Transcript of LIVE CHAT with TV actor,Sumeet Raghvan at 12 noon on Wednesday, June 1 , 2005 in Mumbai Sumeet Raghvan TV actor "I started my career as a child artiste in 1983 and acted in six plays. And my first assignment was for a serial called Shrikant. I disagree that child artistes don't make successful (adult) actors." Rali > You started off so young as an actor. How did it happen? Which was your first assignment as a child artist? Sumeet Raghvan > Well, I started my career in 1983. I started off by doing children's theatre. I acted in six children's plays. It all started when during my school vacation (my) mom happened to see an ad for an acting workshop in the newspaper. So, I enrolled my self for the workshop and it went further from there. My first assignment (as a child artiste) was for a serial called Shrikant , which starred Farrookh Sheikh and Sujata Mehta. Meena > Are you like your character "Sahil" in Sarabhai versus Sarabhai? Sumeet Raghvan > I am absolutely different. I tend to react on situations. I can be hot-tempered as also absolutely funny. Gehar > Sumeet, it is said that child artistes do not make very successful actors when they grow up. Please comment. Sumeet Raghvan > I would like to deny this because it depends on an individual and how good they are. Higs > Do you like doing comedies more or acting in a tragedy? Which one has more potential for an actor to show? Sumeet Raghvan > I love doing comedies, and I think comedies have more potential for an actor (to show off his talent) because it is serious business, as you have to make the audience laugh. Rani > You have done quite a few ads also. How come a serious actor like you opted to do ad commercials? Sumeet Raghvan > I opted to do commercials because of the money. Hsghg > When is your birthday? Are you married? What are your hobbies? Sumeet Raghvan > My birthday is on 22 April, 1971. Yes, I am married and have two kids – a son and a daughter. Hobbies - Like to spend time with my kids and in meeting old college friends. Clod > Are you still doing theatre? How do you find the time for it, especially since being on TV takes up all the time? Sumeet Raghvan > I am doing a Gujarati play right now and there are couple of serial actors in that play. We have told the Play producer that we would be able to perform only on Sundays. Tina > Trying your luck in Hindi films? How come we haven't seen you in any Bollywood film till now? What sort of role do you see yourself playing in a Hindi film? Sumeet Raghvan > Honestly, I haven't tried for films, as TV is keeping me occupied. Film is like an ocean - need to have contacts otherwise you keep on floating around. I would like to do a commercially successful role so would love to do movies. Kali > Sumeet, we know so little about you. Please do tell us something about yourself. Is your wife an actress too? Are you a Gujarati? Sumeet Raghvan > I am a south Indian. My wife is also an actress (Chinmayee is her name). She does Marathi theatre. We have done three plays together and that's how we met. I am absolutely fun loving but I need my space and I prefer not to work 30 days in a month. I like to divide my work and fun. Jackie > Why is that you keep such a low profile? Most TV stars and models like to be seen, heard and written about. Sumeet Raghvan > I am not a party animal and being seen and written about doesn't give me a high. I would like my work to do the talking. I like my privacy. Meena > What are your future plans? Will you direct film/TV/theatre in the future or continue as an actor? Sumeet Raghvan > Right now, it's acting and I really don't know anything about the future. Sign Off Message > Thank you for logging on and god bless. Love, Sumeet. |
