Part 37

Taani: Rey kahan hai?

Niki: Terrace!

Before anyone could say anything, she was gone. She ran crying to the terrace. Everyone else followed her. On reaching the terrace, she found Rey staring at the moon with his back towards her. Even by looking at him she could guess that he was crying. Why is he crying? Of course because of your "generous" words, her subconscious sneered at her. She ran up to him and hugged him tight from behind. He was startled for a moment but then guessed the touch. He slowly made her part out of the hug and turned to face her.

Taani: Rey.

She said still crying and tried to hug him when he stopped her by holding her hands.

Rey: Stop! Stop right there.

Taani: Rey, I'm sorry. Mein galath thi aur pata nahi kyu voh stupid thoughts mere dimaag mein aaye. Please forgive me.

Rey: I guess meine tumse durr rehne ko kaha tha, so please. Abh agar tum iss sab ko lekar bhi kuch kehne lagi toh I wont be able to take it, mera khud pe se control chala jayega.

Taani: Toh jaane dijiye control. Mujhse jhagdiye, shout at me but don't stay quiet.

Rey: Mujhe regret karne nahi aata warna definitely tum jo bol rahi ho vo karta.

Saying so he left the terrace. Taani fell on her knees crying. The team was watching her cry but couldn't move from their places seeing her condition and the amount of pain both Rey and Taani were going through. Niki walked upto Taani and embraced her soothing her back. Slowly her crying decreased, but she was still weeping.

Taani: Niki, tum, tum Rey se baat karo. Unse kahon na ki mujhe maaf kare. Voh tumhari baat maanenge. Please Niki maan jao. I cant live without him. Please.

Niki: Pehle tum rona band karo. Aur rahi baat Yansh ki toh give him some time, he's really very hurt. Usko thodi space do vo samajh jayega ki uski life bhi tumhare bina incomplete hai. Hmn?

Taani nodded and hugged her tight. She needed this support and considered herself lucky to get it from Niki. Niki and Sharon took Taani to her room and made her sleep. Everyone else dismissed but Swayam was constantly moving to and fro in the passageway. He was waiting for Niki or Sharon to come out of Taani's room to tell about her condition. He didn't have the guts to see his sister cry. Seeing that the ladies were taking time to come, he looked at Rey's door and barged in.

Rey: Swayam?

Swayam saw his friend's eyes were red and puffy which clearly indicated that Rey was sad and hurt. Plus he also knew that Rey still loves his sister so he got down on both his knees and spoke.

Swayam: Rey I beg you, please usse ignore mat karo. I know mein selfish ban raha hoon but mein apni behen ko aise nahi dekh sakta. Please patch up with her.

Rey had never in his dreams imagined that Swayam would ever be in front of him like this. He immediately made him stand and hugged him tight. Swayam reciprocated sensing his need for support.

Rey: Swayam please don't force me. Kal se Taani ko jab bhi face kiya hai usse gusse mein bat ki hai. Agar ab face kiya toh pata nahi mein kya kar baithunga. So if you want to see both of us not physically hurt, then stop this.

Swayam was shocked for a moment but regained composure.

Swayam: What do you mean? Aur aisa hua kya tha ki you two broke up?

Rey: You don't want to know this.

Swayam: I need to know why my best friend and sister broke up! (He raised his voice.)

Rey didn't say anything while Swayam kept nagging him again and again which made him finally speak up.

Rey: I slept with Taani!

Swayam: What?

Rey: Yes.. and.. well I don't regret it.

Swayam: Wait a minute, you two? (feeling awkward) Is this why she broke up with you?

Rey: No! No God, no!

Swayam: Then?

Rey: Okay, meri poori baat sunn lena and I would appreciate if you would as a friend. (He narrated the after effects of the night and why he left and shifted his stuff and was not in contact with Taani. How she misunderstood him and what led to the break up.)

Swayam: Ek minute, tumne kaha ki usse laga tum past mein jo hua uska badla le rahe ho? Yeh past mein kab aur kya hua tha? (There was a tinge of anger in his voice.)

