Chapter 1

There you go with another Disney version that poor Shikha has not seen... Actually, I'm very poor in the Disney fairytales, I realise... Anyway, the story, short form and the way I had heard it, is below.😉

The Sleeping Beauty, or La Belle au Bois Dormant (french) was written by Charles Perrault.

So, it all starts with the birth of a princess in a kingdom, and to bless her, the King and the Queen had invited all the fairies from far away lands but one, who was pure evil. But the witch still heard about it and came up, uninvited, furious. She cursed the baby Princess, saying that the girl would prick her finger on a spindle on the day of her eighteen years and die, then she left.

Everyone was scared but the last fairy, who had not yet blessed the Princess calmed everyone down and reminded them that she still could do something. Of course, she would not be able to remove the curse, but she could change it. So, the Princess would fall into a deep sleep, and the whole kingdom would too and she would awake only when her true love would seek her and kiss her and ask her to rise.

As a precaution, the King destroyed all the spindles in his kingdom so that his daughter would be safe, but the evil witch heard of it and made her plans. On the Princess's eighteenth birthday, she returned to the castle with a spindle, disguised as an old woman and went up a tower where she lured the princess using her dark powers and once the Princess saw the spindle, which she had never seen before, she became curious.

The witch proposed to teach her how to use it and consequently, the girl pricked her finger and fell unconscious. At the same time, the whole kingdom fell into a deep slumber and, ahppy, the witch left. The good fairies came and took the Princess back to her bed. They dressed her in the most beautiful gown anyone could imagine and made themselves invisible, waiting for the awakening.

After a thousand years, a Prince who had been lost his way arrived in the kingdom. Things appeared strange to him. It was like there was no life in this land but something was guiding him in. It brought him to the castle that was now surrounded with thorny creepers. He valiantly made his way through and was surprised to see people fallen about, sleeping and snoring.

Upon exploring the castle, he reached the Princess's room. Her beauty captivated him so much he could not stop himself from kissing her lips and wishing that she was alive, and he would have made her his wife, Queen of his kingdom. And suddenly, there came a blinding light that forced him to close his eyes but when he opened them again, the Princess had woken up, looking even more beautiful and the whole castle was back to life.

The Prince and the Princess were wedded soon after, and they lived happily ever after!
