When lies surface
When lies surface
Sanyogita's eyes, once radiant with love and adoration, now dimmed with tears, her vision blurred by the anguish that threatened to consume her. Her body shook, and her hands trembled, as she struggled to come to terms with the harsh reality of Prithvi's infidelity. Salty tears fell onto the pages of Prithvi's diary, where he had poured out his feelings eight years ago, when their love was new and pure.
With a heavy heart, Sanyogita brushed her fingers over their wedding album, memories flooding her mind like a tidal wave. She relived the joy, the laughter, and the promises they had made to each other. But now, it all seemed like a distant dream, shattered by Prithvi's deception. She couldn't imagine where their marriage was headed, or if it could ever be salvaged.
Her mind wandered back to the night before their wedding, when Prithvi had sneaked into her room, disguised as a woman. He had said, with a mischievous glint in his eye, "I've come to meet you for the last time, to end this relationship here." Sanyogita had been shocked, surprised, and confused.
Prithvi had laughed, his eyes sparkling with amusement. "Tonight is the last chance I'll have to meet my girlfriend, so I wanted to make this moment unforgettable, all night long." Sanyogita had been swept off her feet by his charm, unaware of the deceit that lay beneath.
As she reminisced about their wedding day, Sanyogita's heart swelled with memories. She remembered the moment she arrived at the mandap, Prithvi's eyes fixed on her with an uncontainable longing. His gaze burned with an intensity that seemed to pierce through the veil that shrouded her face.
As her sister-in-law gently lifted the red net veil, Sanyogita's heart skipped a beat. Prithvi's eyes locked onto hers, and she could read the depth of his emotions. He was lost, utterly entranced by the sight of her in her bridal finery. His eyes roamed over her face, drinking in every detail, every curve, every feature.
As she stood before him on our wedding day, she couldn't help but notice the way his eyes sparkled like diamonds in the sunlight. His gaze was transfixed on her, his face radiant with a mix of awe and adoration. His chiselled features seemed even more defined, his sharp jawline accentuated by the subtle curve of his smile.
His eyes, a deep shade of brown, seemed to bore into my soul, as if drinking in every detail of my appearance. His eyelashes, thick and luscious, framed his eyes perfectly, adding to their allure. His nose, straight and proportional to his other facial features, gave him a regal look, fitting for the prince of her heart.
His lips, full and inviting, curved into a gentle smile, revealing a hint of his pearly whites. His light brown skin, with a subtle golden undertone, glowed with a warm radiance, as if kissed by the sun itself. His dark hair, perfectly styled, framed his face, accentuating his sharp features.
Prithvi wore a maroon pagri and a golden Sherwani, its intricate embroidery accentuating his natural elegance. The outfit hugged his athletic build, showcasing his broad shoulders and chest, making him look like a true king. I felt like a queen, my heart overflowing with love and admiration for him.
At that moment, time stood still. The world around them melted away, leaving only the two of them, suspended in a sea of love and adoration. Sanyogita's heart overflowed with emotion as she beheld Prithvi's face, his eyes shining with a love so pure, so true. She felt like a goddess, worshipped by the man who was about to become her husband. The memory was etched in her mind like a delicate painting, a masterpiece of love and devotion.
On her first Karwachauth, Sanyogita fasted for Prithvi's well-being and longevity, her love and devotion evident in every moment. Prithvi, too, observed the fast, his eyes shining with love and commitment.
Prithvi's eyes twinkled with mischief as he teased her, "You'll be bored in heaven, Jaan, if you go alone. Bring your handsome husband along, or you'll be lonely." He chuckled, adding, "I've already asked God to deny you entry to heaven without me by your side. So let me do the fasting too with you “
Sanyogita's laughter echoed, her heart skipping a beat at his flirtatious words. Yet, beneath the surface, she pondered the depth of his love. Did he truly want to be with her even in the afterlife? The thought filled her with wonder and gratitude. She felt like the luckiest woman alive, blessed to have Prithvi's unwavering love and devotion.
To surprise her, he even drew intricate mehndi designs on her hands, carefully mimicking the patterns from a mehndi book.
As the moon rose, casting a silver glow over their master bedroom balcony, they broke their fast together. Prithvi fed Sanyogita water, and then they shared a tender moment, feeding each other bites of food. Their love and connection shone brighter than the moon above, filling their hearts with joy and gratitude.
