Mahir Sehgal: A rich and successful businessman. One of India's most promising business tycoons under 30. Sumitra Sehgal and Andy Singhania's only son. Kuhu Sehgal's older brother. Bella Kapoor's best friend. 

Bella Kapoor: An extremely successful businesswoman. One who is single-handedly managing the Kapoor group of companies along with her adoptive father Vyankatesh Iyer. Gayathri Iyer's adoptive daughter. Rehan Kapoor's younger sister. Omkar and Janvi Kapoor's only daughter. Mahir Sehgal's best friend.

Kuhu Sehgal-Kapoor: A fashion designer by profession. Successfully runs a  fashion house along with her husband Rehan Kapoor.  Sumitra Sehgal and Andy Singhania's only daughter. Mahir's younger sister.

Rehan Kapoor: The brains behind the R & K Fashions. Vyankatesh and Gayatri Iyer's adoptive son. Omkar and Janvi Kapoor's only son. Bella's older brother and Kuhu's husband.

Sumitra Sehgal: A very successful businesswoman who inherited Sehgal Industries from her father. Andy Singhania's ex-wife. Her relationship with her father is rather strained. Although she inherited her father's property after his retirement, she has still not been able to gain his forgiveness. Mahir and Kuhu's mother. 

Andy Singhania: Sumitra Sehgal's ex-husband. Palomi's current husband. Mahir and Kuhu's father. He used to work for Sehgal Industries when he met Sumitra Sehgal. Sumitra fell in love with him and went against her father to marry Andy. But he was only after her property. Many years and two kids later he realised that there is no chance of Sumitra ever inheriting her father's property and so he left her and the two kids. 

Venkatesh Iyer: Omkar Kapoor's best friend and business partner. He raised  Bella and Rehan after Omkar and Janvi's death. He is only managing the Kapoor group of companies until he can pass it on his kids. Gayatri Iyer's husband. He is childless.

Gayatri Iyer: Vyankatesh Iyer's wife and Bella and Rehan's adoptive mother. Sumitra Sehgal's childhood friend. 

Omkar Kapoor: Vyankatesh Iyer's childhood friend and his business partner. He and his wife Janvi were killed in a car accident when their kids were very young. He entrusted the responsibility of his business and his kids to his best friend Vyankatesh. Bella and Rehan's biological father. 

Janvi Kapoor: Omkar's wife. Bella and Rehan's biological mother. She along with her husband were killed in a car accident.

Palomi: Andy Singhania's current wife. Both she and Andy will not feature much in this story. 

All of the above characters with the exception of Andy and Polomi live in adjacent bungalows in Mumbai's Pali Hill area. Their houses are interlinked and its almost as if they live under one roof. Bella, Rehan, Mahir and Kuhu call Vyankatesh and Gayatri amma and appa. And for them Sumitra in Sumi ma. Andy is dad. Omkar and Janvi are maa and papa. They generally avoid mentioning Palomi at all. And if she is to be mentioned at all she is referred to as P aunty in front of elders and amongst themselves, she is referred to as chudail.

Years ago when Kapoor Group of Industries were facing some financial trouble, Sumitra had very generously lent a helping hand to Vyankatesh and since then, they were housed in the same building. 

Not long after Bella's 18th birthday, Vyankatesh realised that the Kapoor Group of Companies was on the verge of bankruptcy. Essential steps had to be taken quickly before the media got hold of this news. It was then that Sumitra offered financial help to him. But he was reluctant to accept it. So she offered to buy a portion of shares and hence become a partner in his business. So Vyankatesh had sold his portion of shares to her keeping only Omkar's shares intact as only Bella and Rehan had the right over those shares.
