CHAPTER 8

Sanyukta ran down and locked herself in her apartment and immersed herself in tears she absolutely hated the effect he had on her. Randhir in his incoherent mind followed her not wanting to let go of her. He would make everything alright today.

Sanyu he whispered through the door. He could feel she was sitting right by it. Please open the door sanyu. Dont forgive me immediately but atleast listen to what i have to say.

No response.

I wont go from here until you hear me out. Mei raat bhar yahi baithke tumhe sorry kehta rahunga sanyu. Just please talk to me once.

Still silence.

For an hour sanyukta heard him apologize and try to convince her but the pain of all the past years just couldn't let his apology effect him. And then suddenly he went silent.

First she thought maybe he went away but knowing randhir he wasn't one to give up so easily. She waited for some time still there was nothing but silence. Finally she opened the door to a shocking sight.

There randhir lay unconscious on the floor before her apartment. For a moment sanyukta couldn't comprehend as to what to do. Then on an impulse she somehow gathered up all her strength and lifted randhir up giving him support on her shoulder she carried him to her couch with great difficulty.

As she laid him down on the couch she could feel the heat of his body emnate to her own. His body was scorching hot. Her eyes fell on his face. It was as if she was properly seeing him after years. She took in all of his features as if memorizing them. She looked at the eyes which used to be filled with love for her the eyes which spoke more than he ever did. His eyes were swollen as if he had been crying non-stop. There were purple bags under them telling her that he hadn't slept in ages. Wherever her eyes fell on his body all she could see was cuts and bruises. And he looked so lean and thin as if he stopped eating all together.

Anger flaired in her seeing his state. How dare he when we had promised each other that we would never be careless in the matter of our health. She was so angry that her eyes became red and tears came out of them in anger. She started slapping him as hard as possible trying to take out all her frustration on him.

Randhirs eyes opened to a very angry looking sanyukta who was catching his collar. She looked like Jhansi ki rani ready to go for a battle. The sight before him baffled him at first. She was kneeling down beside the couch his eyes were fixated on hers. There was a pain in her eyes the like of which he hadn't seen since he had met her. On an impulse he pulled her closer winding her arms around his neck and taking her waist into his.

I love you he said his eyes speaking the volumes of love he had for her.

I hate you sanyukta replied trying to get away from him. She couldn't bear his sight anymore especially when he was looking into her eyes that way. It was as if he was looking into her soul through her eyes.

Gusse mei ab bhi Jhansi ki rani hi lagti ho tum he laughed even harder. Par pehle se zyada hot lagti ho laal tamatar banke he continued.

Tummm... she started trying to gather words to scold him.

sirf tumhara hun he smiled giving her a puppy eyes.

Sanyu chalo na hum shaadi kar lete hai. Meine to venue bhi soch rakha hai. F.i.t.e. Instead of fire we can take phere around the machines and logo ko khane mei nuts and bolts denge. Sabko pata chalna chaiye na do mechanical engineers ki shaadi hai.

He kept on blabbering incoherent stuff one after the other. By now sanyukta had understood that he was completely sloshed and not at all in his senses.

so jao randhir. Kal baat karenge she said as she got up and switched off the lights. She hadn't even taken one step away from the switch board that he started shouting.

She rushed to him scared as to what might have scared him in such short time.

Randhirr...kya hua she almost screamed as she again kneeled beside him and cupped his face in her hands.

He looked like an innocent child in that moment.

Sanyukta didn't know if she should laugh at his antics or be angry at him.

Be it whatever may sanyukta sat down unable to resist the urge of being near him anymore.

Nai randhir said like a stubborn kid.

Ab kya sanyukta asked angrily.

Bhook lagi hai he said rubbing his tummy. Kuch khane ko do na pleeassseee.

By now sanyukta had decided that it was better to just do what he asked rather than deny him considering his present state.

She got up and walked to the fridge to see what was there.

Soup hai khaoge she called out to him.

Yuck randhir said acting as if he was about to puke. Meine khane ke liye manga hai. khane layak kuch ho to bolo.

MCP she mumbled. Humesha bas mujhe pareshan karna hota hai ise.