Prithvi's thoughtfulness and love touched Sanyogita's heart, making her feel cherished and adored. She realised that their bond was not just about tradition or duty but about the deep love and commitment they shared. As they gazed into each other's eyes, Sanyogita knew she was the luckiest woman alive to have Prithvi by her side.
As she gazed back, a shadow of self-doubt crept in, and she wondered if Prithvi had been hiding behind a mask of lies and deception all along. When did his love turn to ash? The memories they had created, once treasured, now taunted her, a bittersweet reminder of what could never be again.
The thought pierced her heart like a dagger, leaving her questioning everything. Had their love been a mere facade, a cleverly crafted illusion? The memories that once brought her joy now seemed tainted, like a beautiful painting with a cracked canvas.
Sanyogita's mind raced with questions, each one a reminder of the uncertainty that had crept into her life. She felt like she was unravelling a thread, watching as the intricate tapestry of their love began to fray. The pain of it all threatened to consume her, leaving her with a haunting question: what if their love had been a lie all along?
A scream built inside her, a primal wail of pain and betrayal, but she stifled it, her hand covering her mouth as if to silence the anguish that threatened to spill out. Tears streamed down her face, hot and uncontrollable, as she wept for the love they once shared, for the trust that was now shattered, for the life they once built together.
At that moment, Sanyogita felt like she was dying, like her very essence was being torn apart by the sheer force of Prithvi's betrayal. She was lost, alone, and adrift in a sea of pain, unsure of how to find her way back to shore.

Tears pricked at the corners of her eyes as she wondered if their love had ever been real. Had he truly cherished her, or was she just a convenient companion? The thought of him embracing another woman, whispering sweet nothings in her ear, made Sanyogita's soul ache. She felt like a mere shadow of the woman she once was, her confidence shattered, her self-worth in tatters.
"Why?" she whispered, her voice trembling with anguish. "Wasn't I enough for you? Did you need someone else to make you feel alive?"
The questions swirled in her mind like a vortex, pulling her down into the depths of despair. She felt like she was losing herself, like she was disappearing into the abyss of his infidelity. The pain was suffocating, making it hard to breathe, hard to think.

During the day Anushka stepped into the house, she was enveloped in an eerie silence. She had been looking forward to meeting her sister-in-law, Sanyogita, all day. But as she entered the living room, she was struck by Sanyogita's pale and gaunt appearance.
Anushka's warm smile filled the room as she enveloped Sanyogita in a gentle hug. "Bhabhi, it's so wonderful to see you! I've missed you so much since you returned from Delhi. How was your trip Btw?”
Sanyogita's composure faltered for a moment, but she quickly regained her calm demeanour. "Anu, beta, I've missed you too. How have you been? Sanyogita forced a weak smile, her eyes avoiding Anushka's gaze. “It was...fine, Just some personal work.”
Anushka's instincts told her that something was off and the hesitant tone of her voice.
"Bhabhi, are you okay?" Anushka asked, her voice softening. "You look a bit...tired. Is everything alright?”
Sanyogita's eyes fluttered, and for a moment, Anushka thought she saw a glimmer of tears. But then, Sanyogita's mask slipped back into place, and she smiled again, this time more convincingly.
"I'm just a bit jet-lagged, Anu. Nothing to worry about. Okay now tell me how your life is moving with Zunaid ?” Sanyogita asked with a teasing tone
Anushka's eyes sparkled with concern. "It's fine bhabi . I have been worried about you, bhabhi. You look a bit pale. Did you have lunch ?"
Anushka wasn't convinced, but she didn't push the issue. Instead, she sat down beside Sanyogita and took her hand, trying to offer comfort and support.
Sanyogita hesitated, not wanting to reveal her lack of appetite. "I'm not hungry, Anu. Really, I'm fine. Tell me what you want for lunch ”
But Anushka was insistent. "No I'll not listen, bhabhi! You need to eat something. I'll get you some food." She bustled off to the kitchen, returning with a tray laden with Sanyogita's favourite dishes.
Sanyogita hesitated, but Anushka's persistence won out. She sat down to eat with her sister-in-law, trying to muster up an appetite. Anushka chattered on, asking about her trip to Delhi, but Sanyogita's responses were monosyllabic, her mind elsewhere.
Sanyogita's eyes welled up with tears at Anushka's genuine concern. But she controlled her emotions and she didn't want to show her weakness to Anushka . She felt a pang of guilt for hiding her turmoil from her loving sister-in-law.
Anushka's face lit up with excitement. "And bhabhi, I almost forgot! I'm so eager to meet the new baby! I've already started shopping for adorable little clothes and toys."
