You break my trust
Prithvi slammed the brakes, and the Black Mercedes-Benz S-class came to a halt in the parking slot, its tires screeching in protest. He threw open the doors on both sides, the soft click of the locks releasing, and stepped out first. His eyes narrowed, his jaw clenched, as he strode to the gate where Sanyogita sat, her slender frame shuddering like a leaf.
She was still visibly shaken, her eyes haunted by the memory of the brutal fight on the road. Prithvi's anger simmered just below the surface, his mind replaying the scene where he'd left her alone, vulnerable to those goons. He couldn't forgive himself for that mistake.
As he stood beside her, his eyes fixed on some point beyond the horizon, his chest heaved with suppressed rage. Sanyogita's gaze drifted up to meet his, but he refused to look at her, his expression a mask of fury and self-reproach.
The air was heavy with tension, the only sound the distant hum of crickets and the soft rustle of leaves in the breeze. Prithvi's silence was oppressive, a palpable force that weighed upon Sanyogita's shoulders. She knew he was angry, upset with her, and with himself. The knowledge made her heart ache, her eyes welling up with tears.
Prithvi's thoughts seethed with determination. He would be tough this time, wouldn't let his emotions cloud his judgment. He would protect Sanyogita, no matter what it took. The resolve hardened his features, his eyes flashing with a fierce inner light.
Sanyogita remained silent, her eyes cast down, as Prithvi grasped her hand firmly, his grip a mix of anger and concern. She stepped out of the car, her left leg emerging first, followed by her right, her movements hesitant, like a child being led by a disapproving parent. Prithvi locked the car with a swift motion, the beep echoing through the night air, and strode ahead, pulling Sanyogita along.
The way he held her hand, his fingers wrapped tightly around hers, seemed to convey his frustration and disappointment. Sanyogita didn't resist, her shoulders slumped in defeat, her eyes fixed on the ground. She knew she was at fault, and the weight of her mistake hung heavy on her shoulders.
As they approached the house, Prithvi checked his watch, the faint glow of the dial illuminating his tense features. "11:35," he muttered, his voice low and even, but laced with a hint of reprimand. Sanyogita flinched, knowing that the night was far from over, and the questions, the recriminations, would only begin once they entered the house.
The air was heavy with unspoken words, the silence between them thick with tension, as they stepped onto the porch, the creaking of the wooden floorboards beneath their feet the only sound breaking the stillness of the night.
Fear works inside of him. He unlocked the main door using the spare key and stepped into the flat. Prithvi exhaled a sigh of relief seeing no one in the vast living hall. Sanyogita had become relaxed too.
Prithvi thought that they should reach their bedroom as fast as possible before they were caught by anyone. They were about to take the first stage of the staircase when a voice called them from behind.
" Where have you been so long ?? Why did you two become so late?? Prithvi, Sanyo, is it time to come back home??"
Prithvi and Sanyogita both startled, spun back to voice with trembling expressions. They were bewildered to see Shambhavi standing there in the living room.
Shambhavi eyebrows squeeze together and meet in the midline . Her scolding face turned into shock and worry.
The damaging condition of her grandsons and granddaughter in law grabbed her attention. She saw the bandage on Sanyogita's forehead, also near her right wrist, wrapped in white gauze. Her eyes shifted back to Prithvi's left palm and was leaping by a white gauze. In fearful eyes, she scrutinised his face and found purplish red bruise marks on his right cheek. There was a cut mark near his left lips contour.
Shambhavi's eyes grew extra large in surprise and fear .
" What is this?? Yeh sabs kya hai Prithvi ??" " She looked at him then shifted her gaze to Sanyogita who gave a face of "I caught " " How did you two get these injuries?? "Shambhavi sounded genuinely astonished
Sanyogita didn't dare to face her grandmother nor did she look at Prithvi. She comprehended he was infuriated at her.
Prithvi realised her hand clutching his hand in nervousness. He tightened the grip around her wrist.
Beads of sweat started appearing on his forehead. Suddenly an idea propelled out in his head
He tried to say something but what she would let out was” Grandma " Prithvi mumbled
" What happened? "" Shambhavi sounded tense as she came closer to them. Put her hand on Sanyogita, and felt her trembling
" Sanyo, what happened beta?? Why are you shivering?? And did you two wetted in the rain ?? ""
" Grandma … oh actually… !" Prithvi muttered
In the middle, Sanyogita started sneezing.
