Part 35

It was late morning when Taani woke up with a slight groan. She tied her hair into a ponytail and stretched her arms. It is then she realized that she was covered with only white bed sheets. The previous night's images flashed in her mind and she instantly turned deep red blushing. She slowly got off the bed. She felt sore so decided to have a nice hot bath before doing anything else and dragged herself into the bathroom. After an hour or so she came out wearing her jumpsuit and drying her hair.

She looked around her room, it looked pitch perfect! No one could guess that they had spent a wild night in the same room few hours ago. She guessed that Rey must have arranged the entire room. She blushed again on the thought of Rey and it clicked her that she hasn't seen him since she has woken up. She looked around her room and felt something missing. Obviously Rey was missing but along with him something else was missing as well, she could feel it. Shrugging the thought aside, she ordered breakfast.

Taani (thinking): Rey itni subah kahan chale gaye? Itna ajeeb kyu lag raha hai mujhe? Khair reception mein pooch ke dekhti hoon, shayad kuch pata chale.

She had her breakfast and came out of her room. She saw the manager near the reception and went towards him.

Manager: Good morning ma'am.

Taani: Good morning. Aapne Rey ko dekha hai?

Manager: Ma'am vo aaj subah hi apna saaman dusre room mein shift karke kahi nikal gaye. Bohot jaldi mein lag rahe the. Driver aaya nahi tha toh khud hi gaadi mein nikal gaye.

Receptionist: Sir aapke liye call hai.

Manager (to Taani): Excuse me.

Taani (thinking): Jaldi mein gaye? Kahan? Aur mujhe kuch bataya kyu nahi? Wait a minute, saamaan kyu shift kiya? Mujhe bohot ajeeb lag raha hai.

She came back to her room and now she understood what she felt missing, it was Rey's luggage. She sat on the sofa near the window staring out blankly. Unknown fear was gripping her and a lone tear escaped her eye. She started weeping as her mind started developing all negative thoughts. After a while, she called at the reception and asked to connect her to Rey. His cell was ringing but he didn't answer. She tried numerous times but he never received her calls. Feeling defeated, she started crying hugging her pillow to her heart. Each and every moment from the time they left Mumbai till the previous night flashed in front of her eyes.

Taani: Rey aap mujhe chod ke chale gaye? Mujhe laga tha ki aap mujhse pyaar karte ho par aap.. Kyun Rey, kyun?

She was crying continuously and later fell asleep when she was drained out of energy.

It was late evening when the gang reached Darjeeling. They reached the hotel and asked for their room. After freshening up they met at the reception and asked about the whereabouts of the lovebirds, Rey and Taani. The manager greeted them and told that Rey has gone out early morning and has still not returned and Taani is in her room. They asked for Taani's room number and moved towards it.

Swayam: Kuch ajeeb nahi lag raha? Rey subah se bahar hai aur Taani yahan akeli.

Nil: Mujhe toh laga ki tu yeh sunn ke khush hoga par tu toh unn dono ko ek saath ek dusre ki bahon mein pata nahi kya kya karte dekhna chahata hai. Not bad haan! Yeh possessive bhai sudhar kaise gaya?

Everyone giggled at Nil's comment while Swayam gave an angry look to him.

Swayam: Shut up alright! I'm just concerned. Rey ko mein bohot der se call kar raha hoon and he isn't picking up any calls aur Taani ko contact nahi kar sakta as uska phone mere paas hai.

Niki: Actually you are right. Mein bhi subah se call kar rahi hoon, no answer at all!

Sharon: Chalo na Taani ke room mein chalte hai, pata chal jayega.

They moved forward when they heard someone calling them from behind. They turned around and found Rey grinning at them.

Bharat: Le aagaya tera bhai.

Niki ran to him and hugged him tight followed by others. They all sat behind the glass partition at the reception.

Rey: Taani nahi hai tum logo ke saath?

Simmi: Hume toh laga tha ki vo tumhare saath hogi.

