Chapter 13
"I don't get it. Why would you want to get to me? What have I ever done to you?"
Rohit laughed hysterically. "What have you ever done to me? I admit that you have never done anything to me, but your father, now that's another story."
"Wha-"
"No, no. Now I'm going to tell a story and it's rude to interrupt isn't it. I think you have those many manners at least. So you must be wondering what your father has to do with this story right? Vikrant Singhania, the most well-known name in the DIA, fearless and known to get the job done, quickly and neatly. That is why he was sent on the most dangerous missions.
Let me tell you about a young boy. This young boy was only 7 years old. He was at an impressionable age, but old enough to remember what was going on around him. He loved his father very dearly. His father was his role model, his superhero. This young boy, his father and his mother all lived a peaceful life in the beautiful state of Kashmir, surrounded by the snow and the mountains. But that all changed on one fateful night.
The night itself was calming and serene but what occurred that night was chaos. A mob of people in masks went around, setting fire to houses and ruining everything that came in their way. For that young boy, it was hell. He did not know what to do or where to go. His father had taken him and his mother out of the house and hidden them in a ditch. He had then gone off to check on his brother, whose house had been set on fire. The young boy was terrified. The smoke was taking over his body. He couldn't breathe, his vision was clouded and before he knew it, he was unconscious. The next day came and the horror took over. Yes he and his parents had survived but they were left with nothing. No house, no shop, no clothes, no money. Only bones and ashes everywhere. That image scarred the boys mind. He knew that whatever came, he would not be able to forget what he had witnessed. And if that wasn't enough, his chacha's family had not survived. There weren't even body's left to bury. His father was devastated. Those few days were a blur. He could not understand what was going on. Why was his father constantly crying? How would they survive without money? Why would people destroy their house? And who were these people? "It was them" his father replied. "Those people who do not want for Kashmir to become independent and strong. Those people who are scared of how powerful we will become if we become united. But it is time to show them. We will be united and we will fight against them. We will make Kashmir and independent state and show these people what Kashmir can do."
And so it started. His father joined a group of likeminded people, people who believed that Kashmir as an independent state would be better of everyone. The young boy knew what the group was doing. He knew of their actions, whether it was burning houses or making bombs. But he didn't feel guilty. After all the people his father was fighting against had destroyed his life, had they not? But what the young boy didn't know was that life would only get worse.
This is where Vikrant Singhania comes in. He was the best officer in the DIA, so it was only fitting that he would get sent to deal with the acts of so called terrorism in Kashmir. And deal he did. What Vikrant Singhania did not know was that he would meet his match in Kashmir, the young boy's father. He was smarter, quicker and more cunning than anyone Vikrant had faced before. He would strike in the dark and shrink back into the shadows. Vikrant had no idea how to face this unknown enemy. So he did what only a coward would do. He went after the family. He was able to find the boy's mother and kidnapped her, negotiating her release for the head surrender of her husband. And he came. Her husband loved his family very much and he could not see anything happen to them. Once he was captured, Vikrant let go the boy's mother. But she did not know that she would never see her husband again.
It happened like this. Once the boy's father was captured, he thought it was best to try to run. He knew that it was no use staying here, he would get punished harshly. So he took the first opportunity to sprint. But that one action cost him his life. Vikrant proved to be just a fraction faster than he did. Four bullets were found embedded in his torso. The boy's mother was also snatched away from him for allegations of also being part of the group. He never saw her again either. He was shoved into one of many orphanages, left to fend for himself. In one swift move, the young boy had lost his father, mother and his uncle. That was when the boy grew up. He knew that nothing was fair in this world, and if he needed to get somewhere, then he would have to fight. The boy became a killer, cold as stone.
However, destiny wasn't all that cruel to him. He was soon adopted by one of the most well-known businessmen, Mafatlal. The boy then had the means to succeed. And not only succeed, but to take revenge from the person who had caused him this pain. Once he was older, he found out that Vikrant Singhania had died long ago due to a heart attack, but had left behind a son. Coincidently the son was the same age as him. The boy knew instantly that this was who he would take revenge from. Father or son, it didn't matter. Someone would have to pay. The boy joined the JeM, just like his father and helped them become a major organisation. He brought them to what they are today. But he never let go of his main goal. To seek revenge for his father.
By now you must have realised who that boy was. But if you haven't then let me tell you Aakash. That boy was me. Rohit Mafatlal. Nobody would ever guess that the young boy who lost everything would become the son of a powerful businessman. But I did it. I made it till here and I'm not going to back out now. I will finish you off Aakash, once and for all."
