Nominations of The 55th Annual Grammy Awards 2013

Gramophone Award aka Grammy Awards are all set to honor the outstanding achievements in the music industry. People compare the Grammy Awards to the Emmy Awards for television, the Tony Awards for stage performances, and the Academy Awards for motion pictures. This is truly an award show that is all about music music and more music. The first Grammy Awards ceremony was held on May 4, 1959 and this year it will mark its 55th ceremony. That is a major milestone in itself. The nominations were out for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Before we share the nominations let's look back at some interesting facts about this award show. Time to test your musical ears and brains

Grammy Awards Facts:

  • With 31 Grammy Awards, Sir Georg Solti is the artist with the most Grammy wins.
  • Alison Krauss is the biggest winner among female artists with 27 awards.
  • U2, with 22 Grammy Awards, holds the record for most awards won by a group
  • Snoop Dogg was nominated for Grammy Award 12 times but has not won the award.
  • In 1959, Grammy honored 22 awards, whereas in 2010 they presented 109 awards.
  • In 1989, Milli Vanilli became the first artists to be stripped of a Grammy because it was discovered that the voices on their album weren't original.

Interesting right!! So what about Indian artists? Have they managed to rock the Grammy Awards? Well, yes, we have.

Pandit Ravishankar won the Grammy award three times in 1967, 1972 and 2001. The second Indian to win the Grammy award was Zakir Hussain and he won Grammy award for "Planet Drum" in 1992 and for "Global Drum Project" in 2009. Vishwa Mohan Bhatt won the award in 1994 for his album "A Meeting by the River" and the latest was won by AR Rahman by winning two awards for Slumdog Millionaire in 2010. Hard Rock/Metal is most underrated category, even though the amazing bands competes for just one award. Whereas in the pop and hip-hop mainstream categories, plenty of nominations are given to the hyped Talentless hacks, as there is hardly any competition with few great ones and there and many awards to compete.
