Chapter 4 : The DEAL
As our eyes locked, my heart started beating fast and it wasn't because of fear, it was because hell was about to loose. He broke the eye contact and turned towards Caden giving him sharp nod and left the room.
"Let's go Shivani." Caden asked me to follow him while Stefan waited outside. My legs were shivering as I followed him out of the door, through the corridor. Caden stopped at the door and knocked it before turning back at me. "Go in."
"What about you?" I asked in a small voice laced with fear.
"I will wait here. You go in." I wanted to beg Caden to come along, to not leave me alone but I just nodded my head instead and opened the door. Slowly I entered the lion's den as feeble as a prey waiting to be hunted. The first sight I came across walking in was of the predator who was looking out of the window.
Some silent moments passed and no one chose to break them. Finally he turned towards me, his eyes looking right through my soul as he said aloud, "What do you need?" Shivers ran through my arms hearing his deep voice.
"I.. um… deal… son… kidnapped." I didn't even manage to mutter out a proper sentence. He raised his eye brows at my struggle. "My son got kidnapped this morning. I need your help to find him." He gave me look before nodding his head, encouraging me to speak further and I did. I shared every single detail since the morning.
Once I finished he replied, "I'll help you. But you know the drill. I'll help you and in return you will do one thing I ask you to." I agreed to his condition and he smirked in return. A cute dimple sneaked into his cheeks just as he did.
"Let's do it then!" And he walked to towards the chair behind the table which was situated in the centre end of the room. I think heard him whisper, "Damn those Goenkas."
…
Fifteen minutes later, I found myself sitting opposite to the man of hour himself with a contract paper on my hand. My fingers ran through the pages as I turned them, eyes reading the words written in bold while my mind tried to remember them. I looked up to the man who sat opposite to me. He didn't look back instead sat very comfortably, his finger wrapped around the lighter as he lit the cigarette trapped between his teeth.
"Is this all?" I asked out aloud to him and rolled my eyes in frustration when he didn't bother to reply. "Something's not right. I don't understand this! Don't understand the clauses or the agreement." I said again, this time trying to make an impact by dropping the file on the table with a big thud. He didn't even blink an eye.
"What's there not to understand?" He finally replied in a husky voice after what seemed like an eternity. His blue orbs piercing into my black ones. "The contract is very simple. Perhaps you can't read properly, do you want me to call a translator for you? Someone who can read it out loud for you to understand."
I shot daggers at him through my eyes for his mocking statement. However he looked back at me completely unbothered. Shaking my head to control my anger, I took a breath and replied, "What I mean to ask is how does this work?"
He sighed in annoyance and spoke in a tone as thou speaking was a big favour he was doing for me, "Its simple love. You asked me for a favour and I will fulfil it, in return you would have to do the same. I will do whatever you say, not caring about the work or the consequences followed. When the time comes, you would have to do whatever I ask you to. No questions asked. I can't make it more simpler than this!"
I pondered for a moment rethinking my decision of coming to him. But, I had no choice. Only he could help me at this point and I badly needed him as much as l would like to deny that particular fact. I was playing with dangerous water here.
"What will you ask me to do?" I asked afraid for the first time in my life. He just shrugged in response which made it more worse. "Will you ask me to do illegal works for you?" He was known for his illegal activities and his various scams. What if he wanted me to get involved too? I could not afford being part of his evil plans. I had too much to lose.
He gave a me look before bursting into a laughter. I looked back at him confused and a little annoyed. "You think I will give you the opportunity to work for me? Get involved in my business? You're cute."
Right then I wanted to punch him hearing his arrogant reply. Punch that smirk right off his face but on the same time I was relieved to a greater extent. So I let it go. After all I did need him. I could save all these actions for future. 'Also business? Really? Did these criminals label their crime as business. That's cute.'
"Can you please hurry. I don't know about you but I sure have a lot to do." He interrupted my chain of thoughts. "And I thought you were the one in hurry. Remember the clock is ticking."
Reality kicked in my sense as he said that. I quickly took a black pen from his table, which was very organized. Neat and clean. If only he as a human being was that clean. My mind kept running back and forth at the thought as I signed those papers. Handling him the papers, I took a breath of relief. As weird as it may seem, I felt as though half of my problems were solved just by signing those papers.
"Well done. Just remember a thing, from this point onwards there is no going back." He stated in a firm tone and all I could do was nod. "Very well. Your package will be delivered to you by midnight." Saying this he started walking out.
"How dare you call my.." I shouted behind him but he was long gone. As the silence of the room greeted me, I thought about my decision again. Slowly falling into the couch I occupied earlier, heart beating fast, I let my reality sweep in.
I just made a deal with the devil.
…
Silence greeted when I entered my house. It had been an hour since I left the devil's place. Caden dropped me and Stefan. When I got off the car, Caden held my arm and whispered in my ears, "Don't worry Shivani. He will bring your kid back. Your son will be fine. He does what he promises." I couldn't answer anything so I just smiled at him. I still couldn't understand the level of trust Caden shared with the devil.
The door bell rang and I wondered who it could be. I had refused Amna when she had insisted to come and wait with me. I just wanted to be alone. I opened the door to find a weird looking, purple costume wearing man standing outside. The man and his costume looked familiar but before I could ask him who he was, Aron jumped from his behind.
"Momma!" He hugged my legs as I processed the moment. I quickly got down on my knees and embraced Aron. I couldn't help the tears of joy as I realised my son was finally in my arms, safe and sound.
"Oh baby! I'm can't believe you're here." I said as I kept kissing him on his cheeks and forehead. "Momma is so sorry for everything you had to go through. Really sorry." I kissed him again.
"Its okay momma. Thanos saved me!" Aron exclaimed as I finally connected the dots. The weird looking purple man was supposed to be dressed as Thanos! Wait a minute, he sent thanos to save Aron from the hulk? Talk about the ironical joke. I looked over Aron's shoulder to find the man long gone. The night empty as it could be.
I took Aron in my arms again and closed my eyes in relief all while thinking he kept his part of the deal, what would happen when he askes me to repay him? Will I be able to give whatever he askes for?