Tumhe pareshan nahi karungi toh kise karunga sanyu he whispered into her eyes. It took her a second to realize that he was standing behind her.

Sanyu mujhe tumhare haath ke alu ke parathe khane hai. Mere liye parathe banao na please.

No she said angrily. Meine wo sab banana chod diya hai. Khana hai toh bas yahi hai warna bhuke so jao.

Sanyu dushmani tumhari mujhse haina. Mere bechare tummy ne toh kuch bhi nahi kiya. Please. Pretty please make something yummy for me. He said making an innocent face.

Arrghhh. Fine go sit there I will make it. Mera sar mat khao. And shut up. I don't want to hear a single word from you after this.

Ok he said happily. Complete silence he zipped his lips with his fingers and went to sit on the kitchen platform. As she worked he sat there looking at her silently. But the silence dint even last for 10 minutes.

What she shot back angrily.

Haha. Jo bhi hun ab bhi sirf tumhara hun sweetheart he said as he quickly planted a kiss onto her forehead and ran away from the kitchen before she could hit him with the rolling pin.

And abhi bhi no 1 hi hun. And tumhara boss bhi. Tum as always mere neeche hi reh gayi sanyu. Employee of a call center he laughed as he made faces at her while running around the apartment as she chased him.

I am goanna kill you she shouted as she threw the kitchen utensils to him missing every time. At last unknowingly she threw a knife at him before looking at what it was. This hit the target exactly and cut into his palm. As blood started oozing out of his hand.

Ouuuchhh he shouted in pain as she rushed to him only to realize what had happened.

She made him sit on the couch as she bandaged his hand.

Dard ho raha hai kya she asked concerned.

Nahi he smiled bohot maza aa raha hai. He shot back sarcastically.

Shut up she said.

Ab sach bolo sanyu? Aaj after many years sach mei dard ho raha hai. Tumhare jaane ke baad toh kuch feel bhi nahi hota tha. I missed you like hell sanyu. In my every breath. In my every moment. I've been incomplete without you.

He took her into his arms saying this. This time she did not resist. There were no words she could say as an answer to what he had just said. So she silently lay in his arms for as long as he held her. Then when he finally left her she completed bandaging his hand. And went back to the kitchen.

Within ten minutes she finished making the parathas and served them up on a plate and took it to him.

Ye lo randhir. Kha lo.

Jhansi ki rani tumne mujhe actual mei zakhmi kar diya. Khila do na please. How do I eat with this hand. He said giving her a sad look.

She sat down beside him and took out a bite to feed him. But randhir refused to open his mouth.

Ab kya? She asked. He was testing her patience inch by inch.

Ahaan...no ways...rule is a rule. He said covering his mouth with his hands.

Stubborn Ass as always. She said as she took the first bite and fed him the next which he happily ate.

Sanyukta continued eating and feeding him alternatively as randhir smiled and happily continued eating.

Such yummy food he said as he kissed sanyuktas hand while she fed him the last bite. But your yummier he smiled widely.

She went and placed the plate back in the kitchen and came back with a tablet and a glass of water.

Yeh kya hai he asked.

Zeher she said sarcastically.

Impossible. Its in your hands it cant be zeher he winked at her.

Stop your non sense and have it. You are as hot as the sun.

Wo toh mei humesha se hun sanyu baby . No tablet can cure my hotness.

Eee no ways. Ye toh kadvi hogi he said making a face.

Randhir she gave him an angry look.

Fine fine kha raha hun. Darao mat. But on one condition. You wont leave me alone tonight.

Whatever. Ok. Fine. Have it. She forwarded her hand as he had the tablet and took the water.

He finally settled down on the couch as sanyukta sat beside him and turned off the lights. He kept on murmuring of how much he loved her and missed her and also told her how he had lived every second as a punishment without her. Sanyukta just heard silently as he continued. At one point he had shocked her though.

Sanyu tumhe pata hai mene almost 10 days ke baad aaj sahi se khana khaya hai.

Saying this he caught hold of her hand and slept peacefully holding her hand close to his heart.

I love you sanyu. Was the last thing he said before dozing off to sleep.