Shambhavinoticed this . She let in concerned
"A few days ago you two returned home in the morning Sanyogita and your clothes were all soaked in water. Look today isn't different, beta why did you forget now she isn't alone a life is attached to her …
Sanyogita wasn't in a place to answer.
Prithvi responded with a low voice " I'm sorry… Grandma "
" Okay, we will talk later .. First, go to the room and change into warm clothes. Look, Sanyo caught a cold. Go first. I will send the dinner to your room"
Prithvi took a full breath of relief he didn't look at Sanyogita although.
Sanyogita tried hard to put on a smile. And thought about talking to him in their room.
As soon as they entered the bedroom Prithvi locked the door.
He opened the wardrobe and took out warm clothes for them. And kept them on the bed.
" You should get fresh first. Unless you fall into a fever ". Although he spoke up he didn't look at her. He kept his gaze fixed on the other side. He moved away from her side and walked towards the closest room.
Sanyogita tries to make him look at her
"Prithvi !"...she held him by his right hand..
Prithvi felt the softness of her voice. As usual with the same tone, she called him every time. He could study the pain in her tone . Yet He didn't respond. He removed his hand from her with a jerk instead.
Sanyogita felt a knot in her chest. She didn't stop, she caught him once again on the way and stood before him, said with a soft voice " Listen to me …
Prithvi shifted his gaze to the other side as a gesture to avoid her. He knew this behaviour of his would hurt her and made her cry. He was hurt more.
" just once…. ple… … "she implored. Her voice started to break. Sanyogita holds him by his upper arms.
Prithvi removed her hands and ignored her presence and took another step " Hurry .fresh first. We couldn't let anyone know what exactly happened on the road"
The drop of tear which was held back in the eyes of Sanyogita came out and fell on her cheeks.
15 minutes later there was a knock on the door. Sanyogita opened the door.
The worker came with dinner. Shambhavi Stepped inside and ordered the worker to keep the food on the table. And leave. She exchanges a warming glance between the couple. She saw Prithvi come out from the bathroom while rubbing his hair with a towel.
" Okk now have dinner. It's too late. Sanyo came to beta. Prithvi come let's finish the food"
" Grandma kept the food we will eat after a while "Prithvi proposed
" No.. you two have to finish it now… "Shambhavi denied
" Dadima have you had dinner??..?? " Sanyogita asked with a soft voice
" Yes, beta she had. She was worried for you two and stubborn not to have her dinner but I convinced her anyhow . She needs care right now and she had to take her medicine. You two didn't even answer my phone calls. Now tell me what exactly happened with you two?? How did you two get so many injuries?? ""
Sanyogita's heart began accelerating in fear. Prithvi, who had finished wiping hair, stood near the sofa, looked at his Grandmother then shifted sight to Sanyogita. Before she replied he jumped into the conversation
" Dadima . Tonight my meeting with Mr. Chaturvedi was cancelled as his mother suddenly felt sick. So I suggest Sanyo go on a long drive away from the city. .There was heavy rain going on too. On the way some goons attacked us. So we got those bruises and injuries in the fight"
Shambhavi looked at both of them dumbfounded, she kept her hands on Sanyogita's head and shoulders.
" Million grace to God … that you two return home safely. Why didn't you two inform the police?? Prithvi I didn't expect this from you ?? I know Sanyogita is careless but I believe in you at least you will manage my stubborn, stupid daughter.
..
"I'm sorry Grandma " Prithvi bowed down his head in apologetic demonour.
" If you two had to go on a long drive why didn't you take a bodyguard . Prithvi I know you are a strong man but I will suggest you to keep bodyguards. I really worry for you two nowadays " Shambhavi motioned her eyes in between Sanyogita and her grandson.
"I'm really upset with you tonight. You should at least .You are no longer that bachelor, carefree boy of college life.. .You are a married man, someone's husband now is going to be a father soon."..
" If anything terrible happened tonight, did you imagine what would happen?? Sanyogita is going to be a mother. If by chance anything happens to the child … " Shambhavi stopped, bit her tongue, and swallowed some breath… " I'm keenly disappointed with you this time, Prithvi "
Sanyogita looked at Prithvi, she felt more guilty. She felt low in front of him. She nodded her head sideways. Her eyes become moistened. She kept her hand on her belly to feel the rhythm of her baby.
