Chapter 29
Part 29 –
Angad – I could lose her!
Two weeks went by before angad started tormenting himself with that frightening prospect. Each day she sounded more and more as though a wonderful new world had been opened up for her. Which of course it had. Her father had done what he couldn't, this was what he feared. She was happy living a life apart from him. And it could go on. Perhaps forever! Her biological father hadn't had a moment's hesitation in acknowledging her, she'd told him with enormous gladness in her voice. Angad loved her, so he was able to share in her happiness. But, he needed her as much as her father, more.
Angad – miracles do happen angad!
He'd thought more had happened to him. But she was going to keep him posted. She had been through bad experiences what with prithvi, then mishti and finally the man she had all her life called father. He'd caught her at a vulnerable moment in time when she was emotionally fragile. That's why she had come to him – actually putting it down on paper – that she would marry him. Maybe now she thought of her promise as just plain craziness.
Angad knew her father was a household name and he had always admired him. He was handsome, distinguished, highly intelligent, highly articulate with a magnetic charm that drew people to him. Mihir gerewal had the reputation for being a man the people could trust. Women loved him, he got their vote. In short he was just the sort of man kripa should have had as a father right from the beginning.
Kripa had told him in confidence that mihir intended to retire from politics at the end of the year when he would make his announcement.
Angad – who was I going to tell anyways? Mr. suryaban sharma, who must be cursing the day the opened his mouth?
Angad went therought their conversations a hundred of times in his mind. A lot of work was being done around the khanna palace so he could only take calls at night. Angad was thinking about kripa. Kripa had been gone such a short time, yet she had already met her half brother, sujal and his wife kashish and young family. The younger brother kavya, who had won a scholarship to oxford, was overseas. They were well on the wat to becoming one happy family. Gayatri aunty too had been welcomed with open arms, of course aunty was a stunning woman. Angad was human enough to wonder if kripa and her mother would have been ordinary people.
By the end third week angad found himself going about his business grim – faced. He missed her unbearably. She may have found her real father, but she was in his blood, too. He prayed she'd remember that. Absence either made the heart flow fonder or the fond memories faded. Not that she didn't always tell him how much she missed him when she called. But when was she coming home? And where was home? He was so lonely without her. He had never known such loneliness. he was just so worried she might want to stay close to him. Hell, was that so unusual? Angad worked so hard in an effort to take his mind off his anxieties, he fell into bed each night exhausted to the bone.
By the end of month he decided to take action. He didn't have to watch every money anymore. He would take a trip to delhi. He would buy a decent suit and go calling, courting, whatever. Kripa and her mother had moved out of their hotel into the gerewal's residence. He had the telephone number and the address. He was hurting so badly he just had to see her. If she wanted to remain in delhi with her new family he had to face the appalling fact there was nothing he could do about it. Without kripa, all his plans for the future would be smashed.
They were all over him in the department store where he went to buy some smart city clothes. There was no question it would be extremely easy for a bush bachelor to find plenty of female company in the city but getting a one of them to leave the city for the lonely isolated Outback was another story. In the end he brought much more than he needed.
A staff of the shop – you have a wonderful physique, mr. khanna. Those shoulders!
Angad – thank you ma'am.
