Chapter 2 :" The Heiress "

Shyam looked at the girl before him and wondered how can one be this uncorrupt by the world, she had an air of innocence around her just like his wife. He had seen many prospective clients but none like her. 

" So let me see if got it correct, Miss Khushi. You want me to find a way to break your grandparents' will and ensure you are no longer the beneficiary of the trust fund they left for you " he asked her trying to summarize what he heard for the last thirty minutes. 

" Yes, you can donate the money to charity I don't care but I want it gone " Khushi answered back leaving him stunned, it wouldn't be easy to come to the decision considering the fact she could come into a wealth that could probably keep her secure for five generations. 

" May I ask why ?" he asked her because as a lawyer he is entitled to do as the client wishes but he is also required to advise them on the proper course of action. 

" Do you know how many suitors I had, too many to count, and not one of them was interested in me? I can't marry a person who just wants my money and my parents refuse to let me stay single and most of all it was that stupid will that caused my sister heartbreak" She answered back as her eyes misted with tears, though he understood her perspective, still he believed she was being a bit rash with her decision. 

" Why don't you take a week to think it through and I will check if they are anyway to untangle the will " he answered back as she walked away he hoped she would change her mind. 

When the next client entered his office, he let a sigh of frustration, because, unlike Khushi, this visit would be the total opposite. 

"Hello, hi bye-bye. How is my favorite Damad? " the voice greeted him as his family took the seat before him. He wanted to answer I had been fine until your visit but he doesn't think his wife would approve so didn't voice out those words. 

" I am your only Damad, and we just talked about it last week, Arnav will not like it that you are here, come on don't let me get caught between your crossfire. He was the one who allotted your monthly allowance and I can't extend it " Shyam answered back, while his wife's aunt was generous to love, she was also generous to spend. 

At first, he didn't understand the rule considering Arnav spoils his sister but later learned the rules were meant to curtail her expensive shopping habit which leads to her being swindled by everyone who learns of her unlimited purse. 

" We weren't this wealthy until Arnav took over the family business Shyamji. But when we got rich, Arnav gave us all free rein with the finances. The first time Mamiji brought a Vase which was supposed to be thousand years old and paid an enormous sum for the same, turned out to be a vase made just two months ago.     

The next time it was diamond jewelry that was supposed to be worn by an Indian princess which turned out to be fake diamonds. And Arnav doesn't want her to learn about it and feel bad so she never knew about them either. To prevent her from such incidents Chote laid down the rule any purchase above her monthly allowance should be approved by him " his wife explained to him back then and he understood their reason yet it wasn't easy to always say no to her either.  

" Fine, who is the girl that left the office before him. She didn't look like your client " she asked him next and he was relieved to know she was not going to ask for more money from him that he told a little about his client in hopes of changing the topic

"Hello, hi bye-bye. Is she mad " she spoke up once he finished telling her but he didn't think she was mad just someone who isn't corrupted by the power of money yet and wondered if she will find someone who loves her without it being a consideration. 

Back then Shyam didn't know he set in motion a chain of events, that his wife's aunt's greed will play a crucial part in the life of others.

" Khushi don't tell me you did it " her sister's voice reached her but Khushi pretended to sleep, she shouldn't have told her sister about the lawyer visit but they never had any secrets that it kind of slipped out, and because of that her sister knew she wasn't really asleep and threw the blanket cover away in an attempt to get her to Stop Pretending. 

" I know you are not asleep, answer me or I will tell maa right now " her sister spoke up leaving her with no choice but to open her eyes. 

" Fine, I met with him, but don't tell maa or papa. I think I can finally get rid of it di" Khushi answered back with a smile, when she learned of her inheritance at first she didn't want it because it came from the people who didn't want her. 

Then she realized how it can help others ,and her dream to own a bakery would be made possible . She had big plans to expand her father small sweet shop and add her own menu of desserts and cakes to enrich everyone life . 

She went with her parents to collect the fund and in her enthusiasm she had shared it with all her friend's only to learn the inheritance was tied up until she got married . Maybe it was her greediness that caused the chaos afterwards as she who was always looked over for her beautiful sister suddenly became the girl who was wooed by too many suitors. 

Khushi learnt to live with it , because Payal di was the eldest her parents didn't push her to choose one among them until she became the reason her sister marriage ended ,one of her idiots friend passed it to someone else and somewhere along the line the information changed and claimed it had been her sister who was rich instead of her . 

'" We don't need anything from your family ,just your daughter " they had said and what a lie it had been because the friend who happen to attend the wedding being a distant relative of the groom set them straight and with it her sister dreams got broke because of her . 

It was why she was determined to get rid of the money , giving it back to charity was the right solution for all of them . 

" Khushi ,no one really knows about it in this town . So why bother to do it? " her sister asked her but Khushi knew there is really no secrets in the world , a big secret like her will not stay hidden for long and she had no intention of getting a long line of suitors all over again because she has a business to build and find the one who love her enough to not care that she has no inheritance .

Devyani had seen it all in her life and if only she could see her chote settled than she would be content with her life. She met Payal on a wedding she attended few years back , Payal had been the bride , even after her marriage got broken she was consoling her sister and parents first . 

It was that trait that made devyani admire her , and when she met Payal yesterday as she dropped of the desserts from her father shop it felt like fate .

" Your grandson insulted my daughter , did you invite me to get insulted? " her friend was causing a scene and Devyani didn't know how to calm her down until Payal walked towards them with a tray full of sweets. 

"My dad used to say whenever you feel like saying mean words you should eat a sweet instead ,once you mouth is filled with the sweetness then the words will fade away as well " her calm voice made her friend cool down immediately as she took a sweet from the tray with a smile . 

" See Devyani , we are getting schooled by a young girl but she got a point . We have been friends for so long ,that I don't want my words to spoil it and you know what you should give this entire box to your grandson " her friend answered back and laughed at her joke but this time her words didn't have the meanness like before, so she turned around to thank the young girl but she already left but not before making Devyani determined that Payal will become bahu of this house .
