Chapter 14
Chapter 14
“Are you excited?” Geet asked crouching down and dressed Nyra into her school uniform. It was Nyra’s first day at school in the nursery.
“Will I have fwends, mama?” she inquired curiously brushing her curls back.
“I hope so. If you are kind and friendly, I’m sure you’ll make new friends” Geet answered picking up the brush and dragged it through her daughter’s curls.
“What if they don’t wike me?”
“Baby girl, everyone will love you. You’re so precious” Geet pulled her hair into two pigtails and turned Nyra to face her. Nyra beamed up at her mother and hugged her around her waist.
Geet cupped her daughter’s cheek and pressed a kiss to her forehead. “I can’t wait to hear all your stories about school” she told her ushering her out of the room and walked her downstairs.
“Is the little monkey ready?” Varun asked grinning at his niece as she bounced into the kitchen.
“Look at my new clothes, uncle Vawun” she twirled excitedly.
“You look delicious to eat” Varun said slowly and stalked towards her with purposely slow moves. Nyra squealed running away whilst Geet went to check on Amit who was gurgling and spitting bubbles in his crib.
“Are you excited to take your sister to school?” she asked lifting her son up to her and pressing kisses to his cheek. Amit giggled and opened and closed his mouth several times as if trying to talk. Geet chuckled and turned to see her brother lifting Nyra and twirled her up above his head like she was a plane.
“Okay, that’s enough. Let’s feed her then I have to set off” she reminded.
He tickled her once more and pressed a kiss to her head before settling her on the breakfast bar. Varun grabbed bowls and Geet grabbed the cereal with my free arm whilst she held Amit with the other. She grabbed the milk from the fridge whilst Varun poured cereal into the bowls. Geet grabbed the big bib and placed it around Nyra’s neck not wanting her to ruin her new clothes.
Nyra smiled and dug in.
“Baby, eat properly. Make sure you try not to make a mess”.
“Okay, mama” she answered and ate slowly and carefully.
After breakfast was finished, Geet did a final check on Nyra’s appearance. Satisfied, she clasped Nyra’s hand into hers and hustled her out the door with Amit. She settled Amit into his seater at the passenger side then buckled in Nyra.
Just as she was about to close the back door, Nyra screamed. “Papa!”
“Pepper, baby” Geet corrected and turned to see Maan in a pair of long shorts and black vest with Pepper on a lead.
Maan smiled walking over towards them and stopped by the car. “Where are you off to?”
“School” Nyra beamed. “It’s my first day. Hi Papa” she waved.
Pepper barked rising on two paws and clutching the side of the car trying to reach for her.
“Say bye, Nyra. We’re going to have to set off now” Geet intervened.
“Bye Papa” she waved. “I’ll tell you stories of my school, okay?”
Pepper barked wagging his tail.
“Pepper, move back now” Geet instructed ushering the dog back from the car and looked up at Maan. “Morning Maan” she greeted. “And bye Maan”.
He chuckled. “I’ll see you later” he waved.
Geet nodded climbing into the car and drove out passing Maan as he started his track towards the park to walk Pepper.
Geet’s eyes were glassy and sad when she dropped Nyra off to her new class. She hugged her daughter tightly and told her she’d miss her. Nyra nodded and her eyes wandered excitedly around the new class. Geet released her and Nyra kissed her cheeks yelling bye and ran inside excitedly going to the various creative stations the teacher had set up for the young children.
Geet drove over to her parent’s house wanting to see them as it had been some time that she’d seen them. Megha opened the door and gushed happily seeing Geet and pulled her inside and taking Amit from Geet’s arms.
“Why does my sweet daughter look so forlorn?” Viraj asked taking a seat beside Geet and circled his arm around her shoulders.
“Because I dropped off Nyra to nursery” she answered dully. “I miss her already and she’s going to be gone all morning”.
“Ah, those dreaded school days” he said. “I remember your mother crying when did the same for you all” he chuckled.
“Might I remind you, Mr Singhania” Megha raised her brows. “You did the crying, and I did the consoling”.
“Oh, I don’t remember that” he responded playfully. “I’m sure it was you”.
“Papa, we all know you’re just as emotional as mama. You cried when Nyra and Amit were born” she added.
“You’re supposed to side with me” he looked at his daughter.
“I love you too” she chuckled snuggling into his side and held onto him.
