Chapter 11
Chapter 11
“Who is that yummy piece?” Nupur asked tilting up on her toes to look into the next door backyard.
Geet rolled her eyes. “It’s my neighbour”.
“He is fine with a capital F” Nupur hummed licking her bottom lip.
“Arnav, did you hear that?” Geet called out.
“What?” he stepped out and looked questioningly.
“Your wife seems to think my neighbour is fine with a capital F” she grinned.
“You’re a bitch” Nupur scowled at Geet as she sat comfortably on the garden chair cradling Amit in her arms and grinning widely.
“He’s got nothing on me” Arnav assessed.
Maan finished his call on the phone and glanced over the fence. “Maan” he introduced holding out his hand. Nupur excitedly reached across when Arnav stepped in pushing her hand away and shook Maan’s hand.
“Arnav. That’s my wife, Nupur” he pointed squeezing Maan’s hand firmly before releasing it.
“Are you done establishing your possession of her?” he laughed.
“Ignore him. He’s really a soft teddy” Nupur giggled. “Hi! I’m Geet’s best friend”.
“And she’s also the mother of my daughter” Arnav added.
Maan snickered whilst Nupur shot dagger glares at him. “Don’t worry, I shall keep my hands to myself” he informed and looked over to Geet. “How is it?”
“It” Geet gritted.
“That” he pointed.
“You are an ass, Maan!” Geet narrowed her eyes.
“What happened to the fudge? I am a fudging fudge” he grinned leaning against the fence. “Where’s the other one?”
“Seriously?”
He shrugged. “You’ve got one of those as well? Boy or girl” he asked looking at Arnav and Nupur.
“One of those?” Nupur questioned.
“He’s allergic to kids” Geet informed. “He acts as if they’re disease infested rats or something”.
“Hey, I tolerate your infested rats”.
“You’re a fudging fudge, Maan with capital Fs” Geet stared at him sternly.
He smirked seeing her irritated and looked at Nupur. “So, best friend of Geet – is she always like this?”
Nupur chuckled stepping forward and leaned against the fence. “She’s usually nicer. She can be a totally yummy if you’re nice to her”.
“I’m always nice” he grinned.
“I’m right here” Arnav announced.
“We can see that” Nupur replied though she didn’t bother turning around to look at her husband. Instead, she continued gawking at Maan. Arnav could swear he could see his wife drooling. “Also don’t call the kids, it and that” she suggested.
“Ok, got it” he grinned. “I did think of her as a yummy piece when she first moved in” he said. “From the back though. She had a hot ass in the shorts”.
“I can hear you and no you did not” Geet called out.
“My woody fudge was stood to attention, believe me. It died though when I saw the little mini you say mommy” he explained.
“You say the most flattering things” Geet rolled her eyes.
Nupur laughed. “He’s so funny” she said looking at Geet.
Geet scowled at her.
Nupur rolled her eyes and smiled sweetly at Maan. “She’s just cranky with the hormones”.
“Again, I am right here” Arnav repeated.
“We heard you” Nupur sighed. “I best get back to them” she rolled her eyes.
Maan chuckled and nodded. “I’ve got to head out anyway” he said and waved returning inside his house.
Nupur smiled dreamily and turned around. She saw her husband resting his hands on his hips glowering at her and Geet also shooting daggers with her eyes. “He’s hot. Like yummy with a capital Y” she shrugged unapologetically and joined Geet at the chair.
“You are not my friend” Geet stated.
“Nor my wife” Arnav added.
“Okay, I’ll head out to Mr Mc Yummy and see if he wants company wherever it is he’s going” she said standing up.
“Nupur!” Arnav narrowed his eyes.
She rolled her eyes at her husband and grinned sweetly at Geet who was also glaring. “Oh, cheer up, woman. He is so hot. Why didn’t you tell me you were living next to him?”
“There’s nothing hot about him. His front door is like a revolving door” Geet told her with a chuckle. “You wouldn’t believe the women that come around swearing and throwing eggs and tomatoes on his door because he stood them up on the second date”.
