She chewed on her pen trying to concentrate on the figures, the marketing guy was explaining as her mind kept wandering to her son. Seeing her so distracted, Anuj stood up.

"Uh... guys can we take a short break... can you send these figures over email... I want to take a look at it before we meet... let's regroup at 2?"

The team nodded and started to disperse. Anupama stood up too. He held her hand. She looked at him.

"Stay... I want to talk..."

As the last person left the room, he quickly latched the door and drew down the blinds. Turning to her, he raised his eyebrow and she sighed.

"Toshu..."

"Toshu? Isn't today his birthday?"

"How do you...?"

"Oh I know all the kids' birthdays... what happened... did he misbehave again?"

"No... no no no..."

"Then?"

"He apologized... and we reconciled..."

"That's awesome, Anu..."

"Yes... it is..."

He walked towards her and wrapped his arms around her waist pulling her close to him.

"What is it?"

She hid her head on his chest.

"I said no to him...."

"Why?"

"He asked me to come to his birthday party this Sunday... I said no..."

"Why?"

"Because he couldn't invite you..."

"Anu..."

"He said if it was anywhere else he would but since it's in the Shah house he doesn't want to create trouble..."

"He is right..."

"He is..."

"Then why don't you go?"

She looked up at him and he bent down to capture her lips.

"Why, Mohatarma...?"

"Because you get panic attacks...."

"Used to..."

"Huh?"

"Anu..."

He gave her a peck on the lips.

"That..."

Another peck.

"Was..."

One more.

"When..."

Again.

"I didn't know..."

He looked into her eyes.

"Now I know that you are mine... will always be mine..."

"Annujjjj..."

"The creep isn't there... go to the party... I will wait at home..."

"Are you sure?"

"Mmmm hmmm.... you can always call me if any drama starts... I'll come and whisk you away, Mohatarma..."

"Anuj... you do know I will just attend the party and be back... don't you? I don't have anything to do with that house anymore...."

"Mmmm.... I love you..."

She rubbed her nose against his neck and placed a wet kiss on his Adam's apple. He closed his eyes, his senses numb as her lips touched him. She pulled back and whispered 

"I love you too..."

With that she left him in his world of fantasy.

Samar looked at her eating the food placed in front of her. He took in a deep breath.

"I don't know your name..."

"It's Kalpana."

"Kalpana...."

"Yes.. thank you very much for saving me and taking care of her and for the food..."

He nodded.

"If I may..."

"No... no... sorry to be rude... but we can manage..."

"I know... you see I wouldn't have really asked if I hadn't seen you and Pooja today morning..."

"That was an accident..."

"But you said you didn't eat for two days..."

"Was stuck up in..."

"No Mumma... you didn't eat because we didn't have any..."

"Pooja... shhh.."

"No... let her... why didn't you have anything to eat...?"

"Master... Mumma lost her job a month back, we don't have the money...our neighbor aunty gave me food... but Mumma didn't eat..."

"Shhh... no... Pooja... Thank you Mr. Samar... for your kindness..."

She got up to leave.

"Wait... I have a job to offer you..."

"No no... it's ok..."

"Didn't you look at the advertisement posted on the academy door?"

"Huh?"

"I want an assistant... someone good with kids... and with a passion for dance.... someone like you..."

"I don't dance..."

"Pooja told me you taught her to dance... I really need an assistant..."

"I can't accept..."

"Why not?"

"Because I know why you are doing it..."

He sighed.

"Allright... try it out for a week... if you like it you can continue... else you can always look for some other job..."

She stood contemplating when her daughter held her hand.

"Mumma?"

She shut her eyes and the unpaid bills, rent and empty vessels flashed before her eyes. She had to do this for her daughter. Swallowing her pride, she said 

"Yes"