Geet spent the morning with her parents and left when she had to go pick up Nyra a couple of hours after. As it was her first year and being young, the school was only for 3.5 hours either in the morning or afternoon shifts. Geet had gone for the morning shifts as it would set up a routine for her and she could have her children’s nap at around the same time whilst she worked. Nyra bounced towards her and started spilling her stories about her time at nursery class and her new friends. Listening to her yapping heartily, Geet was relieved that Nyra would have no issues settling into the school.
“What shall we eat for lunch today?” Geet asked Nyra.
“Can we have shepherd’s pie?”
“Oh, okay. I’ll have to pop into the shops to pick up some mince and potatoes” she answered and turned left to go to the local grocery store.
Geet reached behind for the baby bag and rummaged inside. Once she had found baby sling and fixed it on either of her arms securely before she lifted Amit and settled him in front of her chest and securely had him snuggled up. She then opened the back door letting Nyra out of her booster and clasped her daughter’s hand.
Geet grabbed a trolley having Nyra standing in front and holding onto the bars and walked into the store. “If you want something Nyra, make sure you tell mama” she told her.
“Okay” Nyra’s eyes wandered the shelves in wonder. It wasn’t long until she pointed out the various number of things she wanted and Geet happily placed them into the trolley.
Geet noticed Maan and raised her brows to see him leaning against the fresh meats counter flirting with another woman. She shook her head and looked down at her daughter.
“Nyra…” she crouched down and whispered conspiratorially in her ear.
“Papa!”
Maan turned with a frown and his eyes widened when Nyra came bouncing towards him followed by her mother and a sleeping Amit. “Nyra” he muttered.
“You’re married?”
He returned his surprised gaze to his date tonight. “No, they are…”
“Papa I missed you” Nyra wrapped her arms around Maan’s waist grinning up at him.
“You’re disgusting” his date snarked. “Don’t you dare call me” she stalked away.
Maan looked down confused then looked at Geet who was snickering. “Nice. Thanks” he mocked and scowled.
“It was funny to see your face” she laughed. “Do you come here to shop or flirt?” she asked looking around for a basket or a trolley.
“I only came to pick up a few things for Pepper” he grumbled and looked at Nyra. “And you helped your mama?”
Nyra covered her mouth giggling. “You got scared”.
“Anyone would if a hellion like you called her Papa” he grumbled quietly.
Geet heard and swatted his shoulder.
“Okay, fine. Angel” he rolled his eyes.
“Much better” Geet said satisfied. “Now push the trolley” she instructed.
“Do I look like your servant?” he asked even though he had grabbed the handle and pushed.
“It is the least you can do, Maan. Considering that you’ve seemed to make my place your restaurant when you don’t have a date. Now that you’ve lost your date tonight, I’m assuming you’re coming over for dinner?”
“What are you cooking today?”
“We’re making shepherd’s pie” Nyra answered.
“Nice” he said approvingly.
“Why aren’t you at work?”
“I worked through the weekend, so I have today and tomorrow off as flexi” he replied.
“No wonder I didn’t see you yesterday” Geet replied placing new cereal boxes into the trolley.
“Did you miss me?” he wiggled his brows.
She arched her brows. “Just because your date has disappeared doesn’t give you the licence to flirt with me” she countered teasingly.
“Who else can I flirt with? Nyra’s much too young for me”.
Geet smacked his arm. “You’re incorrigible” she laughed. “How do you do it?” she asked moving to the freshly baked bread counters and looked through the glass.
“Do what?”
“Mama can I get this?” Nyra grabbed a box of fresh cookies. Geet nodded taking the box and placed it into the trolley and answered Maan’s question. “Like how do you even flirt in a grocery? What do you even speak about?” she chuckled.
“Never you mind” he winked.
Geet rolled her eyes and reached across the sample tray snagging a brownie handing it to Nyra and popped another in her mouth.
“I heard those are supposed to be good. I’d seen it on a food channel once” he pointed to a baked bread. “How do you pronounce that?” he peered.
“Let’s see” Geet stepped closer and said, “Pain de campagne. That’s actually French sourdough”.
“Pain de campagne” he repeated.
Geet corrected the pronunciation. “That’s it” she smiled when he said it correctly.
“You’ve got a good grasp on the pronunciations” he praised grabbing the wrapped bread and sniffing it. “It smells amazing”.
“Thanks. I learned French in school as one of the languages. I can just about make basic sentences” she smiled. “It tastes even better with soup” Geet added.
