Update for Mon Nov 27-2006--1st episode
First episode and lots of names,characters to remember and obvious confusion. I am writing whatever I could remember.
Opening song is better than what was in Penn. It looked to me more like a movie song rather than a typical serial opening song. Mallika is seen with some young girls in various locations.
Serial opened with wedding procession in Pondicherry. Malliga is the bride sitting in the car with a gloomy face. Other relatives follow the car. Now she tells one guy Raja to keep your auto ready. I will try to come out when possible. (Seen this Raja in some supporting characters but can't remember which serial?)
They enter the hall. It is mentioned as wedding of Anjali with Ashok.
Today's episode is mostly about introducing the characters one by one. Mallika is in the room crying in front of the dressing table and telling to herself that she is not interested in the marriage. Her mother comes in (Mohini's MIL in Penn) and asks why you are behaving like this at such a time, what people will think really. She says you are fortunate that you are going as a daughter in law to a place where your father and mama (siter's husband) are working for a salary.Don't pine for this Raja,my elder brother's son. If you are married to him, what will be your status and position and if you get married to Ashok, think where you will be, she tells. There is a sky high difference between their levels and also remember that Ashok himself is keen on marrying you.Anjali says she does not want to marry rich people. She also has her own ambitions.
Next is a series of introductions. Anjali's father's name I could not catch but he is Kumar/Penn. He comes into the hall in a dirty dhoti looking haggard. Anjali's father is Chakravarthy (Mohanasundaram/Malargal). He is rich and his business friends tell him how you agreed to this marriage because the girl's family seem very ordinary.. Chak says his son Ashok was interested in marrying a homely girl and not a girl of their status and so he had to agree. Now Anjali's father comes to his sambandhi and tells him something about getting salary of Rs.10,000 working in his Maya mill.. Chak gets embarrassed and tells him not to talk while chewing betel leaves.
Yamuna is Chak's daughter (Poo/Malargal). She meets Anjali's sister Thilaka (loosu sister of Deepa in Penn). Looks like Bhaskar was so impressed with her loosu acting that here also she acts something similar. She asks Yamuna why she is not wearing Pattu saree. Yamuna says she is not wearing that saree because it is made by killing insects. Yamuna says she is studying journalism..
Next Yamuna meets a union leader in her dad's mill and his wife, Kaveri, Anjali's sister (Jamuna/Penn) He tells her that he is not here in this marriage as a union leader but as Anjali's mama. Kaveri is shown very much interested in jewelry. She asks Yamuna about the diamonds that she is wearing.
Next is Anjali's brother Gunasekaran, AC mechanic (Karthik/Anandam) with his wife (seen in some serials but don't know her name). She is seen wearing lots of jewelry and Kaveri was seen earlier looking jealously at her while walking in the marriage procession.They have a daughter,Sujata,5 years old. Yamuna asks her in surprise that you have a daughter 5 years old? Guna's wife looks displeased and tells her that they got married very early.
Kaveri goes to Anjali's room and grumbles to her mother that her anni is having lots of jewelry and is flaunting it.
Anjali's friends are waiting for her at another place. They tell themselves how really Anjali can come out from there and marry her murai mapillai Ashok.. How do we call her? Now one of them calls up Ashok and he says Anjali has told him to keep the auto ready outside the mandapam and she will come out whenever possible.
Now we are shown Ashok (Kailash/Penn) smoking continuously.. Loosu thilaka come to a room and looks thrilled seeing Ashok. Ashok closes the door and offers her bubble gum. He tells her that she is very beautiful and if he had seen her before, he would have married her. Ashok hugs her without much resistance from her. She says she is very short as compared to him He says so many glamorous girls are short. As they are talking, the door opens and Yamuna comes in and tells her brother that you just saw this girl and immediately you have given bubble gum. I thought you will improve after marriage, she says with disgust.She says whatever you were before, now you have to understand that Anjali is a very good girl and you should keep her properly.He says he wanted a homely girl and not a rich girl. She leaves but after telling him that she can't understand how men can do this double role of wanting to do all their games outside but want a homely girl in the home as wife.
Next scene is our Abirami/Anandham standing outside with a child in hand.(damsel in distress?)
