. By the way about Priya's mother, why is she insensitive towards Priya's feelings, for God's sake her younger son-in-law dated her elder daughter but married her younger daughter, ditching the elder daughter.. And now Meera is doing their khatirdari and she wants Priya too to partake in them, ridiculous.. How can she not care for Priya's feelings? And this is why I say Priya is alone..
I liked Sara and Sandy's equation with Priya.. The little laughter Priya has in her life is because of them and I am glad they are there for her..Though Priya is cynical about almost everything yet they understand where she is coming from..
By the way it was cute when Priya and Sandy mimicked Maitri and her husband..I wonder in the future if there will be a scene Priya mimicks and imitates Ram in his absence, in front of his friends maybe and suddenly the man himself arrives and witnesses this...And Priya is caught red-handed by Ram..It will be a fun scene addition..What say?
After seeing the ice cream scene, I thought how would it be when Ram gets a tub of ice cream to relish and how would Priya react to that.. In Ram's company will she relish the melting delicacy alongside him when he offers it to her or will there be a time when she will hold onto her principles but also whip ice cream from the scratch at home for Ram..And will they fight for ice cream with their spoon, going all 'I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream'... What do you think??
Priya's scene with her father, made me angry and when she cried in the taxi I felt extremely bad...In the future I want her to open up to Ram and weep out to her heart' content at the treatment meted out at her by her father and I want Ram to be the one who wipes her tears listening to her patiently... And yes I am not drawing any comparison but somehow to an extent Priya's equation with her father and her character graph somehow reminds me of Kashaf from Zindagi Gulzar Hai..
But whatever it is I am liking how the characters of Ram and Priya are shaping up..
And finally I have to say this, both Ram and Priya might say they do not need anyone, they are ok alone, but yet somewhere in the corner of their hearts they know they need someone but they are scared to move on and accept it.. Ram and Priya need a champion in their corner.. And in the future Ram will be Priya's champion in her corner and Priya will be Ram's champion in his corner!!
