Ashu swapped as Amit Verma is the new Dev in Annu's life

'Annu Ki Ho Gayee Waah Bhai Waah' is going through quite a change as Dev Keswani, who played the male lead character of Ashu, has been asked to leave the show.

Based on sources, the production house was not convinced that Dev was being competent enough to express the shades the character demanded. Dev was in a shock when the production informed him that Amit Verma would be playing his character as he had failed to do justice to the character.

Sreejita plays Annu in the show and she was amazed as well with the production's prompt decision; she even made an attempt to convince the production to reconsider Dev, but it was all in vain.

Now, the concerned Sreejita AKA Annu is hoping that Dev bags a new project. Isn't Annu simply charming? Well, no wonder we hear everyone say, "Annu Ki Ho Gayee Waah Bhai Waah."

Comeback trail

Popular actor Amit Varma will be seen on the small screen after a gap of a year. Amit, who had taken a conscious break from television, had recently joined Baa Bahu Aur Baby for a small role. He has now replaced Dev Keshwani to play the role of Ashu in Annu Ki Ho Gayee Waah Bhai Waah on Star One.

Annu Ki…which essays the story about a simple girl Annu and her talented skill of being an excellent cook will see Amit play her love interest in the show.
Amit will be seen in an altogether new avatar, sporting a stud look and playing a die - hard romantic. Apparently the reason for producer Deeya and Tony Singh to replace Dev with Amit was because the story was to take a new twist, and they required a mature actor to play the character.

"We have always wanted to work together, but things never worked out due to clash in dates. But now finally this time when they approached me, I was able to take it up. They are definitely one of the best producers to work with. They have come out with some of the best shows on TV "says Amit.

Amit Verma's Kismet Konnection

Amit Verma, Birju of Baa Bahu Aur Baby, got his big break with Aziz Mirza's Kismet Konnection which is releasing this June. We had a chat with the actor to find out about the film, his experience and more.

Role in Kismet Konnection

"I am playing an important part in Shahid and Vidya's love story. It is a love triangle and I am third angle in it. I will be seen in one song which is very nice. Since it is my first movie I liked all the songs of the movie though I have not listened to all. I was present at the filming of two songs apart from my one. I am not allowed to disclose much about the movie but I have finished shooting and am eagerly awaiting the release."

Experience working with Shahid-Vidya and Aziz

"I enjoyed working with both. They helped me a lot. We used to rehearse for every scene and they made me very comfortable. Aziz is also very nice and pampered me a lot. He never treated me like a newcomer and gave me all liberties and co-operated with me very nicely. The common factor between us is that we both are very discipline so we had no issues while filming."

Television

"It is quite hectic for me to run from one sets to the other. Moreover, I have to completely switch on and off as two characters I am playing are going through completely opposite phases. In BBB, I doubt Baby and Anish's relationship and on the other hand in Annu (main lead), she has rejected my proposal. But I am getting good feedback for my roles."

"I am not fit for saas bahu serials"- Amit Verma

Chocolaty-faced actor Amit Verma would soon be seen in Aziz Mirza's film Kismat Connection. The actor talks about his career graph and also what he would like to be five years from now.

How do you find working with the freshers in Anu Ki Ho Gayi Wah Bhai Wah?
It is very nice working with all the fresh faces. I completely understand the pressure all freshers have to go through. I try my best to be nice to all of them. Even we get to learn from all of them; especially their energy level is something I would want to imbibe from them. They all are very cooperative people. Definitely I am looking forward to a great time with everyone.

We have heard that the channel replaced the previous actor as he had a gayish look…What's your comment on the same?
I really can't say anything about this. The replacement was been decided by the channel and the production house so it's their issue in which I would not like to interfere. I was offered this role, so I am doing it and that's it.

You are also working in Baa, Bahu Aur Baby. So how do you manage time between the two shows?
To be very honest it's really difficult to manage time. In Baa, Bahoo Aur Baby, my character is having a love triangle which requires lot of scenes. Here in Annu Ki Ho Gayee Wah Bhai Wah too, I am there in almost every scene. Though I am always running, I love it as it's my own choice to do two shows at the same time.

Are you happy with your career graph?
I am really satisfied and happy with the graph. Today I am a celebrity but at the same time, I am not over exposed. I have done one film too. Right now I am concentrating on both television and films. Everything is balanced in my career, so I am content.

Tell us more about the film?
This is Aziz Mirza's film called Kismat Connection. The film is already completed and I have a prominent role in it. The film will be releasing this year. Right now, I can tell you only this much as I am in contract with the production house.

What would be that one thing you would like to change in television…
One thing which I would like to change would be more liberty to actors to perform with lesser pressure. Nowadays the actors are doing two or more serials at a time because of which they have to work endlessly to meet the deadlines. According to me, I would want my script to be given well in advance so that we actors can do the homework in our best way possible.

Can we expect you to see you in the next season of Nach Baliye…? If yes who would be your Baliye?
I don't think you would be able to see me in next season of Nach Baliye as I don't have my partner. But I love dancing so if I find a right partner by next year, then definitely I would take part. I really like the concept of the show.