“Ouch” Nupur winced.
Geet nodded with a chuckle.
“Sounds like a man whore” Arnav remarked scrunching his nose.
“You can’t say that, baby. I remember your Casanova ways before I made an honest man out of you” Nupur replied.
“I did not do that” he defended himself. “I seem to remember the clothes line long boyfriends of yours as well” he added.
“Tread very carefully” Nupur scowled.
Geet laughed seeing her friends bantering about how they’d both been before marrying each other. She pondered over what it would have been like if Rahul hadn’t cheated and remained the man she’d fallen in love with. Would they have bantered and laughed over stupid jokes?
Geet’s door had been a revolving door over the previous couple of weeks with friends and relatives visiting her. She had pushed Nupur’s visit for a couple of weeks wanting her friend to attend when her house was a little quieter so they could spend a couple of hours together not just manage to exchange pleasantries. This allowed Geet to recover as well, she’d had her family attending almost everyday at different times to check in and help her with Amit and Nyra. Geet counted her blessings when they’d care for Amit for a couple of hours so she could get her much needed sleep. Amit was a little more difficult than how Nyra was when she was a baby. Amit only slept a couple of hours during the night before he’d squark awake and stay awake until it was close to dawn. Geet barely managed to catch an hour after until Nyra woke up and came bouncing into her room wanting breakfast.
Geet had gotten into the habit of sleeping when Amit would sleep, she had even started getting Nyra napping with her to ensure that her daughter wasn’t going around and causing trouble especially when she was alone with them both.
“What did you say?” Geet snapped out of her wandering thoughts hearing her name being called by Nupur.
“I asked if ass face came to see the kids since the hospital visit” Nupur repeated.
“A couple of times, he’d popped by for a few minutes then walked out frustrated seeing my relatives or family friends visiting me and the kids” she replied. “Varun got pissed once and wanted to go after him to teach him a lesson…” she sighed.
“You stopped him, I guess?” Arnav inquired.
“Of course. I don’t want my brother damaging his hands punching out Rahul. Not to forget that Nyra was present and very much loves him. I wouldn’t put it past Rahul not to call the police and make everything about him” she responded.
“Well, he would have deserved it” Nupur stated. “Let me punch some sense into him, I’m sure he wouldn’t call the police and tell them a girl assaulted him”.
“No, thank you. We don’t need any problems with him right now. I’m juggling a number of things; I don’t need Rahul in the mix as well” she answered shaking her head.
“Harsh mentioned that Varun and Tara broke up” Arnav inquired changing the subject.
Geet hummed nodding her head. “Varun wanted to marry her, but she’s not ready. She told him she doesn’t think she’d ever be ready and wants to focus on her work”.
“Oof…” Nupur squinted. “Was it a bad breakup?”
“Not bad per se at the beginning. They’d agreed to call it quits, there was some tears and sadness, but Tara apparently thought the way to get over him was to get under someone else. Varun went to their apartment to grab some clothes and found them” she winced.
“Wow, f*ck…” Arnav muttered. “No wonder he’s being an ass at work”.
Geet shrugged. “He’s hinted at moving in with for a little while. He says its to get out of our parents, so he didn’t have to deal with their craziness. I think its more to keep an eye out for me” she explained.
“That wouldn’t necessarily be a bad thing” Nupur stated.
“I wouldn’t have minded, but since I had Amit. They’re watching out for like the other shoe to drop and me to cry and breakdown” she rolled her eyes. “I’m grateful they’ve been coming and checking in on me, giving me time to rest but I know part of the reason is they think I’m going to crash and burn out”.
Nupur laughed. “Well, its hard being a single mother of one. But you’ve got two of them now”.
“I know” she scrubbed a hand over her face. “It is hard”.
“Maybe let Varun stay for weekends, this way you can have a break and rest. He’s off work then as well?” Arnav suggested.
“I’ll think about it” Geet agreed. She would have to consider the pros and cons of having her brother moving in, even if its for the weekends.
