Chemistry is something you can't create. It has to be either have it or zero.

Thanks for the article. Chemistry is imp. The audience needs to root for characters who they feel match each other

But sometimes when you keep watching a show, 2 characters b/w whom you didn't see much chemistry, starts looking appealing coz of the storyline and the characterisation. I remember just at the start of a (now) very popular SP show, the FL was not liked much by fans (on IF) but slowly they warmed up and now that couple is one of the fan favs.

I kinda agree with both the comments mentioned here. You can't create chemistry, when the two people share the screen. At times the chemistry is strong enough to make you feel something, when the couple is completely new and have just met, and are not in a trip fall position, or an eye lock. There is just something about their presence which tells you something great is coming. Other times it scene just during the romantic moments or scenes. Few times you feel nothing at all when you see a couple. Though the story line may help attract the audience, getting them to like the couple, but with so many serials going on, you need to attract your viewers right away and doing that with just the story line takes time and if the leads have no spark, not many wait. Then again if you have leads with a rocking chemistry and a horrible, story line, people aren't going to stay for much longer either.
Magic between the leads that will hook the audience instantly and an amazing story line, especially between the couple, is what will maintain the interest

I strongly feel 75% is the characterization of the leads. If the script writer has vizualised this chemistry he pens it that way. every eye-lock, that smirk, that whiff of air, that bg score, the lighting is all what goes into creating chemistry. After that it all depends on the leads to bring that chemistry to life.

Also if the script does not demand it the actors cannot bring it out. Its not the actors who decide whether chemistry is demanded in a scene or not. Its the script and director who decides the scene demands creation of chemistry by leads.