“And how do you say I’d like to take you out in French?” he leaned closer.
Geet raised her brows and smirked before she chuckled. “Oh, I see. Is that how you do it?”
He laughed. “How was my performance?”
“Very good” she nodded.
“And I did it with bread” he said placing it into the basket. “Imagine what I can do with so many possibilities here” he gestured with a wave.
“So, instead of going to a bar like a normal person, do you just come here to hunt?”
“Not just here, I take Pepper once a month to the groomers. The hot blonde… oof…”
“You’ve steeled belief that you’re such a pig”.
“I’m only kidding” he laughed and followed behind Geet.
After Geet paid for her groceries, she waited for Maan to pay for his and together they’d walked out towards her car. Maan loaded her things into the boot whilst she settled Nyra and Amit into the seats.
“I’ll see you in a bit” Maan said closing the boot and jogged over to his with the trolley and loaded his boot up with his groceries.
Geet had prepared and cooked shepherd’s pie for them. After they’d eaten, she settled Nyra in her bedroom for a nap before settling Amit into his crib downstairs.
“Aren’t you going?” she questioned noting Maan had made himself comfortable on her sofa and stretched out.
“Well, I’ve got nothing to do when I get home” he replied.
“Go do whatever you used to do then when you had days off” she waved him towards the door.
“I would’ve been doing that, but you chased away my date. I could’ve been on phone flirting with her” he shrugged.
“What about your friends?”
“They’re all at work”.
“Has anyone ever told you that you’re annoying?”
“Maybe” he winked.
Geet rolled her eyes and decided to clean up the living room of Nyra’s scattered toys.
Maan watched her silently and his eyes wandered down to her ass when she crouched down onto her knees reaching underneath the sofa.
Damn fine ass he thought and beamed when she caught him. “I’m a guy, what do you expect when you’re waving your ass around like that?”
“Like I said- you’re a pig”.
“You think I’m adorable, really” he called out as she walked past him.
“If that is what you want to believe” she returned with a cloth and a spray. She sprayed the solution on the glass coffee table and wiped it clean of her daughter’s finger marks.
Before he could say anything, a loud knock vibrated. Geet dropped the cloth quickly and hurried to the door not wanting her son to wake up.
“Wha… Rahul” she frowned.
Rahul’s eyes drifted over her shoulder at Maan who was stretched across the sofa and staring over his shoulder. “I see now why you’re not answering the phone” he gritted.
“I don’t care what you assume, what are you doing here?” she countered crossing her arms.
“Mama is going to India this week, so she wants to see Nyra and Amit. Pack their things and I’ll take them tonight”.
“No” Geet replied firmly.
“No?”
“You heard me. You do not get to make such demands” she hissed. “Out of the blue. Did you not understand my letter from my lawyer last time?”
“She’s going to India, so she wants to see them before she goes”.
“Fine, tell her to come here then. I am not going to uproot everything for you and your mother” she snapped quietly.
“Geet” Rahul stepped forward angrily.
“Back off, man” Maan appeared behind Geet and glared a warning.
“You stay out of this. She’s my wife and they’re my kids”.
“Your ex-wife” Maan reminded.
“Maan, I’m fine. Go sit” Geet encouraged gesturing him to go inside. He looked at her with concern etching his features. She nodded and he walked away sitting on the sofa and kept his eyes focused on them ready to step in if things escalated.
“I’m not going to fight over this, Geet. I want my kids today”.
“I swear down Amit, on Nyra, I will file for full custody if you don’t get lost right now” she threatened. “I am going to get my phone and give the lawyer a call to file the motion” she promised.
“Geet, it’s only for a couple of days” he hissed.
“I don’t give a damn” she raised her voice in frustration. “It is Nyra’s first week at school and I am not going to change her routine. You didn’t even ask about her first day. Did you even remember she started her school?”
He gritted his teeth. “Stop making it out like I’m the villain. You’re the bitch keeping my children away from me”.
Geet itched to smack his face, instead she pushed him back and slammed the door. “Get lost!” she called out. “You knock on this door, and you watch how fast I call the police” she warned.
Rahul glared at the door and stormed away.
Geet leaned against the door with a sigh hearing the peeling tyres and looked at Maan.
“I was watching your ass the entire time” he remarked. “It’s damn fine”.
She couldn’t help but laugh feeling the heaviness lifting from her chest. “Thanks, pig”.
“You’re welcome” he grinned.
Hope you have enjoyed the update.
