I n the beginning, there were issues about its launch date. Once it start- ed shooting, actress Sudeepa Singh fainted on the sets. The problems with Ardhangini, Zee TV's pet project about the woes of a oh- so-beautiful girl, just don't seem to end. The channel has spent lavishly on the show but so far the TRPs aren't flattering. Story begins Pearl Sahi, creative director for the soap, argues that the main plot is yet to unfold. Ardhangini is about Kan- gana's problems after marriage, she informs. Producer Kinnari Mehtaa agrees. "Kangana and Priyam's wedding will bring an the element of excitement.. that's when the story actually begins," she says. If the story is starting only now what was happening all these months? A source from the creative team claims that Ardhangini was formerly on the lines of Sapna Baabul Ka.. Bidaai. The main concept changed follow- ing the channel's demands. Zee wanted a stylish telly version of Devdas. "In all that gloss and glam- our, Ardhangini lost its soul," is the overriding view. The lead pair is miscast. Copy or not? "Sudeepa Singh and Ajay Krrish imitate Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and Shah Rukh Khan.. they only end up looking silly," points out the source. "Ardhangini was neither meant to ape Bidaai nor is it inspired by Devdas," says a furi- ous Sahi. Mehtaa however sings anoth- er tune, "We knew from day one that we wanted the show to be based on Devdas."