Aashi: Wait I'll get her, vo apne room mein hi hai.

Aashi turned to call Taani but found her coming towards them. Taani decided to go for a walk in the hotel garden to clear the turmoil inside her and came out of her room, when she faced the entire gang sitting in the lobby. All girls went and hugged her. Swayam too engulfed her protectively. After breaking the hug he noticed her face was pale.

Swayam: Kya hua Taani, tum theek ho?

Taani: Haan bhai I'm fine.

Sharon: You don't look so.

Rey: Arre Sharon relax na, usse bohot thand lag gayi thi kal so aaj hotel mein aaram kar rahi thi.

Vicky: Oh. Aisa kya.

Niki: Waise Yansh, how was your day? (Teasing him.)

Rey: Best day of my life! (He smirked looking at Taani.)

Taani looked down. Rey noticed that she was looking different from the time she came out. He felt like talking to her, but avoided any talk in front of everyone. Her face was emotionless but her eyes were telling that she is sad.

Taani: Guys mein apne room mein hoon, dinner ke time bula lena.

She looked at Rey before she turned. He found disgust in her eyes!

Rey (thinking): Why is Taani behaving so differently? Aur abhi usne meri taraf aise kyu dekha? I need to talk to her! But mujhe ye paltan nikalne de toh na. But why would she behave in such a way? I mean I know for her all that what happened yesterday should not happen before marriage. But then again, we didn't do anything against our wish. As much as I wanted her, she too wanted me, then why this behavior?

Niki: Yansh? Yansh? Hello? (Shaking him.) Zara apni behen ki taraf bhi dekho, kabse Taani ko ghoor rahe ho.

Swayam: Guys stop it now!

Nil: Jaag gaya iske andar ka bhai!

Swayam: Rey concert parso hai so I guess tumhe abhi se routine seekh lena chahiye.

Rey: Arre yaar itni jaldi kya hai?

Swayam: No ifs and buts! As a captain I'm ordering you to practice right now.

Sharon: Swayam, kal bhi ho sakti hai practice. Waise bhi Rey ko meine kal routine bheja tha so he knows what exactly is to be done.

Rey: Haan, meine kal raat ko dekh liya tha.

Swayam: But I feel that you should practice right now.

Rey: Atcha theek hai saale sahib, as you wish. Chalo Nik garden mein rehearse karte hai.

Rey, Niki, Swayam and Sharon were in the garden. Sharon and Swayam were teaching Rey and Niki steps while the rest of the gang was in their respective rooms, resting. Taani was near her window and seeing the rehearsals. Rey was constantly joking around and teasing the three of them. His face showed immense happiness. Taani looked at him and got lost in her thoughts.

Taani (thinking): Rey toh bohot normal behave kar rahe hai sab ke saath but mere liye time hi nahi hai aur ab hoga bhi kyun? Pehle mein thodi bhi udaas rehti thi toh mere paas aa jate the and now..  (Letting out a sigh she closed the window.)

During dinner she was all quiet. Rey noticed some weird changes in her towards him so decided to talk to her after dinner without any further delay. After dinner Swayam again tried to trap Rey but he succeeded in getting out.

The gang had their rooms on one floor itself. After dinner they all were sitting around a round table in the corridor. All were present there except Taani. Rey sneaked out from there and went in Taani's room. She was standing by the window, with her back towards the door. He went and lifted her from her waist, twirling her.

Rey: Missed me?

Taani: Who am I to miss you?

Rey: Kya?

Taani: Sahi suna aapne. Who am I to miss you? (She freed herself from his hold and faced him.)

Rey: What's wrong Taani? Tum aise kyu behave kar rahi ho?

Taani: Toh aap batao ki jisse aap pyaar karte ho vo aapko hurt kare toh kaisa behave karte hai?

Rey: Meine tumhe hurt kiya? Kab? Kaise?

Taani: Wow Rey, I must appreciate that you are a very great actor! Itna sab karne ke baad bhi aap itne innocent hone ki acting kaise kar sakte ho?

