Chapter 7

Arjun spent a sleepless night.  He didn't know what to do.  Rohit was gone, and he was utterly and hopelessly in love with Sakshi.  But what about Sakshi? Would she ever be able to love him? After the conversation of tonight, he wasn't sure anymore if she'd ever be able to love him.

The next day, he went to meet Sakshi early.  After having talked briefly with Sakshi's mother, he went to see Sakshi in her room itself.  He knocked on the door a few times, but when he got no response, he entered the room.  Sakshi was still cuddled in her bed, fast asleep.  She looked like a fairy right there. And it seems she had been crying, these there were still tear marks on her face.

His heart hurt at her tears, he had promised happiness to her, but today she had been crying just because of him.  He decided to tell Sakshi the truth, that he loves only her, and then let her decide what to do.  He went out of the room, after one last look at her sleeping form.

"She's still sleeping," he said to Sakshi's mother.

Sakshi's mother gave him some tea, and both sat down to talk.

"You have to tell her about your love, she's confused.  She's a sensible girl, she'd take the right choice," Sakshi's mom was telling Arjun, when his mobile started to ring.

"Sorry Ma, I have an important meeting," Arjun said after a few minutes, and had to go without being able to talk with Sakshi at all.

After a few hours, Sakshi's sleep broke, and she was finally ready to face what came her way.  She'd meet Arjun, and asked him what he wanted.  If he decided to part ways, so be it, and if he decided to continue and make their relationship work, she'd try her best for him.

She took her shower, and afterwards went out to meet her mother.

"Kya socha hain tumne?" her mother asked.

"I'll meet Arjun and speak with him.  From there we'd decide together what we'd do," Sakshi said.

Running away from problems wont help at all, they'd have to face it.

"I'll be to the temple Ma, and then go straight home," Sakshi said and left.

She took an auto and went to the temple. After doing her prayers, she was returning when she found herself looking at Arjun.

That time, that instant, it was as if everything stopped around to her.  Her heart reacted funnily when she saw him, and she felt her body trembling a bit. All her senses were running haywire. She walked towards him, with something in her eyes.  Even she didn't know what it was, nor that it was visible to the man standing in front of her.

"Aap aur yahan?" she asked when she was standing close to him.

"Yes, I'd been home, but Mama told me that you were here," Arjun replied.

"Sakshi, I have something to tell you," he said gently.

For the first time, Sakshi realised that she didn't want to know at all if Arjun loved someone else. Jealous, she was jealous.  And before Arjun could talk about that other woman, she stopped him.

"I'm sorry for yesterday night, but I don't wanna know anything," she said quickly.

"Really, don't you wanna know who I was talking about!" Arjun said.

"Main aap se kuch poochoon?" Sakshi said. "Will you ever betray me?"

Arjun stared perplexed at such a question, of course he'd never betray her, but if only she would let him tell the truth.

"Sakshi, the girl whom I always loved.." Arjun started but never managed to finish.

"Pehle mere sawal ka jawab deejiye!" Sakshi broke in.

"Never, I can safely say I wont ever betray you," Arjun replied.

"Arjun, do you wanna break our marriage?" she then asked.

Arjun's shock and disgust was enough to show that he didn't want to break their marriage. 

"I don't wanna know anything more. I had a past, and you have your past. It was wrong of me to be angry because of something which happened when I wasn't even in your life," she said and turned away from him.

"Sakshi, what about you? Do you wanna be free?" Arjun probed her.

Sakshi hadnt been expecting such a question, so she looked very surprised at this question.  How could she leave him?

She didn't have any answer for this.  She was a coward she realised, she was also afraid of something, something which was blossoming slowly in some corner of her heart.

"Arjun, ghar chalein," she said and started to walk away.

"Oh god Sakshi, why don't you wanna listen to me," Arjun asked to himself while Sakshi went away.

I have to tell her the truth, he thought and ran after her.

But unfortunately for him, it seemed fate was against him, because somehow or the other he never managed to tell her the truth.  But at least since that day in the temple, things had become as earlier between them. It was almost as if that phone call and everything which happened afterwards never took place.

Sakshi was back to her usual self, and was always happy.  Little did he know that behind those happiness, there lurked a great pain.

As days grew by, Sakshi's feelings for Arjun started to blossom slowly but surely, and with that her insecurity that he didnt love her. First Rohit and now Arjun also loved someone else.

Jalta rahe suraj

Chaand rahe maddham

Yeh khwaab hai mushkil

Na mil sakenge hum

But the fact was that her heart was hurting even more than it had done when Rohit left her.

It was now five months that they had been married, but still they behaved as friends, actually their relationship had never gone beyond this level.

Until one day something happened which changed everything.

Sakshi had been waiting as usual for Arjun to return from work for diner, when it was past midnight and he was still absent.  He'd always inform her when he was late, but this time he didn't call at all.  She had tried numerous times to call him, but his mobile wasn't reachable.  As minutes passed, her anxiety increased, lots of bad thoughts came to her mind.  She tried calling at his office also, but no one knew where Arjun was.

It was almost two in the morning, when she heard someone opening the main door. She rushed there to see who it was, all her fear and love visible in her eyes.

She saw Arjun getting inside, and then all hell broke loose.

Without wasting any time, she rushed in his arms, shocking Arjun completely, though in a pleasant way.

And then she was beating him on his chest with small punches.

"Kahan the aap? Aap ko pata bhi hain how worried I was!" she was shouting to him.

Arjun held onto her wrists to stop her punches, and then gathered her completely in his arms.  Finally, he felt at home completely, he was in no doubt that she cared for him, in fact her feelings went even deeper than that.

But for now, he'd just keep her in his arms, and tightened his hold on her and rested his chin on her head.