Rey: Jab humari basket ball match thi, I had come to you to ask you to coach us. But jab tumne mana kiya, I left and was thinking ki aage kya hoga and all in the rehearsal hall. Tab Taani wahan aayi and she misunderstood me, back then as well, she thought I forced you to become the team's captain and we had a.. we had a moment.. which she thought was a mistake and it happened as I was stressed and she became a medium to ooze out my stress. (There was anger and hurt in his voice by the end, which didn't go unnoticed by Swayam.)

There was silence in the room. It was difficult for Swayam to digest so many revelations and also for Rey to look into Swayam's eyes after what he said. A thought crossed his mind that he shouldn't have said all this, on which he argued with himself that Swayam ought to know what happened. Niki and Sharon who were hearing all this entered in to ease out the tension inside the room.

Niki: Taani so gayi hai. Di, Yansh, Swayam, tum sab bhi so jao. Kal hume wapas jana hai.

The next day the team returned back to Mumbai. The flight back was quiet and lonely because of many reasons, mainly because of the tension between Rey and Taani and also as they all were tired because of the event. The day they returned they decided to bunk college and rest at home. After an entire day's rest they went to college the following day.

VP Sir: I heard your event went really great.

Taani: Yes sir. It was an unforgettable event. (No one missed the sadness lacing her voice.)

VP Sir: It's good to know that. But now I must also remind you that your finals are just two months away, so better shift your focus to studies.

The realization hit them hard and they walked out of VP sir's office. They were walking to their class with heads low.

Nil: VP sir ko yeh baat batani jaruri thi kya?

Simmi: Hum kitne khush the event ke baad aur abh. (Dropped her head down.)

Swayam: Guys! Whats wrong with you? Exams ko abhi tak do mahine hai. We have a lot of time to prepare.

Vicky: Haan haan. Swayam tu hume sab sikhayega. Hum roz raat ko tere ghar aayenge sikhne.

Swayam: No ways!

Vicky: Aisa karega tu apne doston ke saath. Tu hi bolta hai na gyaan baatne se badhta hai, toh mere bhai please mana mat kar. Mujhe fail nahi hona.

Rinni: Agar abhi fail hue toh fir se ek saal college mein bitana hoga. Aur baki sab toh graduate hojayenge, matlab no company!

Vicky: Rinni kyu dara rahi ho. Swayam maan na mere bhai.

Sharon: Vicky easy. Aaj se mere ghar pe study karenge. Everyone be present on time.

Their entire day in college went in lectures. They were already tensed plus the professors scared them more. At night they gathered at Sharon's place for group study.

Vicky: Chalo lets start.

Sharon: Swayam, Taani, Rey aur Niki abhi tak nahi aaye. We'll wait five ten minutes for them.

There was a knock at the door and Swayam came in with Taani. After a while Niki entered.

Sharon: Rey kahan hai?

Niki: Vo nahi aa raha.

Swayam: Kyun?

Sharon: Toh tum kaise aayi?

Niki: He dropped me out and left.

It was understood that Rey didn't come because of Taani. She was on the verge of crying and so excused herself. Swayam, Sharon and Niki went aside to talk.

Swayam: Rey ko call karke bulata hoon.

Niki: Vo nahi manane wala. I tried a lot to convince him but he didn't listen to me.

Swayam: Now what?

Sharon: Kal college mein baat karte hai Rey se. He can't just ignore everyone like this.

They all studied till late night and stayed back. Next morning Swayam dropped everyone home and all were in college on time.

Vicky: Kal humne kuch jyada hi padh liya. Exams ko abhi tak do mahine hai. Mein toh abhi bhi neend mein hoon.

Simmi: I guess group studying ka idea tumhi ne diya tha. (She taunted.)

Sharon: Guys tum log chalo, mein aati hoon.

Giving a nod to Swayam, she left. Niki and Shivam too excused themselves to go to the library as they both had to issue a few books. The rest of them continued towards their class.

Rey: Haan Sharon, kyun bulaya? (He asked as soon as she entered the rehearsal hall.)