Rey: Taani saaf saaf batao ki tum kehna kya chahati ho.

Taani: Just answer my question truthfully, 2 saal pehle jab rehearsal hall mein aap mere kareeb aaye the kya aap tab mujhse pyaar karte the?

Rey: Tum aise kyu pooch rahi ho?

Taani: Haan ya na Rey?

Rey: To be honest, tabhi mujhe apne feelings ke bare mein pata nahi tha, I wasn't sure.

Taani: But now I'm damn sure.

Rey: About?

Taani: Aap tab mujhpe gussa ho gaye the ki maine aapko accuse kiya yeh bolke ki you used me to ooze out your frustrations. Uss accusation ka badla aapne abhi liya. I don't understand how could I be so blind? Aap humesha mere kareeb aane ki koshish karte the. You understood that I was not comfortable and so you made me, and when finally when you succeeded, you just left! Congratulations Mr. Reyansh Singhania you won! Abh aapko yeh jhute pyaar ka natak karne ki koi jarurat nahi hai. You can go and openly brag that you had the best day of your life to your friends.

Rey stood there dumbfounded. He didn't know what to say or how to react. The love of his life was accusing him of playing with her emotions and using her. Never in his life had he imagined he would be facing such a day.

Taani: Aise kyu dekh rahe ho? Ab yeh acting mere saamne nahi chalne wali. Aapko kya laga ki Taani ek simple si bholi bhali ladki hai, mein uske saath kuch bhi karu usse pata thodi chalega. But you are so wrong!

Rey: (finally broke his silence) Kya chahati ho tum?

Taani: I don't want to stay in this relationship, if there ever was any true one. I'm breaking up with you Rey.

Rey: As you wish, bas itna yaad rakhna ki aage kuch bhi ho tum mujhe apne raaste mein kabhi nahi paogi. Also, make sure that you never cross my path!

He said the last with the anger and hurt he was holding in himself from so long and left. The moment he closed the door tears started flowing from his eyes. The gang saw this and got worried, but before they could ask him anything he rushed into his room. They rushed near his room but no use, he wasn't ready to open the door. Just then they heard loud noises from Taani's room. Sharon opened the door with the key she had, as they were sharing rooms, and found broken vase pieces on the ground and Taani crying her guts out in one corner of the room.

Swayam: Taani tum ro kyun rahi ho? Kya hua? (He instantly hugged her.)

The others were too shocked to even respond. They stood there trying to get their brains in working mode.

Swayam: Baat kya hai? Rey ke saath jhadga hua kya? Taani bolo!

Taani: I broke up with him.

All: WHAT?

Taani: Haan aur please mujhe kuch mat pucho. I want to stay alone for sometime. Please.

Against their will, they exited her room and came and sat at their earlier positions. Seeing the mess and Rey and Taani's condition they knew that something major has happened between the two, but none of them was ready to tell. Niki at once marched to Rey's room and somehow managed to open the door. The gang prayed for her to succeed in pacifying Rey.

She entered in and saw the room was filled with complete darkness. Only a light was flicking on and off. She looked at the direction and saw Rey sitting lifeless switching the light on and off. His face had marks of dry tears. She went running towards him and hugged him tight.

Niki: Yansh baat kya hai? Please mujhe batao. Please. I can't see you like this.

Rey: Nik mujhe akele rehna hai, please jao yahan se.

Niki: No I won't leave from here.

Rey: Nik just go! (He pushed her and she fell near the side table almost hitting her head on it. Luckily she didn't injure herself.)

Rey instantly got up and pulled her up. He hugged her tight and started crying hysterically. She was now sure that something really worst has happened as she had never seen Rey cry in this manner. After a while his crying decreased. She made him sit on the bed and gave him water. He drank it in one go. She sat next to him holding his hand.

Niki: Yansh please mujhe sab batao. Maybe I can help you.