Sanyogita forced a smile, touched by Anushka's enthusiasm. "You'll be an amazing aunt, Anu. The baby will adore you."
As they chatted, Sanyogita felt a sense of comfort in Anushka's presence. Maybe, just maybe, she could find solace in her sister-in-law's unwavering support and love.
As they finished lunch, Anushka asked, "Bhabhi, did you take your medicine today? Prithvi bhaiya will be upset if you don't take care of yourself."
Sanyogita's eyes dropped, avoiding Anushka's concerned gaze. "I...I forgot, Anu. I'll take it now."
Anushka's expression turned stern, but her tone remained gentle. "Bhabhi, you need to take care of yourself, especially now. I'll get you a glass of water."
As Anushka bustled off to the kitchen, Sanyogita felt a pang of guilt for worrying her sister-in-law. She knew she needed to pull herself together, for Anushka's sake, if not her own.
Anushka returned with a glass of water and handed Sanyogita her medicine. "Here, bhabhi. Take it now."
Sanyogita nodded . For a moment, their eyes locked, and Sanyogita felt like Anushka saw right through her facade. But Anushka's expression remained concerned, not suspicious.
Anushka's eyes widened as she examined the packet of medicine. "Bhabhi, are you sure this is the medicine Bhaiya got for you?" she asked, her voice trembling.
Sanyogita's confusion deepened. "Yes, why are you asking? What's wrong?"
Anushka's face turned ashen. "This is Misoprostol and mifepristone bhabhi. It's used for medical abortions. Taking it during pregnancy can be catastrophic."
Sanyogita's world began to crumble. "What do you mean? Why would Prithvi give me this?"
Anushka's voice was firm. "A gynaecologist would never prescribe this without your consent, bhabhi if you aren't willing to continue the continue with the pregnancy . It's unethical and dangerous. We need to see a doctor now."
Sanyogita's mind reeled as she grasped the truth. Prithvi's infidelity, his lies, and now this. She felt like she was drowning in a sea of despair, suffocating under the weight of his betrayal. "Could he want to kill our child?" she wondered, her heart racing with fear.
But she couldn't let Anushka see her pain. She forced a fake smile, hiding her tears, but her heart was bleeding with anguish. "Don't worry, Anu, perhaps it was a mistake at the pharmacy. They might have exchanged the package by mistake. And your bhaiya is very serious about his work. You know him, na?"
Sanyogita tried to ease the tension in the room, desperate to protect Prithvi's image. But Anushka's expression remained grim, her eyes narrowed in concern.
"That's what worries me, bhabhi. Maybe work matters to bhaiya, but he should never neglect important matters related to you and the baby."
Sanyogita's facade began to crack, but she quickly composed herself. "I'll talk to him when he returns home. Don't worry, Anu. I'll handle it."
Anushka's eyes lingered on Sanyogita's face, searching for any sign of doubt. But Sanyogita's mask held firm. Finally, Anushka nodded. "Take care, bhabhi. Call me if you need anything. And focus on your health, okay?"
As Anushka turned to leave, Sanyogita called out, "Anu, focus on your studies. Your exams are coming up soon."
Anushka smiled weakly and nodded before departing, leaving Sanyogita alone with her thoughts. The silence was oppressive, heavy with secrets and lies. Sanyogita's heart ached, her mind racing with questions. What had Prithvi done? And why?
As Anushka prepared to leave, she turned to Sanyogita with a determined look. "Bhabhi, I'll order the fresh medicine from online pharmacies and after receiving the parcel you will WhatsApp the photos of the package to me immediately. We'll get to the bottom of this."
Sanyogita nodded, feeling a surge of gratitude towards her sister-in-law.
Anushka continued, "And I'll ask Zunaid to lodge a complaint of medical negligence. This can't be swept under the rug."
Sanyogita's eyes welled up with tears as she hugged Anushka tightly. Anushka reciprocated the hug, holding her close.
At that moment, Sanyogita realised she wasn't as alone as she thought. Her husband may not care for her or their unborn baby, but there were people like Anushka who still loved and cared for her. The thought brought her a sense of comfort, a glimmer of hope in the darkness.
As they pulled back, Anushka's eyes locked onto Sanyogita. "We'll get through this, bhabhi. Together."
Sanyogita smiled weakly, feeling a sense of determination rise within her. She would fight for her baby's life, and for her own happiness. And with Anushka by her side, she knew she could face anything.
