Part: 19

Dr.Bose gave Angad a total stage of development of the fetus in next few months.

The fetus grows 3 inches long and weighs almost an ounce by week 14. The muscles begin to develop and sex organs form. Eyelids, fingernails, and toenails also form. The child's spontaneous movements can be observed.
Exactly, at this stage the fetus has been removed from Kripa's womb and put in an incubator..

A wonderful benefit of modern medicine and technology is that many premature babies who would have been lost not many years ago are saved today.

A "preemie" as small as 1- pounds is helped to breathe and stay warm until they are strong enough to survive without artificial support. In an incubator the baby's temperature is kept at a near optimum level and the environment is more oxygenated than our world's atmosphere, which is necessary for the baby's yet to be fully developed lungs.

Since the baby is growing out of mother's womb it takes long time to grow into normal size and weight.

And Dr.Bose revealed the child's sex is also as a female gender. Angad's happiness reached no boundaries. He told to Misthy that Kripa's replica was going to be with him as his life support and ambition.

After three days Dr.Bose gave good news to Angad that the fetus was responding for his process. Angad was very happy and distributed sweets in the school, hospital and lab. He didn't mention his name in the school but mentioned a father's happiness was distributed in the form of sweets. He wanted to share with Kripa which was impossible with Misthy's presence. Misthy teased his anxiety.

Angad went to the lab everyday where he was allowed to see the baby from far for a few minutes once a day. After the lab he went to Kripa's school at school leaving time and watched Kripa till she reached home talking in his mind about his baby. This became a routine for 5 more days.

Misthy and Angad were already away from home for more than three weeks and Misthy decided to leave Angad alone in Kanpur and go back to Mumbai. Misthy gave enough logical reasons to her family for their absence. She told Angad's dadi also on Angad's request that he had some important work for two more weeks. Angad stayed for one more month instead and watched the slow response of the baby at lab. All these days there was not much improvement in Kripa's nature.

Dr.Bose advised Angad to go back home since there won't be much improvement for atleast 3 more months and asked to come back after three months since he had to go back to his studies.

Dr.Bose explained the next stage of development of the fetus:
The fetus is to be about 5 inches long by week 18. The child blinks, grasps, and moves her mouth. Hair grows on the head and body
The fetus has to weigh approximately 1/2 a pound and spans about 10 inches from head to toe. Sweat glands develop, and the external skin has turned from transparent to opaque by week 22.
The fetus can inhale, exhale and even cry by week 26. Eyes will be completely formed, and the tongue has developed taste buds.

At this stage Angad was asked to come back for a visit to see the improvement in the status of the baby. That's after almost 12 weeks which was approximately 3months.

Angad took long time to be convinced for his advice. Angad left the lab having a promise from the doctors that his baby will be taken a premium care. He went to the school to see Kripa and couldn't see her since the school has been closed for a national holiday. Angad was little disappointed but left for Mumbai with a hope of seeing her again in next visit.

After a little more than three months Angad got a call from Dr.Bose to visit his daughter. Angad was totally nervous and asked Misthy to accompany him. But Misthy got an important work and requested him to wait for one more week if possible. Angad agreed to wait for one more week and informed the Doctors at Kanpur. After a week Misthy and Angad went to Kanpur to see the child.

Angad was so excited to see the baby who developed all facial features, respiratory acts. She moved her legs and limbs and sucking thumb too. Angad got tears and remembered Kripa, wishing her to be there. Misthy wanted to carry the child and doctors asked to wait for two more months since she's too soft and tiny to carry. Angad and Misthy came back without seeing Kripa since Misthy had an emergency to see her father. Misthy lost her father and two months passed by her settling in routine life. Angad and his Dadi helped Misthy's family to come over the sorrow.

These two months Angad received the whole feed back from the research group about the good response from the child. Angad and Misthy, after two months which was normal delivery time of a mother and the child, went back to Kanpur to see the child.

The baby was still weak compared to a normal 9month old fetus. Angad and Misthy were excited to hold the baby. Angad was asked to carry the child to his chest to comfy the child.

The method that is most successful in helping to overcome this disadvantage of the incubator is "Kangaroo Carry". When the parents "Kangaroo" their preemie, they are holding their baby skin-to-skin up against their chest. This reduces the stress that is suffered by the frail infant when in the impersonal and "dead" confines of an incubator. Many studies have verified that this early touching enormously increases the probability of the baby's survival, calms a baby, produces healthy chemicals in the baby's system, builds up the immune system, accelerates growth rate and even influences increased mental acuity later in life. Studies have shown that 'Kangaroo Carry' can often stabilize the baby's breathing, heart rate and core body temperature better than an incubator.

An Over the Shoulder Baby Holder baby sling can be used to hold the baby in the "Kangaroo" position. Best results are obtained when the baby is put in the center of the chest in an upright position and the sling is drawn up tight. If heart, breathing and temperature monitors are attached to the baby, their readings show that the baby begins to better synchronize with the bearer—for example, a racing heart comes more quickly into a normal range. In many third world countries, 'Kangaroo Carry' has replaced the attempt to introduce incubators because of the more positive outcomes of 'kangaroo carry'.

Angad and Misthy overwhelmed on hearing this and pampered the baby to utmost care. Misthy got tears and felt bad for not able to convince Kripa for this beautiful motherhood experience. She sympathized with Kripa for not having this cute baby in her arms. Angad asked the doctor when can the baby was taken home. Dr.Bose smiled at Angad's inquisition and explained that the baby needs some more recovery in incubator.

When the digestion is good and an increase of weight progressive, the temperature of the incubator may be lowered rapidly, and the infant removed in one or two weeks.

Angad was little disappointed and Dr.Bose consoled him warmly patting on his shoulder saying that one of his infants remained in the incubator for more than six months.

Angad and Misthy were happy to know about the baby's fast recovery now and head back home after a week to come back in two weeks. This time also Angad could not meet Kripa since she was out of town. Tanya promised she would make sure Kripa was available next time in the town.

Angad and Misthy came back in two weeks with all preparations when Dr.Bose informed them about the baby's full recovery.

Angad finished all the formalities on paper and took the baby from the lab. He and Misthy named the baby 'Diya' on kripa's desire at temple in presence of Dr.Desai and other research group.

Angad took the baby to Dr.Sudarshana Desai's house and waited for Tanya. Tanya came after a long wait and informed that Kripa and family moved to Assam a week ago. Angad was furious for not letting him knew before hand. Tanya told that it's all of sudden decision since Dilip got a good chance of starting a new business there.

Angad and Misthy were upset and headed back to Mumbai with no alter. Angad told Dadi that Diya was his own biological daughter and cannot reveal her mother's name unless he got his mother to physically appear along with him.

Dadi was upset but could not say anything against Angad's decision. Misthy also promised Angad for not letting anyone knew about Diya.