Sharon: Tum kal kyu nahi aaye the?

Rey: Mera mann nahi tha.

Sharon: Mann nahi tha ka kya matlab hai? Hum kal padhne ke liye mile the, PARTY KARNE NAHI!

Rey: Why are you shouting?

Sharon: Okay listen, agar aaj se tum nahi aaye toh mein sab ko leke tumhare ghar chali aaungi. That way you won't be able to escape.

Rey: No you won't do that.

Sharon: I can do that. Don't challenge me!

Rey: Kabhi kabhi tumse darr lagta hai. I seriously wonder how does Swayam handle you?

Sharon: Apne wonder-land se bahar niklo aur chalo, class attend karne.

She literally dragged him out of the hall. They were passing by the library when they heard a loud shriek and rushed in to find Niki wailing and crying while Shivam was sandwiched between a fallen bookshelf and floor. Rey quickly went forward and lifted the bookshelf aside freeing Shivam. They saw Shivam's leg was badly injured.

Rey: Sharon Niki ko sambhalo. Mein isse car tak leke jaata hoon. Tum baaki sabko lekar bahar aao.

Rey helped Shivam up and carrying almost half his body weight over him walked Shivam to the parking lot where Swayam was already waiting in the car. Rey made him carefully sit in the car taking care he doesn't hurt his leg more. The others sat in as well in the other car which Vicky was driving. Swayam, Rey, Sharon and Niki were with Shivam in the car.

Shivam: Niki, tum ro kyu rahi ho? I'm fine.

Niki: I can see that.

Shivam: You are over reacting now.

Niki: I AM NOT!

Rey: Cut it out. Aur Nik hua kya yeh batao.

Niki: Mujhe ek book chahiye thi jo ekdum upar wale shelf mein thi. I was on the stairs and removing it and suddenly my leg slipped and I was about to fall. Luckily Shivam caught me, but I had grabbed the bookshelf for support and it came down with me, trapping him.

Rey: And now you're blaming yourself. Whats with girls taking all sort of blame on themselves?

Niki: Toh galati meri hi thi. Mujhe vo shelf pakadna nahi chahiye tha. Jyada se jyada kya hota, mein gir jati aur pairmein moch aajati.

Rey and Shivam: SHUTUP! (Both of them said together shaking her a bit.)

Niki: Whats with boys not letting their girls get hurt? (She taunted in the same tone making everyone smile.)

They reached Sanjeevani Hospital and quickly got Shivam admitted. He was taken to the X-ray room for examination of the fracture. The doctor examined the X-ray and came out of the cabin.

Niki: Doctor?

Dr. Kirti: It's a comminuted fracture, meaning patient's bone has been crushed into pieces. Yeh accident hua kaise?

Rey explained everything to her.

Dr. Kirti: Okay. Tension ki koi baat nahi hai. (She said looking a Niki's drenched face) Mein operation ki tayyari karti hoon. Excuse me.

Rey: Nik, stop now please. (He wiped her tears and hugged her.)

Dr. Kirti: Nurse OT ready karne bolo aur Dr. Armaan ko page karo.

Soon the surgery started. Niki was anxiously waiting outside the OT door for the bulb to go off. Rey was constantly by her side. Later he was called to finish the details of the form. Sharon and Taani then went beside Niki and stoped her from sulking. The bulb turned off and doctor came out. His mask was still on.

Dr. Armaan: Operation was successful. Patient ko ward mein shift karne ke baad app mil sakte ho.

He left from there and excused himself. Shivam was taken to the general ward. Rey came to them and informed that he had to go out to get some medicines.

I know ending thodi abrupt hai but just couldn't write more.

Sanjeevani mein admit hona is for a reason. You'll find that out soon.

Lastly don't complain ki Taani ko mention hi nahi kiya ya TaaRey ka koi scene nahi tha and stuff. It's clearly not my fault in that! Abh Rey Taani ke aas paas bhi nahi rehna chahata toh mein kya kar sakti hoon?