Rey stared at the floor for a long time without uttering a single word. She sat next to him patiently. Both could hear each other's breaths in the dark silence. After debating a lot with himself, he finally spoke out as he knew that even if he stayed quiet, Niki would get the truth out of him eventually. He narrated the entire scene from when they left till the previous day's events.

Niki: Phir ab aisa kya hogaya ki you two broke up?

Rey: I don't know! I really don't. Jab se aaya hoon tabse I found her behavior weird so I went in to talk to her. Usse baat ki toh..

Niki: Toh?

Rey: Toh.. (letting out a sigh) She feels that I.. I used her.. just.. just to take some revenge.

Niki: What? I don't believe you!

Rey: Mein khood abhi tak believe nahi kar paya hoon.

Niki: Ek minute, iss sab mein galti tumhari hi hai. You made her think that way. After spending a night with her you left her early morning. Ek ladki iss sab ke alava aur kya sochegi?

Rey: You mean she is right?

Niki: No. I mean her anger is justified but her actions can't be justified. She shouldn't have said all such things.

Rey: But why is she upset? Aur usse mujhpe bharosa nahi tha? How could she think of me like that? How?

Niki: Because you made her think! Yansh kisi bhi ladki ko sadma lagega jab uske saath aisa hoga, aur yahan same hua. She was depressed and hence her mind came up with all such foolish ideas.

Rey: But jab usse pata tha ki mein kyu gaya aur kahan gaya tab bhi usne aise behave kyu kiya?

Niki: Matlab?

Rey: I wrote a letter for her in the morning informing her about my absence. Aur abh jab mein wahan gaya tha tab vo letter wahan open tha. This means she had read the letter!

Niki: You firstly stop crying. I'll talk to her and clear out the misunderstandings.

Rey: Abhi kuch clear karne ke liye bacha hi nahi hai. Aaj she proved that there was no trust in this relationship at all. Pehle bhi jab usne mujhe misunderstand kiya tha I overlooked it as tabhi hum ek dusre ko itni atchi tarah se nahi jaante the, but now even if I try I don't think I'll ever be able to get over this. Mein sahi tha, mere liye pyaar bana hi nahi hai. Pyaar ne humesha mujhe dukh diya hai. And now I have decided to stay away from this forever.

Niki: Shut up Yansh aisa kuch nahi hai. You just go to sleep. He is testing you and your relationship, vo hi sab theek karega.

Rey: Nik I don't think aisa kuch hoga. I don't think ki mein kabhi bhi uske words bhoola paunga. Mujhe pyaar karne ki humesha saza mili hai. Love is not meant for me. Mein akela hi theek hoon. Aleka hi theek hoon.

Niki: Shoo.. now sleep.

She made him sleep and came out and directly went to Taani's room avoiding all questions from the gang.

Taani: Abh tum apne bhai ki side leke kyu aayi ho? Iss sab se sach nahi badlega.

Niki: Taani, ek baar bas ek baar apne aap ko puch ke dekho ki kya Rey kabhi aisa kar sakta hai?

Taani: Mujhe bhi aaj tak yahi lagta tha ki vo kabhi aisa nahi kar sakte but I was proved wrong.

Niki: Shut up Taani! Come in your senses before it's too late.

Taani: I am in my senses now. Abhi tak mein kisi jhoothi duniya mein thi. Now I'm not!

Niki: You are unbelievable! Agar Yansh aaj bhi tumse pyaar nahi kar raha hota na toh pata nahi mein kya karti tumhara.

Taani: Tumhe pata bhi hai ki tumhare is so called bhai ne mere saath kiya kya hai?

Niki: Usne mujhe sab bataya! Now I understood why he is so quiet and angry. Tum sab sach janane ke baad bhi usse blame kar rahi ho so ab vo aur kya karega? Agar voh letter chod ke nahi jata aur tum aisa behave karti toh mein samajhti but now I really feel bad for you Taani. Tum itni andhi ho gayi ki tumne kuch aisa kho diya jo tumhe kabhi wapas nahi milne wala.
