Legal papers... he had gone to meet the legal team to discuss the Vanika project and his eyes had fallen on legal papers with his name on it. The seemed to be still in draft form. As he quickly skimmed through it, he realized what it was. No, he won't let it happen. He had worked hard enough to get the project and he can't let it go so easily. Mukku had stopped talking personally to him ever since the Christmas party. Most conversations though happened through her PA or if it all she had to talk, it was in a meeting in front of two or three colleagues. She had even promoted Ashish, his junior as assistant partners saying casually that if he ever had to leave office in case of some work, Ashish would manage. He had been on the edge throughout the week and now these papers told him he had to be quick enough else he would lose it all. And Vanraj Shah didn't believe in losing... specially not to that woman who was now his ex-wife. It was bad enough to see her working in the same level as him but to lose to her would be unimaginable.

He looked at her seriously skimming through the files. She had not looked at him the entire time and he knew something was wrong.

"Anu..."

"Mmmm..."

"What's wrong?"

"Nothing."

"Anu?"

She nodded in negative furiously trying to control the tears that threatened to spill. He got up and marched towards her. Bending towards her, he wrapped his hand around his shoulders and squeezed it.

"Anu..."

She threw the pen she was holding and clicked her tongue.

"She left him... again..."

"Who?"

"Nandini... she left Samar... she has promised to never return..."

He straightened himself and folded his arms.

"I knew it would end someday... just didn't expect it now..."

"Huh?"

"Their relationship was getting too toxic. She is a good girl, no doubt and Samar is a gentleman... but together they were just not meant to be. Even if they had married, the girl's aunt would have made their life miserable. It's good that everything is over now... they both deserve better than each other..."

She said nothing just sniffed a little. He looked at her and wiped her tears away with his palm.

"Don't worry, Anu..."

"How do you expect me not to worry for my son? He is broken..."

He gave a small sigh.

"He will be alright... I will talk to him. You do trust me enough to make things alright, right?"

She nodded.

"Then... leave it to me... it's his burger day today na? Give me his tiffin... I will talk to him."

She gave him the tiffin and smiled 

"Thank You..."

He took it from her and looked at it contemplating. She looked at him fidgeting.

"What is it?"

"Anu... I just thought of something..."

"What?"

"Shall we send Samar away for sometime... will do him a world of good..."

"But... where..."

"Let me think about it... I want you to agree before I talk to him..."

She looked at him and nodded

"Ok... if he agrees to it..."

He smiled.

"Thanks for trusting me..."

"I trust you more than my life..."

"Mmmm... By the way, Mohatarma... you haven't forgotten what you said this morning... right?"

He raised his eyebrow and she felt a little throb down below. She lowered her lashes as her cheeks flushed up at the memory of his moans in bed some time ago. She wondered if he was planning to make them real and felt a thrill of pleasure make her body tremble a little. The little tremble made him doubt a little and he bent down to scan her face.

"Anu?"

She lifted her lashes and as their eyes met, his lips turned into a wide smile. She was just as thirsty as he was. He moved towards her to satisfy her longing when the door opened and in marched Mukku holding a paper in her hand.

"What do you think of yourself?"

They moved apart and Anu stood up from her chair.

"Mukku... what's wrong...?"

Mukku looked at Anuj accusingly.

"This... Legal papers dissolving our partnership and making Vanraj an employee under me.."

"But wasn't this supposed to..."

"So you knew it too... I thought you would be on my side but..."

"Mukku.. we are both on your side..."

"Oh really...?"

"Mukku, I don't know why or how these papers came to you... I wanted to talk to you before I..."

"Oh come on... I know you quite well... don't tell me you are not capable of going behind my back..."

"Mukku, listen to him..."

"No... you listen to me... I took your advice and I am treating him only as my business partner. Do you know I don't even talk to him anything other than business. Vanraj is my business partner and he will remain the same... and who gave you the right to decide what I should do?"

"Mukku... you don't know how manipulative he..."

"So what? Do you really think I cannot handle men?"

"MUKKU... don't you dare..."

"And don't you dare interfere in my life... going behind my back drafting such legal documents..."

She tore the papers and threw it on the ground.

"I will not sign it..."

"MUKKU..."

She stamped and turned to leave then remembering something turned back.

"Oh... I know you went to Aarav behind my back too... don't you ever do that again... and you..."

She turned to Anu.

"I trusted you... you betrayed me... I don't want to see you again..."

With that she left. Anu looked at the torn papers on the ground and her hand clasped her mouth to stifle the sobs that now racked her body. He rushed to her and engulfed her in a hug holding her tightly until the sobs lessened. She didn't hug him back and pulled herself away.

"Anu... Mukku... she really doesn't mean... she is angry now... let me talk..."

"Don't... I know.. My baby is angry... she will come around... I know that well... but... we share the same room, Anuj and tonight... I don't feel like coming back... I want to go back to my apartment... she needs some space and so do I..."

"But, Anu..."

"Please Anuj, let me go..."

He said nothing as she turned and took her bag. Placing it on her shoulder, she left.

Outside a tall man with a short mustache smiled. They had grossly underestimated him.