We haven't yet seen you in a saas-bahu kind of a show…Why?
To an extent it was my deliberate decision. I feel I am not fit for those roles as I haven't prepared myself for saas-bahu shows. I always want to try different kind of roles and (touchwood) God has been kind enough to give me diverse roles.

Where do you see yourself in, five years from now?
Five years from now, I would like to see me as a successful actor, though I am confused whether I would want more success in films or television…(smiles)

Keswani unaware of the reasons for his axe

Amit Verma might have easily settled into the shoes of Ashu in Annu Ki Hogayee Wah Bhai Wah, but one person who is still in a state of shock is Dev Keswani who was suddenly axed from the show. A very confused Dev to this day, does not know the right reason behind his sacking. "I really do not know why I am out of the show", says the actor in total disbelief.

Echoing the channel and production house statements, he says, "They say they wanted a macho image for the character of Ashu, and my soft look did not gel with the character. But can I ask them one question as to why was I signed for this role in the first place?"

Another buzz going around is that the channel's creative team felt that Dev had a gayish look which did not suit the character one bit. But, all's well that ends well as far as the channel and production house are concerned, as they have replaced Dev with Amit Verma, who is very experienced in all aspects!!

When asked Amit about the reason for replacement, the actor got diplomatic and said, "Well I really don't know what is going on between them. I am only concerned about my role". All said and done, it's time now that Dev Keswani moved on and got a hold of his life!!

Taare Zameen Par's songs made Amit Verma cry

Amit Verma, the chocolate-faced actor of Television has a liking towards English music. The actor says, "I am listening to more of the hip-hop numbers as of now". When it comes to his favorite, he is head-over-heels for Eminem's songs.

An actor with a great ear for music, a lover of original music, the actor likes the songs of Taare Zameen Par very much. An emotionally touched Amit says, "I actually cried while listening to the songs of Taare Zameen Par, whether it was 'Maa' or 'Dekho Inhe'."

Amit believes that both the old songs and the new ones have their own charm and they cannot be compared. When it comes to listing his five all-time favorite songs, Amit says, "'Every Breath you take' by Police, 'Please Forgive me' by Bryan Adams, 'Stan' by Eminem, 'Without you' by U2, 'Dekho Inhe' from TZP are my favourites".

When quizzed about his favorite romantic song, the actor immediately says, "It has to be 'Everything I do, I do it for you' by Bryan Adams. Last but not the least, on answering to the million dollar question of whether he believes that 'Old is Gold', the actor says,". I definitely agree with the statement. Old is always gold. Be it alcohol, actor or music".

Replacement still a hot favourite in telly soaps

Replacement of actors and actresses seems to be a favourite trend among the channels these days.

After Smriti Irani making a grand come back as Tulsi and replacing Gautami Kapoor in Balaji's Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi, the next one to join the gang is the seasoned actress Krutika Desai. After having won audiences' hearts as Reena Kapoor's mother-in-law in Sahara One's Woh Rehne Wali Mehlon Ki, Krutika has now replaced Anisha Ahuja in Star One's Annu Ki Ho Gayi Waah Bhai Waah to play Amit Verma's step-mother.

Interestingly, Krutika had replaced Kamya Punjabi in the former too. Krutika says, "It was never a conscious effort. The offers came in and I found them quite interesting so I went for them. I would call it a mere coincidence that both these characters had been played by someone else earlier but I really don't know why they are not a part of these shows any more." This trend might be getting more TRPs for the channels but the fact that these replacements break the link and the emotional bonding between the audiences and the actors cannot be overlooked.

'SPA is Star's way of thanking actors'

Baa Baho Aur Baby's chocolate boy Amit Verma aka Birju and Benaf have been nominated in the Favorite Yogya Jodi category at this year's Star Parivaar Awards.

"From December I had started shooting for the character and within 4 months I have got the nomination so I was quite surprised. But then it goes to show how much people have liked the character and the character itself is a magical creation," says Amit.

About the concept of Star Parivaar Awards, Amit says, "It's obviously good and in a way it is Star's way of thanking actors because we work day and night for the shows. The awards nite then also becomes an occasion of catching up with the other actors whom one otherwise cannot meet. We can party hard and have a blast."

Amit considers himself to be a performer and likes dancing too. He was even approached to perform at the awards nite but due to sudden last minute changes, he will not be performing.

Ridheema Tiwari, who acts in the popular serial Annu Ki Hogai Wah Bhai Wah on Star One and is also part Simply Sapne, a soap on Zee Next, will now be seen doing an item number from the highly popular title song from the film No Entry in the popular Zee TV serial called Saat Phere. But even though the actress has performed all her roles with aplomb till date, it was not an easy task for her to shoot for the song which was performed by none other than Bipasha Basu. Not only was Ridheema found wanting in the dancing department, but the multitude of delays and hitches also made it tough for her to perform well. However the actress made up for all those shortcomings with her brilliant acting. Her expressions and enthusiasm while doing the song outdid the problems in the show. "My tanned look and my hair do also came in handy. I know that the expectations were too high, but I did my best and performed well. I am indeed happy that I did what I wanted to do desperately — dance," says the actress.