Prithvi's heart was aching too , twisting, imagining the horrible..he closed his eyes just once and opened them and replied with an apologetic tone
" I'm sorry Grandma…these things will not be repeated next time. But don't worry, we talked to the doctor and both mother and baby are fine. "
"It's okay beta . Don't feel bad But I think you should be more careful about the upcoming baby. " Shambhavi's tone quieter this time
" You are right Grandma. '' mujhe aap hoi karna hoga jo main aaj tak nahi kya… I'll keep bodyguards 24 & 7 for my wife as well as for the safety of my baby . Sometimes we need to be tough with ourselves for the sake of our safety "'' Prithvi said with a gravity voice and then turned his vision towards Sanyogita, the last line although he said to Shambhavi but indirectly tagged to Sanyogita
Sanyogita's heart sinks in the deadly valley. She could feel him pressing deeper underneath those determined tones of Prithvi how much he was growling at her from inside. She didn't dare to smile. She could feel the hidden Sharp gaze of him continuously throwing at her.
Shambhavi took a deep breath and said with maternal affection " thik hai.. now have dinner. Before it would get colder. Come … "
" Dadima , ain't hungry.. " Sanyogita replied with a low voice. She averted her gaze in slow motion and kept it fixed on the floor.
Shambhavi Looked at her dumbfounded
Prithvi noticed this and clenched his fist " Grandma tells her to eat, she can't skip food, not at least sake of the baby .. I have some work for now…
Sanyogita was holding back her tears. She thought in mind " you think you only care for our baby. As if I don't care about our child at all"
then heard Shambhavi's voice
" Prithvi … if you give 15 mins to food it won't lead you to face 1 million crores of loss " Shambhavi's lips curled into a teasing smile " Sanyo, I will not listen to anything else from you from now onwards. "
Both of them had no option except to agree with Shambhavi
They had completed their dinner. A worker came to clean those dinner utensils from their bedroom. Annaya greeted them good night and went out of the room.
Sanyogita decided to talk to him properly. She closed the door and took a deep breath before talking to him but was surprised to see him leave the room with his laptop and some files in his hands.
" What is it?? Where are you going?" " She came, stood, and blocked his path ahead.
" I have so much work to do .. it will be good for you to go to sleep." He sounded cold and disinterested in talking to her . He didn't make eye contact with her
" You can work here too. What came ?" " There was a frown on her forehead. She looked up at him with both anger and hurt in her eyes.
"Agar mein yaha kaam karunga tumhe problem hogi " He still keeps his arrow on the doorway, as if he could breathe freely after stepping out of the room.
" Why are you ignoring me?? You know it isn't the first time you work late at night in our room. I keep waking up with you too "
" Sanyo, I don't sure when it will be finished.. that's why I'm going to the study room" He sighed casually. Then he started to walk near her side, almost ignoring her presence.
Sanyogita caught him with both arms, looking up at him straight against his "I-don't -care-face and speak with clenched teeth l ." I said you can work here. Then why didn't you listen to me?? I told you to just listen to me just once.
.. why are you ignoring me??? " Although she raised her voice, it still sounded like a whisper. She tried hard but the sound didn't come out of the room.
Prithvi was trying his best to hold back his anger. He removed her arms from her grip in a jerk
" Now what is left there to listen" he paused " You hurt me today. You hurt me a lot" Prithvi's voice broke down. He was fighting with his inner Strom
Sanyogita felt the pinch beneath his grumble. She looked at him. His eyes were red.
With a trembling voice she parted her lips " I … I.. K.. know your anger is genuine.. but please listen to me…" She was about to hold his right hand
Prithvi pulled his right hand back with a heavy jerk " What will I listen to you?? And why would I listen to you ??? … has anyone listened to me nowadays?? " His smirk had a pinch of irony
" Who said to you no one listens to you ?? Everybody pay attention to your words!" "
" Ohh I see. Then why did you lie to me when I made a phone call to you, you said you were with Radhika. You were helping her in the kitchen but in reality, I saw Radhika with her son Rahul on the road ." Prithvi's decibel level increased with each sentence. He stretched his left arm and with a jerk pulled down the table cloth above it . Glass jar which was kept over the wooden table fell on the furnished floor and smashed into pieces.
Sanyogita felt her heart stop beating for a pregnant second. A chilling shiver spread down the spine, and the hair on her nape became straight. She glared at Prithvi with shocked eyes. She knew she lied to him. She closed her eyes in shame.
He kept the files and laptop on the couch and held the mid-wing of the sofa, his shoulder was rising up and down as he was taking deep breaths as if he was fighting with his inner Strome, raising anger.
" By the way, what were you doing there at that time near that forest area ??? His voice calmed down more than before.
Sanyogita lifted her heavy lids which began to drain under Salty water. Although Sanyogita opened her eyes, she didn't respond, she became frightened and she never witnessed him go outraged to this extent
Prithvi spun around completely facing her front and stared at her silently, an unknown frustration consuming every flesh of his from inside and outside .
"Btw way " his lips parted after a few minutes "Why did you lie to me??? Radhika se mile Jaana hai… Maa ki yaad aa rahi hai… aaj tak mein tumhari har baat ko , har khwaish ko tumhari bachpana samjh kar accept Kiya hai… but what did you do?? you lied to me… Sanyo you hurt me today… you break my trust today… tumne mere trust ka, mere biswas ka galat fayda uthyahai…." Prithvi's voice choked , although he was broken but hid the water which was repeatedly forcing on the wall of the corner of his eyes to come out and flooded freely on the chest of the earth like a fountain coming out after breaking the caves.
Sanyogita stood there like a statue. She clutched her ankle-length maroon colour stain kimono nightdress on either side of her thighs.
" One minute ..." Prithvi paused, he stared at Sanyogita then let out his inkling '""Did you visit that family again at the same hospital??? ""
Sanyogita gave him a revelation glance. She thought back to the word " again " Would he catch her? Then his next inking cleared her doubt
"Did you not tell me the lie of going to meet Radhika yesterday too, didn't you??" " Prithvi asked in anticipation "
" Why did you meet the family ?? Mana kiya tha na … .phir kyun ??… kyun toda Mera Biswas … kyun liya jhoot ka Shara? Kyun mujhe mere hai nazron mein gira diya ??? why????? Answered me Sanyo?????? Prithvi shouted …. And Prithvi's voice was increasing in decibels and reverberating against the wall
Sanyogita lowered her gaze, beads of embarrassment covered her face.
Prithvi concludes her silence as a fact. He kept his hand on his waist, smirked
" Wow …fantastic… brilliant, wonderful ... .You should be applauded for your performance for making a fool of your husband… " His voice had a touch of irony, sarcasm.
Sanyogita felt more Humiliated this time. Sanyogita shut her eyes in shame. Prithvi's mocking seems like digging her deeper into the soil. She wiped her face and water kept forming in her eyes.
Prithvi was fuming with more rage , a rush of adrenaline was throbbing in his temple he reached to her dangerously"What did you want me to do ?? Tell me ..just clearly what exactly do you have in your head ?? " He pulled her by her arm and shake her to reply
"Did you make up your mind to make my life hell ?? What did you want from me ??
Will I take care of this whole house or handle the business? Or would you want me to do your baby settings for 24 &7 ?????. ""What the hell were you doing in the forest area on that lonely night ?? If anything happens do you have any idea ??? Every day you're just increasing loads of problems in my life "" Tell me exactly what you want?? Did you make up your mind not to let me live with me in peace?? What you want exactly!! "" His eyes were bloodshot. Pulses were throbbing in his ear. “ tum na kisi bhi Kam ki nahi ho… jab dekho tab meri mushkil bada ti hoo!! “"
Two tiny droplets of tears roll down either cheeks of Sanyogita. Her heart was aching so much she felt difficulty in breathing. Prithvi's words were piercing her flesh as if thousands of arrows on her chest .
"Why did you save me if I am the cause of all of your problems? You can leave me there to die, and you will be free of all your burdens for the rest of your life.
""" Sanyogitaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaoooo!" "" "Prithvi's voice erupted into the fury of his greatest intensity. In an attempt to contain the growing rage or fear he could not control, his right hand clenched into a fist.
.. He was pressing his left hand, which was covering her right forearm that had been slashed by a knife on the road, without realizing it because he was so furious.
Sanyogita held her eyes close as she turned her face to the other side. She made an attempt to break free of his grasp. She was trembling on her lips and her cheeks were starting to tickle with salt water.
"Ugh!" she exclaimed, her lips parting slightly.
To be continued...
